Calling it the “beautiful reflecting pond,” Trump claimed vandals had damaged the site by cutting into it with knives. He said the attraction was “in the hospital now” but would recover soon, adding that he wanted it repaired properly instead of leaving it partially functional. Trump also described those responsible as “very terrible,” continuing to blame alleged acts of vandalism for the project’s setbacks.

However, Trump is yet to provide evidence supporting his claims about knife-wielding vandals. Internal National Park Service records reportedly found that the damage did not stem from the “American Flag Blue,” while experts also rejected the vandalism theory. Federal workers have again drained the reflecting pool as they inspect ongoing issues at the site.

The renovation has drawn attention not only because of Trump’s comments but also because of its cost and repeated setbacks. The administration’s no-bid contractor has overseen a project that has already cost about $17 million, including millions in national park entrance fees.

Although officials refilled the reflecting pool before the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, algae growth, peeling paint, and dead ducklings forced another closure shortly afterward. Polling published by The Washington Post also suggests many Americans remain unconvinced by Trump’s broader plans to reshape Washington, D.C., with most respondents expressing unfavorable views of those projects.

President Donald Trump stated the United States and Iran are “having good talks” regarding their ongoing conflict, as reported by Reuters. He expressed optimism, saying there is “a good chance that something could happen” between the two nations. However, he cautioned that American military strikes would restart if diplomacy fails to deliver outcomes.

The White House abruptly halted a two-week aerial bombing campaign against Iran on Saturday. The operation had spanned 13 straight nights of escalating strikes targeting southern Iranian infrastructure. U.S. military leaders reportedly told Trump they had exhausted the list of meaningful targets.

Speaking at a campaign event in Michigan later on Monday, Trump adopted a firmer stance. “You can’t bribe them. You’ve got to beat them, and we’ll beat the hell out of them,” he declared. He also noted that “very friendly negotiations” were actively underway between both countries.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei acknowledged that indirect communication has continued through mediators. Still, he rejected claims that Tehran had sought out the negotiations, calling such reports “fabricated.” Separately, a senior Iranian official confirmed Iran would pause its own attacks during Trump’s ceasefire.

Despite the diplomatic signals, Iran’s regional proxies launched strikes on Monday across the Gulf. Saudi Arabia intercepted drones targeting petroleum infrastructure, including sites near the capital Riyadh. Yemen’s Houthi movement also claimed responsibility for striking a key Saudi oil pipeline.

Global oil markets reacted sharply to the ceasefire and Trump’s remarks about ongoing diplomacy. U.S. crude dropped 8.21% to $81.98 per barrel during Monday’s trading session. Brent crude similarly fell 9.31% to $87.77 per barrel on the same day.

Meanwhile, a Reuters/Ipsos weekend poll placed Trump’s approval rating at 37%, up three points. Just one in three Americans expressed support for the military campaign against Iran.

Netanyahu, on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures, rejected that framing entirely. “He’s supposed to be the mayor of all New Yorkers — Jews, Christians, Muslims, everyone,” he said. “But he’s trying to turn one group against the other,” Netanyahu added. He confirmed his intention to travel to New York in September regardless of the mayor’s stance.

The Israeli prime minister dismissed the ICC’s war crimes charges as “bogus,” pointing to sexual misconduct allegations against the court’s chief prosecutor, who was removed from that position on Friday. Netanyahu argued the warrant represented an effort to divert attention from that scandal. President Donald Trump had also weighed in with a Truth Social post assuring Netanyahu he “will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America.”

King Charles Just Created a New Royal Tradition

King Charles and Queen Camilla recently attended the Sandringham Flower Show at the monarch’s private Sandringham estate. However, this year, it was particularly significant because it was hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) for the first time. The royal couple’s outing comes following their private reunion with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their children, Archie and Lilibet.

The King and Queen hosted a new RHS gardening event at the Royal estate

This year, the Royal Horticultural Society took on the responsibility of hosting the Sandringham Flower Show for the first time. The exhibition that has taken place since 1881 witnessed the presence of King Charles and Queen Camilla, who arrived in a horse-drawn carriage from Sandringham House. 

