Does Real Housewives of Dubai have anywhere to go from here? Bravo has stopped the show in its tracks. Its fate is almost entirely up in the air, but things aren’t looking good.
RHODubai was always a bit of a gamble on Bravo’s part. From its announcement, the show faced criticism. The Housewives franchises are arguably feminist media. Moreover, Bravo properties generally hold a special place in the hearts of LGBTQ+ viewers. As such, fans criticized the very premise of RHODubai.
Why would Bravo set a flagship franchise in a location with observable human rights issues? Unfortunately, it would seem the network’s gamble did not pay off. The Season 2 reunion went out with a fizzle rather than a bang in viewership. And at this point, a potential cast shakeup won’t be enough.
Bravo puts RHODubai on pause amid low ratings
On November 7, Us Weekly reported that RHODubai was officially “on pause.” An insider told the outlet, “The cast was told a couple days ago.” As of right now, that’s about all there is to know. Us Weekly reached out to Bravo for comment with no response as of yet.
Those who have kept a close eye on RHODubai might have seen this coming. According to TV Deets, Season 1 performed moderately well with an average of 590,000 live viewers per episode. Unfortunately, Season 2 suffered a huge dip with about 291,000 average viewers per episode. Now, if the show is taking a hiatus, it probably means Peacock viewership isn’t much either.
We can compare Dubai to a show like Real Housewives of New York. As TV Deets reports, the Season 14 reboot averaged 506,000 viewers – even less than Dubai’s first season. However, Bravo reported that RHONY performed very well on Peacock. That said, RHONY Season 15 is currently performing more in line with RHODubai Season 2, which isn’t a great sign, even with Peacock.
Along with Dubai, Bravo recently announced pauses for Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard and Winter House. Still, a pause doesn’t mean the end. Dubai very well could come back down the line. But as it stands, fans perhaps shouldn’t get their hopes up.
Real Housewives of Dubai is streaming on Peacock.
