Shannon Beador Admits That Her Jamaica Breakdown Was “Very Difficult To Watch”
Most of the time, a Real Housewife freakout provides the fandom with some premium content, but could that be said about Shannon Beador’s meltdown during the last episode of Real Housewives of Orange County? That’s debatable.
It was like that age old car crash metaphor. I didn’t want to watch her unravel, yet I couldn’t look away. It was pretty uncomfortable to watch her fight with every single cast member and rip off her microphone as if the whole group was against her. With that said, I can’t imagine how Shannon felt watching that and reliving the drama months later.
As expected, Shannon’s Bravo blog post about the episode was very brief. I don’t blame her for not wanting to discuss this or possibly struggling to find the right words in her own defense.

Shannon wrote, “This is a very difficult episode for me to watch. First, to re-live the pain I was going through at the time in a fairly new separation, but also to hear what my friends were saying behind my back.” Surprisingly enough she didn’t call out any of her costars specifically, but she does plan to.
Shannon shared, “I have so many things to say, but at this time I don’t want to dive into it. We are filming our reunion this week, and I intend to address it there.” That’s definitely going to take up a big chunk of the reunion. The meltdown involved every single cast member. Not only that, but not much else happened this season other than the double dates fiasco.
Nevertheless, Shannon remained hopeful: “It can only get better from here. Until next week…” How is she going to rebound from thos histrionics?

Survivor‘s Natalie Cole might be a lot of things, but one thing she is not is uninteresting.

Natalie Cole wasn’t long for this game, but man was she a hoot-and-a-half to watch. In fairness, she was given perhaps the most uphill battle of anyone on this cast, given the fact that she is by far the oldest contest this season, nine years older than the next closest in age (that would be Mike White). But she quickly showed that age wasn’t the only thing that was going to set her apart. Her abrasive, brash demeanor was instantly noticed by her Goliath tribe mates, and she became a target not because of how good a player she was, but because some of the others simply could not stand her.
Natalie would give orders around camp, and did not seem to have many personal connections. She did survive her first Tribal Council, when Jeremy Crawford was voted out after attempting to help Natalie understand how she was being perceived by others. And despite finding herself on the majority of her tribe after the swap, Natalie was ultimately voted out seemingly because Mike just could not go on one more day with her in the game.
She’s definitely been the most polarizing player so far this season, with some loving her as a character or admiring her no-holds-barred approach to life, while others have despised her and were jumping up and down last night when she was sent packing. Natalie left the game with her pride intact (and with her jacket) and I had the chance to speak with her today on the FilmSurvivor Podcast (the full audio of which you can find and download at the bottom of this article). Here are some highlights from the interview:
NATALIE COLE INTERVIEW
On all the things that were said about her on the show, and which ones she thinks are true and/or untrue:
Natalie Cole: I don’t believe I can attempt to fully unwrap the very powerful narrative that’s been told. And that narrative was very clear to me from the preview forward, that I was a Goliath…my singular verbal influence can’t change what has been told. So I can’t say that something is accurate, you know, some of the stuff that you saw or things that you said, I did say at one time or another. The key is, when did I really say that and what was it about? And also I know this. I felt like I was under attack, in fact, I know that I was. I was verbally abused and belittled the entire time from Jeremy. So I was in defensive mode. I felt like an abused woman and I was protecting myself, and in doing so I became further isolated and then ostracized…with the hand I had been dealt, I thought I had played it fairly well.
On whether or not her age played into her not fitting in at camp:
Natalie: That didn’t factor in for me, I did expect [the cast] to be younger. It’s always been younger…so I wasn’t surprised by that.
On if there were any surprises as to how she was portrayed or what she saw on TV:
Natalie: Well event the order of Tribal Council last night, it rolled a little differently, so I was surprised by that. And it was more traumatic at Tribal then what was shown. Even though I wasn’t blindsided, just the way they went about it…what was very, very surprising is that I could have been shown as a heroic character in a number of regards, and not any of that got shown. So how it’s edited, at the end of day, was surprising to me. It was the negative moments that I had, amplified.

