Kate Chastain Dishes On The Below Deck Cast, The Allure Of Ben Robinson, & Bobby Giancola “Behaving Like A Vanderpump Rules Cast Member”

 

Whether you love watching Kate Chastain on Below Deck or you can’t stand her, you have to admit that she’s interesting. Kate always has a lot to say on everything…and everyone. She has had her fair share of drama with her fellow cast members, but she actually keeps in touch with most of them- even her former flame Ben Robinson.

Kate had a lot to say about Ben, but she also talked about some other members of the Below Deck and a couple people from Below Deck Mediterranean. She even blamed the success of Vanderpump Rules for Bobby Giancola’s recent off-putting behavior.

Kate talked with another Kate with the same initials- Kate Casey– during the latest episode of her Reality Life podcast. Kate Casey asked about her relationships with the cast outside of filming, and Kate actually has a lot of strong ties, even with all of the dramatics of being on reality TV.

She admitted, “I need my space away, but for some reason I am like the Below Deck cast member hotline.” Apparently a lot of people are hitting her up to talk and hang out. Weirdly enough, Kate is still in touch with former flame Ben even though he’s still dating Emily Warburton-Adams. She revealed, “Two weeks ago I had Ben visiting me in town and then he went back to Ft. Lauderdale and Emily was sending me messages from London talking about feeling insecure in the relationship and I’m like ‘You’re fine, Emily. He likes you.'” Reaching out to a boyfriend’s former flame seems a little odd to me, but good for them being mature and all that. Speaking of Ben’s love interests, Kate also mentioned, “And then the new stewardess Lauren [Cohen] on Below Deck Med because Ben had brought up as a date in the summer. So I knew her.” How does Ben get all these girls? I really just don’t see it. I’m not being a hater, but it’s not translating through my TV viewing.

Kate also revealed, “Bobby I got on the show because he was from my hometown so he was calling me.” That is not something that most people would brag about. She added, “And Hannah [Ferrier] and I are friends and Captain Lee was calling me. This was like all in one week.” And I’m sure a lot of those calls had to do with the feud between Hannah and Bobby.

She explained, “I was telling my friends, ‘I love everyone. I love talking to them, but it’s like a part-time job.'” That sounds like a part-time job that I would love to have, but then again, I am reality TV obsessed…obviously. Kate said, “I really value my friendships. Amy Johnson is going to come stay with me in a couple weeks. So I stay in touch with most people.”

One person that Kate Chastain would never keep in touch with is Rocky Dakota. Still, Kate Casey couldn’t help asking, “Is Rocky as much of a nut bag as she seems?” Chastain confessed, “I was just talking about Rocky earlier this week and I have to give her a compliment before I answer that question. People are still asking about her. People are still talking about her.  I mean she was great TV for that one season.” So true.

Still, she couldn’t help taking some digs at Rocky: “That being said, she’s also the most insane person that I think I’d ever met, but it’s like intelligent crazy. Sometimes people who are really smart are also kind of crazy.” At least she referred to her as “smart”…

Kate continued, “I think if she just got a good prescription from a doctor and balanced her mind out or something that she could do great things. Even the producers- they work with crazy people and look for crazy people- were like ‘This one is crazy.’ I think one producer said, ‘What the audience saw was just a fraction. We tried to edit her to look as sane as possible because we didn’t want people to change the channel because she was too crazy.'” If a Bravo producer thinks you’re too crazy, then you’re definitely too crazy.

Since Below Deck is in between seasons, we are left with Below Deck Mediterranean to keep us entertained. Unfortunately, that means that Bobby has taken center stage. Kate explained, “I thought he did okay his first season, but it started airing and it’s intense when you’re on a first season of a reality show: the feedback you get, the attention you get.” I get that… Or at least I can imagine how it would be an interesting experience to deal with.