Before heading to tour the RHS Royal Legacy Garden, the monarchs greeted the crowd and the onlookers. The king then looked at the garden he helped build alongside Catherine MacDonald, calling its final result “fantastic.”

Previously, MacDonald shared what they look forward to together by designing the garden. She said, “We want to encourage people to make choices in their own gardens that work with nature, recognising the role we all play in supporting wildlife and promoting tree and plant diversity for now and the future.”

Charles was particularly delighted to see one specific exhibit, which used a sink and upcycled toilet to grow flowers. At the time, a well-wisher complimented that the king looked good for his age. He then responded, “It gets much harder, doesn’t it?”

Additionally, he asked the children if they ate vegetables grown inside the garden while personally believing that spinach is the “best thing in the world.” Meanwhile, Camilla also stepped in to present her special award to students from Ingoldisthorpe Church of England Primary School, who created a bee-themed display.

It was announced that RHS will host the flower exhibition every three years, with the next one now scheduled for 2029. Other times, the Sandringham Estate Cottage Horticultural Society (SECHS) Trust will continue hosting the event every year as it always has (via PEOPLE).

Speaking on a recent podcast, Wayne backed Trump’s plan to add a permanent ballroom to the White House, arguing that major performances deserve an indoor venue instead of being held outside.

Reflecting on Trump’s comments about the project, Wayne said he understood exactly why the president wanted the new venue. “I’m so glad to hear Trump say” the White House needs a ballroom because events end up happening “on the damn lawn,” Wayne said.

He added that many critics “don’t know nothing” and may assume Trump is simply making another headline-grabbing statement, but, in his view, the issue is real. Wayne described the Harris event as feeling more like a “backyard barbecue” than a formal White House celebration.

Trump has repeatedly promoted the ballroom as a long-term upgrade for the White House. He has said it would host everything from state dinners and diplomatic receptions to concerts and other large-scale White House functions while also improving security for those events.

In a Truth Social post earlier this year, Trump said the project was progressing quickly and rejected reports that costs had spiraled out of control. According to Trump, the ballroom expanded from its original concept because the first design was too small. He said the revised version is expected to cost less than $400 million, compared with an earlier estimate of $200 million, while remaining ahead of schedule.

For those not in the know, Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. one of hip-hop’s most influential artists. The five-time Grammy winner is known for albums including Tha Carter III, Tha Carter IV, and Tha Carter V.

Court documents list the reason for her request as “personal.” For those unversed, Pitt and Jolie’s children have lived with their mother since the couple’s divorce in 2024.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has filed a legal request to forgo her father’s last name. The 18-year-old has filed a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

The court documents obtained by PEOPLE state that the reason for the name change is listed as “personal.” As per the documents, a hearing on Vivienne’s petition has been scheduled for November 2. In May 2024, the 18-year-old was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for Broadway’s The Outsiders. She produced the play in collaboration with her mother.

Vivienne is the latest of the former couple’s children to initiate legal steps to remove her father’s last name. Her siblings Zahara and Maddox also initiated the legal process. Zahara is requesting to legally change her name to Zahara Marley Jolie. On the other hand, Maddox is seeking to be legally addressed as Maddox Chivan Jolie. His hearing is scheduled for September 14, and Zahara’s hearing is set for September 28. 

Back in 2024, Pitt and Jolie’s daughter Shiloh dropped Pitt from her name and is now known as Shiloh Jolie. The 20-year-old’s petition was granted in August 2024. A source close to Pitt previously told the outlet, “It’s sad to see someone repeatedly publicize their successful alienation of their children from the other parent.”

Previously, Jolie lavished praise on her children and shared with PEOPLE, “I have six very individual human beings in my home. I am so excited about all the different stages and feelings and curiosities that they go through. Why wouldn’t you be? We’re supposed to help them figure out who they are. And you can’t figure out who they are if you don’t enthusiastically develop with them.”