Kelly Dodd Thinks Shannon Was “Playing The Victim” During The Cast Fight In Jamaica
Who thought that Kelly Dodd would become the voice of reason on Real Housewives of Orange County? No one thought that while watching her first season on the show, but that is who she has become. Well, she’s a voice of reason with occasional outbursts and scathing insults, but I’m going to chalk it up to her being a well-balanced person. She gives us variety! Most importantly, she is the only one who has provided us with consistent entertainment for the last two seasons of this show.
During the last episode, everything was about Shannon Beador. According to Tamra Judge, Shannon normally loves it when it’s all about her, but it’s obvious that she loved nothing about the Jamaica trip up to this point. Shannon argued with every single cast member, ripped off her mic pack, and skipped out on the group bobsledding. On top of that, she was stuck in a villa with no air conditioning. The trip had to be downright miserable for Shannon, but is she the true victim in all this? She is in her head, at least.
In a Bravo blog post, Kelly declared, “Someone call the psych ward, because Shannon’s Jamaican’ me crazy!” Same here, Kelly. Normally it’s entertaining to watch a Real Housewife go off the rails, but watching Shannon screaming at her closest friends who were just trying to help her was pretty uncomfortable.
Kelly wrote, “As I’ve said before, I see both sides with Gina [Kirschenheiter] and Shannon. I like how Gina let Shannon know how she feels in such a direct way. She’s no bullsh–, just like me. But Shannon doesn’t take confrontation well. Instead of apologizing for hurting Gina’s feelings, she started playing the victim. It’s the Shannon switcheroo!” Playing the victim has truly become a #TotalShannonMove.
Kelly explained, “The truth is nobody was out to get her. If I had been in her position and Gina confronted me, I would have said, “I’m sorry! I had no idea. Let’s hang out tonight and have fun then!” That’s all it needed to be.” If only it was that simple.
She continued, “Gina’s comments about Tamra and Shannon’s friendship were just her repeating what Tamra has been saying. Tamra said it to Shannon too! None of this should have come as a big surprise. In fact, I think Tamra repeats it so much, because it’s the only way to get Shannon to really listen.” Clearly, that strategy did not work, but then again, it seems like pretty much no strategy would be effective in this situation.
Kelly admitted, “It breaks my heart to see her so sad, and to know she is feeling cornered and attacked. But then on the other hand, I don’t see what the big deal is, so she can come off like a spoiled brat, who runs off whenever she doesn’t get her way. I’ll always be there for Shannon, and I’ll do what I can to defuse the situation whenever possible, but the tantrums are beyond exhausting. Without breaking the fourth wall too much, I also think the producers deserve a little more respect.” Once again, we have Kelly as the voice of reason. This was far from a good look for Shannon. She definitely could have handled this situation better.

Kelly wrote, “It’s a touchy subject to bring up somebody’s emotional problems, but I can’t help feeling like there is a deeper issue with Shannon that needs to be addressed. Depression? Paranoia? Rage? Victim-playing? Her levels are off the charts! Someone loosen this woman’s ponytail!” Oh that high ponytail. Shannon sure does love a high ponytail these days.
Kelly clarified, “Let me say this: I’m not saying or implying that Shannon is crazy. Life is crazy! What I have witnessed has given me concern. There’s no shame in seeking treatment. It’s up to everybody to find their own solutions and figure out what works for them. Maybe after this conversation, Shannon will take steps to deal with her emotional pain so she doesn’t take it out on other people. I don’t know what it will take for her to believe we were trying to help. In the meantime, there was nothing we could do to calm her down.”
Yelling at Shannon to take medication while she’s already yelling at other people hardly constitutes a “conversation,” but hopefully Shannon is in a better place after that shit show of an episode. As someone who is a complete outsider to this group, it was just so vicariously exhausting. I’m all for the drama, but Shannon refusing to listen is just too much to deal with- even from the comfort of my own couch at home.

