According to Page Six, a nearby resident claimed the system was recently activated. The neighbor said a person approaching the home received a voice warning not to enter the property after getting too close.

Swift and Kelce purchased the lakefront estate in Bratenahl for $5.35 million in March. The purchase came months before the couple tied the knot in July. The 21,000-square-foot home features eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. It also includes a game room, a theater, and views of Lake Erie. The property sits just outside Cleveland, not far from where Kelce grew up.

Despite the added security, locals say the couple has kept a low profile since moving in. Veteran realtor Patricia Knight Gary of Howard Hanna Realty said that the neighborhood remains quiet. She explained that the village already has regular police patrols and security measures. However, she believes discussions about additional security could happen following the couple’s arrival.

The Ohio mansion is one of several properties the pair owns. Earlier this month, Page Six reported that Kelce’s home in Leawood, Kansas, remains their primary residence while he continues playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift also owns homes in Nashville, Rhode Island, Beverly Hills, and New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood. Those properties give the couple several options throughout the year.

Knight Gary also suggested the high-profile purchase could benefit the local housing market. She said some homeowners may hope the celebrity neighbors increase property values. However, she added that it is still too early to know what long-term impact the couple will have on the community.

The Royal and VIP Executive Committee reportedly commissioned both reviews after their UK move. RAVEC determines eligibility for taxpayer-funded police protection. The couple have also been granted an interim security provision during the assessment process.

Additionally, RAVEC reportedly requested detailed schedules from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That includes daily routines involving Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five. Their school runs could help officials assess potential risks.

Meanwhile, Harry already received a Risk Management Board analysis in July. However, he has not yet learned its conclusions. At that point, officials reportedly did not know the family planned an extended UK return. Harry previously argued he did “not feel safe” bringing his children without official protection.

For context, King Charles issued fresh royal guidance on September 7 following the Sussexes’ return. The letter stated there was “no change” to their status as non-working royals. It said officials should contact Buckingham Palace where “recourse to public funds” might be required. However, it directed “operational security issues” to the relevant police authorities.

Palace insiders said the guidance repeated terms agreed in 2020. Meanwhile, Meghan Markle’s new security review remains separate from her royal status. It focuses on current risk rather than restoring her former automatic protection.

Donald Trump made the assertion a day after he stunned a Dallas crowd by unveiling the proposal at the first-ever Republican midterm convention at the American Airlines Center. The president was asked whether Congress would need to approve the payments.

Trump answered, “Well, we think not. I think they will do it if we needed it. But we think not. The country is doing so well, we’ve taken in trillions of dollars in tariffs and other things,” Trump said. “We have now over $20 trillion worth of manufacturing plants and other investments being made in the United States, which is far greater than ever before.”

He added one condition: recipients must spend the money at home. “We do have one proviso, and that’s that the money be spent… people spend their money in the United States,” he said. Further sharing, “We don’t want to have that money spent in other countries. We think it’s something that’s really good, popular and it’s a great infusion.”

Trump’s confidence collides with the Constitution, which hands Congress the power of the purse. No clear legal authority exists for a president to send out payments of this size on his own. The price tag could climb past $1 trillion. Vice President JD Vance floated tariff revenue as a funding source after Trump’s speech (via Fox News). But the math falls far short.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the government has collected $167 billion in tariffs this fiscal year, which ends September 30, and it’s nowhere near enough. The CBO also projects a $2.1 trillion deficit this year, with the gap widening as the population ages (via Reuters).

However, Trump tied the $5k payment to the midterms, saying they would go out if Republicans hold the House and Senate. Several GOP members have warmed to the idea, though others voice skepticism.

Meanwhile, the report said trouble had grown around how close Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could appear to the monarchy. The answer from a senior Royal Household figure was “not at all.” The couple’s team said they were “surprised” by the letter. However, the report said Team Charles saw the clarification as “in plain sight.” It also noted that Prince William viewed Harry’s return as “high risk” and wanted to avoid another public brother clash.

Still, McElvoy said the deeper problem was Prince William’s new professional setup. She wrote that the Prince of Wales had hired Liza Ravenscroft from Edelman as a “crisis comms” expert. He also brought in Tom White for Catherine and Lee Thompson for international strategy. By comparison, Harry and Meghan relied on U.S.-era PR advisers. That left them “under-armed in the public relations battle.” For Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince William, the fight was framed around recognition, status, and palace control.