Weirdly enough, Kate blames the success of Vanderpump Rules for Bobby’s ego. She said, “The fact that his friend Ariana [Madix] is on Pump Rules– she’s also from our town- I think that Bobby is behaving like a Pump Rules [cast member].” That sounds like it’s kind of a stretch, but anyway, Kate also said, “I think that Ariana probably gave him some advice and he probably watched Pump Rules and saw Tom Sandoval crying a lot and saw like all the outrageous behavior of the Pump Rules people and thought that if he applied that kind of strategy to Below Deck, he would do well. But I think it’s backfiring.” Yep. It’s backfiring.. in a major way.

After the Bobby convo, Kate Casey asked what I have been wondering for years: “What is the allure of Ben?” I too am so confused by the appeal there. Kate Chastain confessed, “I understand why people are asking that question because I wasn’t on the first season of Below Deck. I actually watched it.” She even admitted, “I thought Ben was obnoxious.”

Kate explained, “When you meet him, he’s very intelligent. He’s one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met and he’s got a very posh accent. And there’s just something about him once you meet him that it’s charming.” She added, “He’s really fun to banter with and he’s also kind of a bad boy.” Yeah, I still don’t get it, but Ben definitely made for some story lines on Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean.

Karen Huger Defends Ashley Darby’s Meddling In Robyn Dixon’s Relationship With Juan Dixon

So far this season Karen Huger has stayed out of the Real Housewives of Potomac drama. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure her time is coming, but as of now she’s just observing the conflict, sharing her opinion, and throwing shade in response.

Karen has a lot to say about the “news” Ashley Darby revealed during the last episode about Juan Dixon dating other people… even though he and Robyn Dixon aren’t even a couple.

Truthfully, Ashley came across as a total shit stirrer when she “revealed” that Juan was “dating” other women. Maybe she just had a terrible delivery, but she really did seem like she was just trying to start some drama by upsetting Robyn. Karen wrote all about this in her last Bravo blog entry.

Karen admitted, “I know Ashley can be a pot stirrer, but not this time. I believe Ashley’s intentions concerning Robyn are coming from a very good place.” I don’t know about that last part. It just seems like Ashley was thirsting for camera time to me. If she was actually “concerned” she would have talked to Robyn privately….and away from the camera.

She continued, “Ashley had heard what she considered to be some NOT so nice things said about Juan and wanted to discuss it with Robyn. Unfortunately, before Ashley could speak to Robyn, Gizelle [Bryant] shared what Ashley had mentioned to her.”

Karen wrote, “What we ALL didn’t know until Robyn told us that at the cookout was that she and Juan are NOT in a relationship and that if he is dating others, that’s ok. Had Robyn said this before, we would not be having this conversation. COOL – now we know.” I cannot be the only one who actually bought Robyn’s “it’s fine” attitude in that scene. Obviously they aren’t actually a couple, but there’s no chance in hell that it doesn’t bother Robyn. I wasn’t believing that for a second.

Karen defended Ashley: “I can understand Ashley’s confusion and conviction, she is a very intelligent person who stands her ground if she believes she’s right. Ashley simply reacted the way she did because she only had half of the story. In Ashley’s mind, the cheating rumor coupled with the fact that Robyn had recently shared with us that Juan wants her to his girlfriend/wife again doesn’t exactly go hand in hand. Could Ashley’s timing have been better – possibly? On the other hand, maybe not? When is it ever a good time to tell your friend that you’ve heard infidelity rumors about her partner? It had to be difficult for Ashley, as she’d pondered whether or not to go to Robyn as the bearer of bad news. She was attempting to do what she thought was the right thing.”

Considering that Ashley has been shitting on Robyn and Juan non-relationship the entire season, I find it pretty tough to believe that she was coming from a place of kindness or concern.