Total Divas Recap: Birthday Celebrations, Naked Sushi and a Sexy Dance Off
Welcome to Miami! Time to leave the ring behind and celebrate Nattie and Nia’s birthdays as the ladies take a trip to Florida on Total Divas. Nia, who wants to next in new home rather than travel even more, reluctantly decides to go along and have some fun.
Meet Brandon, the 21-year-old Miami bartender who is hired to serve the girls alcohol whenever they want. Ready to party is Nicole, Brie, Paige, Nattie, Nia and Lana — who always seems ready to party. While the girls relax on the deck of their hotel room, the paparazzi are starting to line up around the hotel for pix of Nicole, fresh from her breakup from John Cena. Nicole is visibly uncomfortable and annoyed.
Each of the ladies has something special lined up for the birthday girls, except Brie who tells Nicole that she never told her about the surprises. Lana kicks it off with a ride to dinner in a Lamborghini. At the restaurant, Paige has surprised everyone with “naked sushi,” a naked man lying on a table covered with sushi. The girls are taken back and, well, extremely uncomfortable. Nattie tries one piece of sushi off the good-looking stud, but the girls decide to forego the sweaty food and eat at the table.
The divas head back to the hotel and Nattie decides it’s time for a prank. Lana is woken up by a whipped cream and champagne dousing. Vowing revenge, Lana surprises Nattie with a champagne soaking of her own. It’s all in good fun.
It’s day two and Nia talks about being on the road so much and missing her family, especially her mother, who she has a very close bond with.
Nicole presents her surprise which is a dance-off competition choreographed by professional dancers Brinn Nicole and Dancing With the Stars’ Sharna Burgess. The ladies divide into teams of Nia, Lana and Page versus Nattie, Nicole and Brie. They learn their dances and will present them at a club. Nia throws a shot back and tells the ladies that she is definitely not a dancer, so this is out of her comfort zone.
More paparazzi surround the hotel. “I never thought people would care,” said Nicole. She jokingly flirts with Brandon so that the paparazzi have something to take pictures of.
Brie, who felt left out, surprises Nia and Nattie with tear-jerky visits from their mothers. Nia starts crying. “You’re so pretty mom,” said Nia.
It’s time for the dance-off and, hands down, it’s won by Nia, Lana and Paige. Nia absolutely rocked that performance and her confidence is amazing. The ladies continue dancing and drinking. Nia tells the girls that it was seriously the best birthday ever.

Scheana Marie Says She Was Drake’s Favorite Server At Villa Blanca
Thanks to Vanderpump Rules, the employees at SUR, Villa Blanca, Pump, and Tom Tom are the famous faces bringing in the tourists.
Even so, there are plenty of celebrities that dine at those restaurants. Scheana Marie shared an anecdote about one of her favorite customers back when she worked at Villa Blanca: Drake. Yes, that Drake.
During an episode of her podcast Scheanananigans, Scheana revealed, “He used to come into Villa Blanca all the time.” If only this happened while the Bravo cameras were present.

Scheana claimed, “I was the only server that he liked to serve him. He would come in, give me a hug, knew my name, always ordered a chopped salad ‘no this and add this in.’” Again, I really wish that this was captured by some reality TV cameras. If only there was some archived security camera footage.
The story gets even better though. Scheana said, “At the time, I was like engaged so I couldn’t just pass my number on. I was like, ‘But honey, what if Drake wants to put me on the hook of his song? It’s just business and he was like ‘No!’” Just imagine how entertaining it would be to watch Scheana and Mike Shay in an argument over some hypothetical Drake song.
Scheana joked, “So missed opportunity. Drake if you’re listening….”
Drake, if you’re reading this, it’s NOT too late. Yes, I had to throw in that reference.

