Big Brother fans in the UK are furious. This week, the show introduced a twist in its final week which could not only steal money away from the prize pot, but see a fan favorite housemate evicted, whether or not they’re at the bottom of the public vote.
In the UK, Big Brother works very differently to the US. Evictions take place on a weekly basis, and usually, the public decides who to evict in a public vote. Now in its final week, the British public are voting for their favorite housemate to win. But a shock twist means that one housemate has the opportunity to put three of their fellow housemates in danger. The person receiving the lowest votes out of those three will be evicted in ninth place.
This means that, hypothetically, the three housemates with the most votes to win from the public could be put in jeopardy. The housemate who would finish third if the vote between all nine housemates was held today, could then go home in ninth place.
Big Brother’s latest twist hasn’t made anyone happy
Speaking to the house, Big Brother explained: “Housemates, congratulations on making it to the final week … Housemates, the final and the prize money is nearly within reach and for one of you today, that cash will be even closer. That’s because, Big Brother is about to open a very special room in the house. The Vault. Here the prize money can be played for, and game changing decisions will be made.
“One of you is about to be given the chance to win up to £10k. Which one of you that is, will be left up to fate. Will one housemate go and collect the golden envelopes from the hatch and place them on the table.”
An early press release has revealed that Segun – who is near or at the bottom of numerous polls for favorite to win across social media – claimed the golden envelope. This afforded him the opportunity to steal cash, and place other housemates in danger.
“The fact that they didn’t tell us this on Friday when they opened the vote, and waited until it was closed on Sunday before revealing it, tells me they knew it was controversial and get a reaction,” one fan posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“Genuinely the worst production decision this show has ever made,” another said. Others suggested that complaints should be made to OFCOM, the regulatory and competition authority for British broadcasting.
Whether or not that will gain any traction remains to be seen. For now, exactly who will go home will be revealed in tonight’s (November 11, 2024) show.
Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX in the UK.