On the other hand, Charrisse Jackson-Jordan and Gizelle actually do seem to care about Robyn and that intervention seemed genuine- which is not a word I ever expected to use describing Gizelle. Although I feel like the reality check was necessary, Karen wasn’t a fan of that conversation though. She said, “This sit down with Robyn is exactly what Robyn does NOT want. Robyn asks all of us time and time again to stay out of her relationship with Juan and to mind our own business.” Then don’t go on a reality show where your only story line is the fact that you live with your ex husband.

Karen maintained, “Personally, I respect her and our friendship enough to do just that. Robyn is a grown woman and she knows that I will be there for her when needed.” She added, “While I believe Gizelle and Charrisse mean well, they are not respecting Robyn’s wishes.” Yeah, but what else is there to talk to Robyn about? She has no other story line. Ever.

Villa Blanca Fire! Lisa Vanderpump & Ken Todd’s Restaurant Suffers Damage

The Vanderpump Rules viewers are used to the drama at Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd’s restaurant SUR, but now their original California restaurant Villa Blanca is making headlines and it’s for a pretty scary reason. The restaurant caught on fire.

Thankfully, it seems like all the people who were present are safe and sound, but I’m sure it was a horrifying experience.

According to a post from TMZ, the fire at Villa Blanca stemmed from one of the pizza ovens on Monday afternoon. The staff and customers were evacuated and Ken was present to make sure everything was alright.

TMZ reports that Ken said the restaurant “will be closed for a few days for cleanup.” It could have been much worse. At least all of the people are alive and well.  As of this moment, neither Lisa nor Ken has commented about the fire on social media and no additional details have been released.

Updated to add: Lisa Vanderpump Tweeted out that it wasn’t exactly a fire as reported. It more just a smoking pizza oven. She wrote, “wasn’t on fire, pizza oven was smoking.” She added that all is well now.

Southern Charm Savannah Recap: The Legend Of Bag Her Pants

Was it hot on last night’s Southern Charm Savannah or was it just me? And I’m not just talking about a faulty attic fan…temperatures were rising on the back nine at the country club! Prior to Ashley Borders‘ house catching fire, we learn a little about her relationship with husband Dennis. As she heads out for the fateful girls’ night, she admits that she and Dennis wed because she became pregnant with their son. When Izzie was a toddler, the pair divorced only to remarry a few years later for the sake of their son. Ashley reveals that she and Dennis haven’t had a sexual relationship since Izzie was born, but she realizes he was put in her life to save her son from this fire. She sees him in a different light now, and perhaps the flames of love will be rekindled.

Happy McCullough‘s family has been in Savannah for a really, really long time, and clearly she went to Savannah Country Day. While the expectation was she would settle down with a Savannah blue blood like herself, Episcopalian Happy is engaged to Atlanta native Azam who happens to be Muslim.While her very conservative grandmother has been nothing but supportive, her mother has been harder to convince. Happy’s mom dated Daniel’s dad for close to a decade, and he is Jewish. However, Happy’s mother argues that she didn’t marry him. Happy considers Daniel to be her brother even though their parents are no longer together, and he feels badly that her mother won’t come around where Azam is concerned.

The next morning, Hannah Pearson goes to check on Ashley who rambles on about protective symbols and ghost stories. Her house is clearly built on a Native American burial ground. The girls walk through the city sipping mimosas when Ashley goes deep on her romance (or lack thereof) with Dennis. Hannah isn’t comfortable with this line of conversation, so she quickly changes the subject to her man child who has matured into a would-be sock mogul. Seriously, is this like a Rob Kardashian franchise? If so, where do I sign up? I’d like to get my foot in the door on the ground floor of this million dollar idea.

The following day, Ashley hits the links with Daniel, Louis and another friend. Having played in college, Ashley takes the boys to task and suggests strip golf. The foursome makes up the rules as they go along, but it just involves the guys disrobing. Louis feels like a total douche playing a gentleman’s game without his shirt. At least he’s honest…and correct. Not wanting the guys to feel left out, Ashley shimmies out of her shirt and shorts (um, why?) to reveal a see-through black lace onesie thong situation that requires Bravo’s nipple blurs (trademark pending). Having won the round, Ashley announces her prize…the guys are to participate in a drag night. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this outing is going to alienate the other ladies.