Real Housewives Of Dallas Recap: Mama Bears
Y’all, I love Real Housewives Of Dallas! And you know what I love even more? A Mama Dee takeover of Real Housewives Of Dallas. Smother those bitches in 6,000 calories worth of butter and ketchup, get them too stuffed to move, then berate them with a frozen smile. You know the reason Mama Dee’s face doesn’t move is because she isn’t about to let anybody see her sweat.
D’Andra Simmons is living a life of hard nights and harder mornings when she has to face the realities that her friendship with LeeAnne Locken has gone to complete shit. Even worse, despite their fight at Cary Deuber‘s laser thingy, D’Andra’s mama has organized a playdate to force them to get along. And even worse-worse, they have to cook at this thing! Needless to say with all this stress D’Andra isn’t looking so fresh and bright-eyed during her Hard Night Good Morning rebranding photoshoot.
Across town, Brandi Redmond meets Travis at a jewelry store to pick out a re-wedding right for Stephanie Hollman. It turns out Brandi has actually known Travis longer than she’s known Stephanie, and Brandi was the one who helped pick out Stephanie’s engagement ring. I think this is adorable!
Anyway, Brandi arrives in shoes that don’t match her pants with a baby still wearing pajamas, but at least her hairs are straight all the way around this time! I love Travis. I really do. I mean, he wanders the store holding a baby like a pro, then casually drops $41,000 on a ring for his wife. I’d emotionally manipulate him with my needy whining and co-dependence in order to keep him too, Stephanie!
Stephanie and Travis are renewing their vows after 10 years of marriage because Stephanie wants to do it while she’s still young enough to squeeze into her original wedding gown, and also before she has so many wrinkles she looks either like a Shar Pei or squeezed tight as a lemon ala Mama Dee. It’s also insurance that Travis still loves her before he leaves her alone for a month to do his Harvard business school. After all, Stephanie is depressed – especially when she’s forced to be on her own with the kids! I hear you, but hire a nanny, girl, you’re rich! I mean if Brandi can do it, you can!
Across town, Kameron Westcott hosts an event for the opening of some boutique which involves shopping for charity. Gosh, do these ladies work SOOOOOO hard to do good for the world! Wow. I am just in awe of their selfless dedication to those in need. Most in need of help is LeeAnne who is enraged that D’Andra twisted her words and is now claiming LeeAnne called her an alcoholic. LeeAnne insists to Kameron and Cary that she never said that (she just implied it) – after all everyone knows it’s BRANDI who is the real alcoholic. Which LeeAnne did actually say, much to Cary’s dismay.
LeeAnne defends her word choice by blaming Brandi and D’Andra for bullying her over her wedding. She is being pushed and pushed and pushed which gives her PTSD flashbacks (aka crocodile tears) of having her head shoved in a locker in high school. Which totally messed up her giant 80’s hair, y’all! THE TRAUMA of Aqua Net running out after recess. LeeAnne – just stop. You originally started all this by blabbing D’Andra’s finances to Cary.
LeeAnne is also back to making ‘death threats’ when she asserts that if Brandi and D’Andra keep pushing her someone will get killed… and it ain’t gonna be the carny with access to dissociative evil hands! Happy Halloween! Love Bravo. So, I guess LeeAnne’s amygdala abandoned her too?
D’Andra Believes LeeAnne Plotted To Attack Her With Alcohol Abuse Allegations!
Kameron nods her slow nod, blinks her vapid Barbie eyes, and agrees that if you keep poking the bear the bear will bite and bear bites are like NOT the accessory of the season even if the scars eventually turn pink. Just, no, girl; bad idea, girl or Kameron will have to tattle to her mother-in-law!
So after that lovely message Cary goes home, takes a loooong cleansing shower, and marvels at LeeAnne being the victim not of bullying, but karma! She has had a lot of things to say about everyone else’s relationships over the years and now the shoe is on the other foot! Obviously, that gave Cary the idea that it is the perfect time to plan a cast trip to Copenhagen to reconnect with her long-lost relatives and hopefully grow closer to her parents, but at the same time bring all her friends back together again! Yeah, I think this trip will go swell.
Now for the literal meat and potatoes of this episode! D’Andra, dragging her feet and sulking like the teenager she will always emotionally be in Mama Dee’s presence, arrives at Dee’s best friend Marian’s house for cooking lessons. All of the cooking involves bacon – seriously it was just hanging everywhere like curtains!
The irony is not lost on D’Andra that they are at Marian’s, not Dee’s – this is part of the lesson. Marian and Dee have weathered 40 years of friendship and only one of them looks like a 75-year-old woman. The purported end goal here is to feed the husbands so Jeremy is there, along with Rich and Court, plus Kameron brought a surprise guest – her mother in law, Jimmy! Jimmy needs to call Dee’s plastic surgeon in the future cause that eye job… For a grande dam of Dallas society, I don’t know – has she heard of Dr. Marc Deuber?!
Dee, being old-fashioned, still believes the way to a man’s heart is through his clogged arteries so he kicks the bucket faster and makes you the beneficiary of his will. Errrr, I mean his stomach. LeeAnne begs to differ: she illustrates with an ever-so-classy gesture that the way to a man’s heart is through fellatio. “It’s always worked for me!” she smirks. Clearly not since it’s taken her 9+ years to get Rich down the aisle… Stay Classy, LeeAnne – all eyes of Dallas society are watching and judging… Oh, wait. They only do that to D’Andra. But seriously – what’s the way to a friends heart? Hello – it’s WINE!
