Swift’s team announced she would be releasing the official music video on Apple Music and Spotify Premium on Friday, February 6, and then releasing it on YouTube on February 8. Fans believed it was to ensure that the pop star was simply boosting “Opalite’s” chances of charting better through paid streaming apps and ranking on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Billboard does not take YouTube views into consideration anymore. Hence, Swift released it on Apple Music and Spotify Premium first to boost her chances of charting on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the first two days of its release. After that, she released it on YouTube to make it accessible to the general public.

However, a certain section of fans has slammed this move. Swift is known for going out of her way to generously deliver more than promised or intended. But this time, fans believe the pop star put forth her personal success over accessibility to fans.

These fans criticized her actions on X. One fan wrote, “These kinds of actions are what prove that Taylor Swift only cares about the charts.” A second fan commented, “This isn’t funny. I don’t have music videos on my Spotify,” accompanied by a crying emoji.