Catherine Cooper‘s parents break out of their comfort zone to visit their daughter’s party pad. Her mom is super impressed by her studio apartment, but her father isn’t quite convinced. Catherine then relays that she wants to try her hand at event planning after hosting a successful homecoming for Lyle Mackenzie. Someone get her poor father a much stiffer drink! Catherine’s mother laughs at her daughter’s gumption. She finds it hilarious that Catherine fancies herself a party planner when she rarely gets out of bed before noon. Meanwhile, Ashley and Nelson shop for an engagement present for Happy as Ashley rattles on about Southern rules, virginity, pussy cats, and Trump. Is it just me, or does she seem to put on the accent a tad thicker when she’s espousing Savannah’s canons of etiquette?

On a date night, Hannah praises Louis for taking the next step with his socks. I mean, these puns are just too easy! He speaks of socks with such passion, and his eyes light up talking about textiles. He then climbs up the truth tree to rehash the golf outing. He seems clearly mortified by his behavior, and props to him for being honest. Not surprisingly, Hannah doesn’t take the news of Ashley‘s lingerie nine iron very well. She was raised to keep her clothes on, and she feels especially foolish after just confiding in Ashley about the issues in her relationship with Louis. A defeated Louis (he was just trying to do the right thing!), and again he cites everyone’s behavior as douchetastic. Truth sayer, thy name is Louis.

The following day, the girls are toasting Hannah at her bridal shower. Ashley mistakenly read the invitation as Studio 54 attire. Catherine and Happy giggle “just teasing” as they label Ashley’s outfit as slutty (to her face! Southern no-no!), and Hannah retreats to the backyard. She’s not ready to deal with strip golf. Hannah confides in Catherine about her parents’ divorce and her anger at her father for cheating on her mom. Happy’s mother bends Ashley’s ear about how much she adores Azam. He asked her for her daughter’s hand and said he’d go to church with Happy once the pair has children. However, she just can’t get over the fact her daughter won’t be allowed to have a cross in her house. Again, huh? Happy’s mother doesn’t have a problem with Azam being Muslim though. No sir. After all, she’s dear friends with Deepak Chopra. Granted, he’s not Muslim, but he is famous, and he believes Azam is Happy’s soulmate.

Ashley joins Catherine and Hannah outside to invite them to her house cleansing. She’s ready to sage the bad juju out of her home after the fire. Before getting the scheduling details, Catherine announces she’s unable to attend due to a hair appointment. Look out Regina George! As Happy gushes over every gift (can you believe it’s plastic? These platters don’t need polishing! OMG, this wok is my everything!), she’s careful not to break any bows. She’s clearly saving the baby superstitions for later in wedding season. Post presents, Catherine snarks to Ashley about her Tiger Woods impression. That evening, Lyle and Catherine are crabbing for their dinner. Lyle is so smitten, and he wants so badly to be a part of Catherine’s family. Her parents are pretty fabulous, so I can’t say I blame him. Unlike Catherine, Lyle wasn’t born with a trust fund or access to unlimited funds, but he wants to provide Catherine with the lifestyle to which she’s become accustomed…and not by mooching off her folks. He fully intends to support her with his hard work. As he tries to talk with Catherine about the future, she dodges the conversation with kisses. Oh Lyle. Bless your heart.

Across town, Ashley skateboards over to Hannah‘s apartment, because of course. Over wine, Hannah broaches the subject of strip golf as delicately as possible. Ashley is on the defensive, citing double standards between women and men. Plus, Louis didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t think that’s what Hannah was getting at, right? Droning on and on about feminism and embracing her body with its flaws, Ashley makes the comparison that shirtless guys are revered while girls in tank tops are shunned. Was that a tank top she was wearing on the golf course? Ashley is abashedly unapologetic. In fact, she’d do it again. Hannah diplomatically tries to explain that she was uncomfortable by the situation but makes the mistake of saying something about be raised differently and implying she’s more God-fearing. The comment sets off Ashley completely who refuses to try to see her friend’s point of view. Talk about unleashing negative energy!