The actual purpose of this little gathering is to promote the diversity of ketchup, the wonder food, and for Dee to assess D’Andra and LeeAnne’s damaged relationship and bring them back together again. Bitchy-Dumpty had a great fall… I assume Kameron was there so it didn’t look so obvious?
Dee starts out strong by shading D’Andra for always having weight problems because she couldn’t control herself around Dee’s amazing cooking, then handing D’Andra a Queen Bee apron while LeeAnne shot chopping knives out of her eyeballs and visibly stopped herself from ripping it off D’Andra’s neck. The second Dee’s back is turned LeeAnne and D’Andra start arguing over whether or not LeeAnne called D’Andra an alcoholic and how drunk Brandi was at LeeAnne’s No-Tie charity event. Was she swaying in the breeze cause she was three-sheets to the wind, or were her heels too big because they belonged to D’Andra? And more importantly was D’Andra also drunk?! Word on the Highland Park streets is YES and also LeeAnne placed an ad in the Highland Park Bulletin advertising D’Andra’s naughty behavior and offered the reward of a meditation session for anyone who could catch D’Andra acting inappropriately in the future! I love how these two are literally behaving like children at Thanksgiving.
Now D’Andra is certainly twisting LeeAnne’s words. What she’s really guzzling is a taste of her own medicine. I mean, D’Andra knows LeeAnne well enough to predict that if she started questioning LeeAnne and Rich’s relationship LeeAnne was going to grow claws underneath her acrylics and use her hair extensions as a lasso to yank D’Andra right down to the ground underneath the carnie trailers where having a Simmons name can’t save you from shame.
After they all praise ketchup for rejuvenating dry meatloaf everywhere Dee pulls LeeAnne aside for a tet-at-tet. LeeAnne basically informs her that Brandi is a bad influence and around her, D’Andra does too much partying. Dee is sage and wise, and reminds LeeAnne that it’s her duty not to double-cross D’Andra or she’ll face Dee’s wrath! OK well, Dee never said that explicitly, but it was heavily implied in society speak!
Meanwhile across the vast house Jimmy and Kameron sit D’Andra down for a little chat about her behavior because word is getting around that she has turned crass and vulgar; arriving drunk at charity events, then taking the needy home with her and playing k-cup games with them. Jimmy straight up lectures D’Andra, like a child, that if she doesn’t pull it together and stop making herself the subject of gossip, Kameron won’t be allowed to come over and play anymore. Mmmkay, girl, here is the thing, girl: LEEANNE just made a blowjob gesture on TV, but Jimmy full-on condones her friendship with Kameron! Jimmy also warned D’Andra to stay focus on her “real friends” aka LeeAnne instead of trashy newbies like Brandi, but how is LeeAnne even remotely acceptable or appropriate? Furthermore, how would Jimmy even know who Brandi is? Well, she probably hate-watches this show to make notes on Kam’s every misstep, then inform her of how she can improve in the future.
Second of all, how in the hell would anyone even know D’Andra is misbehaving if it weren’t for Kameron and LeeAnne spreading it around Dallas society!? Aren’t they the only who ones who have so-far witnessed these so-called infractions given that the episodes haven’t aired? D’Andra isn’t exactly toting Brandi to premiere galas! Also, why is Jimmy worried about what D’Andra is doing – other than wanting to protect her friend Dee, maybe?
Thirdly, when did Brandi get so much power? It’s kind of amusing actually how they’re all so threatened by her!
D’Andra says she doesn’t care what people think about her because she’s 50 years old and has had it with being ‘The Perfect Simmons’. Obviously, she’s lying, and this has touched a nerve. LeeAnne smirks that D’Andra better not cross Jimmy who wields incredible power on the Dallas scene, but I’m not putting much faith in Jimmy’s judgment if she thinks LeeAnne is ap-pro-pri-ate company! I guess the truth hurts that LeeAnne is held to a different standard, though. She is essentially ‘The Help’ to these women, and don’t think LeeAnne isn’t well-aware. Imagine if D’Andra ripped her belt off and smashed a table with it?! Jimmy would have the vapors for life!
When they finally get to eat, D’Andra says not two words to Kameron and LeeAnne at the table, even after Mama Dee makes a pointed speech about the importance of maintaining friendships.
Finally, everyone reunites to celebrate Jeremy having one of his award-winning military photographs turned into a wall art mural in downtown Dallas. This is so cool! I love seeing Jeremy as something other than D’Andra’s less-than gold digger husband and I think it is sweet that he and Rich are maintaining their friendship despite whatever is going on between LeeAnne and D’Andra. Speaking of, D’Andra invited LeeAnne hoping they could start getting back on the right track but LeeAnne blew her off to attend a fashion show. Rich was there though.
Poor Kameron, there she was thinking she had done a good deed by having Jimmy warn D’Andra about her reputation being in tatters, but instead D’Andra is pissed. During the party pulls Kam aside to let her know that she’s hurt and was blindsided by that little talk during the cooking lessons. In the only emotion Kameron has ever displayed, she vehemently defends her mother-in-law as being benevolent and insists D’Andra has no right to twist their public service announcement into a negative. Then Kameron storms out! D’Andra is speechless. She was just expressing her feelings, but everything D’Andra does is wrong these days. Duh!
Cary intercepts her Kameron in the parking lot, and a seething Kam calls D’Andra a “crazy bitch” for insulting Jimmy. Inside Dee warns D’Andra that once and for all she needs to get over what people think of her because the only person who’s opinion matters is Dee!
Dang, does Kameron fear her mother-in-law or what?! That was shocking!
TELL US – WERE JIMMY AND KAMERON OUT OF LINE WARNING D’ANDRA? IS LEEANNE GOING TOO FAR?

