Season 15 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills could have been newbie Amanda Frances’ time to shine. Instead, she has been feuding with Dorit Kemsley and feeling misunderstood by the group. Thankfully, Kyle Richards and Erika Jayne understood that Amanda was trying to find her place in the group.
However, Amanda’s inability to manifest friendly vibes with the rest of her co-stars led to rumors that Amanda allegedly quit filming. And then departed RHOBH. Naturally, Amanda quickly shot down the rumors via social media, insisting, “lol this is not true.” Still, Amanda remained tight-lipped about her cult ties.
Amanda Frances was “cut off from people” while in a cult
Once Dorit brought up that Amanda had ties to a cult, the RHOBH ladies were obsessed. However, Amanda repeatedly promised details … at a later time. During RHOBH Season 15 Episode 10, Erika finally asked Amanda for the scoop.
According to Amanda, she was involved in a Christian youth group in high school. When a man involved in that group started his own church in Florida, Amanda followed. “But the longer I was there, the more controlling things got. So, he like tells people who to marry, who to date, who to be friends with,” Amanda told Erika.
When a producer asked if Amanda felt “like the church was trying to isolate you from your family,” Amanda replied, “Absolutely. My whole agenda became not to get in trouble, not be called into the pastor’s office ….”
She continued, “Before you know it, you’re isolated. You’re controlled. You’re cut off from people. Well, you’re giving money to the church.” After a year and a half, Amanda stated that she began to “think for myself. Call home.” She added, “I eventually just had to get the balls to leave.” So, on October 31, 2008, Amanda drove to her sister’s home and left the group.
Finally, Amanda realized that she wanted more from her life. “I’m going to make my own money, and I’m going to help people,” she stated.
