Bearing in mind the disastrous fires in Los Angeles, Kim Kardashian demanded higher pay for incarcerated firefighters working laboriously to contain the flames. In a series of Instagram Stories, Kardashian first thanked all the first responders working with the Ventura Training Center, which trains incarcerated individuals to become firefighters for the community. She praised those spearheading the efforts to contain the fires and those risking their lives at the forefront.

The businesswoman then urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to “raise the incarcerated firefighters pay,” claiming, “They get paid almost nothing.” She highlighted how these incarcerated firefighters have risked their lives and worked endless hours to save lives and the community.

Kim Kardashian urged for better pay for incarcerated firefighters working on the frontlines to contain the LA fires. Kardashian requested California Governor Gavin Newsom to increase the wages of these individuals from “$1/ hour” to a rate honoring “a human being risking their life to save our lives and homes.” She called attention to the first responders risking their lives with pay that hasn’t been raised since 1984 even “with inflation” or “when fires got worse and many died.” The SKIMS founder appealed to Newsom to do “what no Governor has done in 4 decades.”

In her since-deleted Instagram Stories, Kardashian underlined that hundreds of incarcerated firefighters continue to risk their lives. She continued, “They are on the Palisades fire and the Eaton fire in Pasadena working 24 hour shifts.” Lastly, the reality star wrote how they “get paid almost nothing” to “risk their lives.” In addition, she pointed out that many even died “to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders,” concluding by calling them “heroes.”

Furthermore, Kim Kardashian commended the Ventura Training Center and the incarcerated firefighters for their efforts. She then explained that these incarcerated individuals have returned home and now wish to continue serving the community as firefighters. In return for their fire services, they “can now get their sentences reduced, expunging the felonies from their records.” The socialite brought to attention how this can subsequently help them get “six figure jobs working for the fire department.”

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection shows the Palisades and Eaton fires have burned over 37,000 acres. At least 10 people have died in these devastating fires that sparked on Tuesday and burned for several days.