NeNe Leakes Discusses Impact Of Husband Gregg Leakes’ Cancer Diagnosis On Their Lives
Ever since the first season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, NeNe Leakes has been very open about the ups and downs in her life. This goes beyond the drama with her costars. Nowadays, NeNe and her family are dealing with something much more difficult following her husband Gregg Leakes’ cancer diagnosis.
The Atlanta Housewife shared this quote on Instagram: “Cancer has changed our lives but God.” Along with the quote, NeNe shared even more of her personal thoughts.
She began, “CANCER! I know many of you can relate and understand! This word will never be easy to hear for me! It changed my life in so many ways. You change as a person — from the way you think to the way you eat! My marriage changed tremendously!”

NeNe admitted, “The way i look at people around me and my approach for my family future.”

Unfortunately, many people can relate to what the Leakes family is going through. Fortunately, they’re not alone in these feelings and there are probably a lot of people who can relate to NeNe’s post.

Survivor: David vs. Goliath Episode 5 Recap: Baby It’s Cold Outside
Man that was cold! Like, I’m not going to try to steal your jacket or anything, but there was definitely a chill in the air during this week’s episode of Survivor, and I’m not talking about the cyclone winds that led to the second-ever island evacuation during the game (for those keeping track, the first one occurred during Season 33, Millennials vs. Gen-X).
As I do at the beginning of every Recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s Episode 5 of Survivor: David vs. Goliath, so if you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! It’s important to add too that while we WILL hit on all of the important developments of the episode, this is not a linear “blow-by-blow” recap, and is more of a discussion and reaction of what we just witnessed together.