Andy Cohen Confirms Phaedra Parks Won’t Return To RHOA; Bethenny Frankel Denies Producers Would Set Phaedra Up!

Well it looks like it’s officially been confirmed that Phaedra Parks won’t be returning to Real Housewives Of Atlanta. Both Andy Cohen and Bethenny Frankel (self-described unofficial Real Housewives expert) are speaking out about the shocking conclusion of the RHOA reunion and the revelation that Phaedra lied about Kandi Burruss saying she wanted to drug and rape Porsha Williams.

Andy all but admits the cast united against Phaedra Obviously- who would trust working with her after that?! Phaedra is already slippery when not wet – now she’s basically spoiled buttermilk curdling the cake!

Andy reveals that the network considered what to do about Phaedra, and asked “the question” of how to handle things. But “none of the other women wanted to have anything to do with her.”

“So that’s what you have to look at,” continued Andy. “How do you shoot a show about a group of friends when no one is speaking to one of the friends?” Well considering most of them weren’t friends to begin with, yes – how do you?

As for Phaedra’s allegations that production set her up and is responsible for the rumor, Bethenny defends Bravo and dismisses the allegation completely. “I’ve been doing this for 10 years,” the Real Housewives Of New York star countered. “I actually, sadly, consider myself to be a veteran. The producers do not make you do these things at all.”

Bethenny, who was herself accused of conspiring with production to expose Luann de Lesseps‘ finance’s cheating last season, denies that producers stir the pot behind the scenes. “The producers don’t know exactly what’s going on, so they might say, ‘Are you going to talk to Kandi about this?’ They don’t know,” she insisted to E! News at the NBC Upfronts.

Bethenny also insists that production would “never” plant a lie within the housewives. “It would be a massive problem,” she contends. “This isn’t The Hills – it’s real. It really is! So, yeah, no, that would never happen.” Oh, yeah? Really? Uh-huh. Mmmkay. Now I’m not saying I believe Phaedra one whit, but everybody knows the producers aren’t that innocent…

Joe Gorga Opening An Italian Restaurant – Gorga’s Homemade Pasta & Pizza

I feel like there are so many reality TV stars that (attempt to) open up restaurants, but I’m pretty surprised to learn that Melissa Gorga’s husband Joe Gorga is about to be one of them. Sure, he’s all about the Italian pride, but he was also very adamant about the kitchen being a woman’s place.

Then again, starting up a restaurant would be the perfect compromise for Joe and Melissa. He can take care of the business aspects and she can oversee the menu. I have no idea if Melissa is even involved in this project, but I’m sure her husband has asked her for advice while he has been working to get the place up and running.

As expected, Joe’s restaurant will be serving up Italian food in New Jersey. There is zero surprise there. According to a recent article from NJ.com, the restaurant will be located in East Hanover, New Jersey.

It is called Gorga’s Homemade Pasta & Pizza and it is described as a place that will “specialize in bringing delicious versions of our family’s favorite Italian dishes to you.” I’m sure there will be plenty of self promotion scenes involving the start of this restaurant during the next Real Housewives of New Jersey season.

I wonder if the chef will be using any recipes from Teresa Giudice’s cookbooks. I would also love to know what Joe’s cousin Kathy Wakile thinks about this news since she also has an Italian restaurant in the works. There’s no word on when the restaurant will officially open, but I’m sure Melissa and Teresa will share the news when it’s official official on their social media accounts.

Since filming is underway for the next season of Real Housewives of New Jersey, it’s likely we’ll be seeing the restaurant’s progress on the show.