So much to get to, where to even begin this week? I sort of have to start with Natalie, right? We all knew that Natalie’s torch was going to get snuffed at some point this season, and it finally happened during Episode 5. Ironic, that Natalie was still able to give the cold shoulder AND keep her jacket. All this nonsense tonight about a jacket! Never have I seen such a thing, and talk about the giant-sized balls on Angelina. Being in the midst of a game as brutal as Survivor does take a toll on a person, and I think that Angelina would agree that she was a little too centered-in on her own personal comfort, rather than being cued in on the game’s big picture. I mean, easy for me to say from the comfort of my couch with a blanket over my feet, but to make jackets such a big part of the game is definitely unprecedented, and agreeing with Nick, for sure was going a bit too far. It’s one thing for her to casually mention or joke about wanting another person’s personal possessions, but Angelina was serious…she would have done anything for a frickin’ jacket. Whether Nick’s, or Lyrsa‘s, or Natalie’s, Angelina just wanted a jacket, and was willing to potentially steal to get it. Not only is that not cool (no pun intended), but it just crosses a line, in a game known for its unethical (lying, etc.) tactics.
With Mike living up to his constant “I can’t go on with Natalie” rhetoric, we have now seen two straight Goliath’s leave the game, both ousted by the actions of just one other Goliath and not unanimously. As Angelina stated during the ep, we now are evened up at 7-7 when it comes to Davids vs. Goliaths, which seemed impossible just a few short weeks ago, when the Goliaths drew the majority 3-2 count on each of the three newly-formed tribes. There definitely seems to be much more dissension among the Goliaths, and as we see in the preview for next week (with Alison eyeing a blindside of Dan), it looks like this season might just play out the same way it did in the story’s source material (that would be the Bible for those wondering).
Natalie, of course, was great television, and Survivor always seems to have at least one character like her…in the sense that there is always a pre-merge personality who brings some drama and entertainment value but usually doesn’t last all too long. If I’ve ever been intimidated going into an exit interview (coming Thursday!), this is the one. I don’t feel too bad after seeing even Jeff tiptoe around her during Tribal Council. Natalie, like the cyclone that hit the island, is a force of nature that seemingly has the power to destroy whatever is in her path.
Speaking of that storm, that was something else, huh? As I mentioned, this is only the second time in Survivor history that the weather conditions were so bad, that it led to Probst actually evacuating the islands during the game. I guess that’s the gamble you take when filming in Fiji during the stormy season. My question though, that I subtly picked up on during the episode, was that the storm was shown as hitting on Day 12…the next glimpse we got of the tribe was at the Reward Challenge, where it was mentioned that it was Day 14. Does that imply that they were off-island for almost two whole days? That’s sort of a big deal. Like, did they all get to sleep in beds? Communicate with each other during this time? Eat real food? I can’t wait to find out.
With the whole “jacket-gate” situation, a lot of other big developments were over-shadowed. Dan found his second hidden Idol, that son-of-a-gun. We got to hear Alec‘s explanation of his seemingly bone-headed blindside of Natalia last week, which led to Kara pretty much turning on him (as was expected). Davie made me laugh out loud once again, with his “KBC” (Kentucky Boiled Chicken) reference. And we got a lot more of Natalie, with her fighting over eggs, and telling Jeff Probst at Tribal that she is “never the center of drama” in her real life, nor does she accept his observation that she always needs to have the last word.
Back to Angelina for a second: Just wow. I keep re-watching her ask Natalie for her jacket, right after Natalie’s game was ended. While it was funny, and a bit uncomfortable to watch, it also was important: Angelina just showed her tribe that above all, Angelina is concerned most with Angelina. I mean, having your dreams of winning Survivor ruined is a pretty terrible moment, and hearing Jeff tell you to “bring me your torch” can be soul-crushing. Disregarding all of that, Angelina thought it would be a good idea to ask Natalie for her jacket? And what was that hug for, one last attempt to pull some body-heat off of her? The tone-deafness and lack of tact in that situation will most definitely come back to haunt Angelina, just you wait. You think you’re cold now? Just wait until that torch gets snuffed!
Episode Take-Away: Another solid episode, and for what was a fairly predictable outcome it sure made for good television. Things are coming together nicely if you’re like me, and don’t like watching one majority alliance slowly crush the other side. We’re now at even numbers and there are a lot of interesting inter-tribe dynamics at play so far. If there was anything negative about this week’s episode, it was that I wasn’t given my weekly dose of Nerd-mance, as there were no direct interactions between Christian and Gabby (come on CBS!). But I did get to hear the word “bro-chacho” about four or five times, which I guess is fair compensation. And as to if Mike made the right decision tonight in voting out Natalie, I know I gave Alec a lot of grief last week for basically doing the same thing. But the way Mike handled it was so much more appropriate…there was no whispering, no waffling, at Tribal. Whether or not it was a good game move for Mike remains to be seen, but if you consider Mike’s strong alliance with Nick (I refuse to mention the alliance’s name), and the fact that most of the other Goliaths will understand a Natalie vote-out over a vote-out of pretty much every other Goliath member, well, I think Mike made a good decision. He has options at this point, or I guess you can say, unlike Natalie, he didn’t put all his eggs in one basket (Aaah, it feels good to get that pun off my chest, as I’ve been waiting all night to get that one out of my system).
