The Hawkeyes won 93-85, and Caitlin Clark scored 38 points. Klobuchar then pointed out Schmitt’s apparent mix-up between the NBA’s Hawks and Iowa’s Hawkeyes, telling him the false implication warranted an apology; Schmitt refused. Smith also denied ever meeting Willis or Wade.

Major U.S. business groups gave a warning to Donald Trump this week: banning diesel exports would push prices up, not down. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Business Roundtable, National Association of Manufacturers, American Petroleum Institute and dozens of other organizations made the case in a joint letter delivered on Wednesday.

They told the president that restricting exports would “lead to less fuel production, tighter supplies and rising costs for American families, farmers and truckers.” Further adding, “You have been asked by some to ban or limit the export of diesel to help lower prices, when in fact the opposite would occur” (via CNBC).

Political pressure is driving the debate. Republican lawmakers from farm states such as Iowa want action on fuel costs before the midterm elections. Diesel averaged $6.51 a gallon nationwide Thursday, up $2.82 from a year earlier, according to AAA.

Moreover, Trump confirmed on Tuesday that he has pushed the idea internally. “I’ve said let’s not send out the diesel. We make a lot of diesel,” he told reporters at the U.N. General Assembly in New York. “I’ve called for it within my people. I’ve been talking about it.” The remarks blindsided the oil industry and business community. A Politico report that the White House was drafting a 90-day ban sent diesel futures and refiner shares tumbling on Wednesday.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said officials are studying whether a ban is “feasible in terms of the overall refining capacity and whether a full or partial ban would work.” Energy Secretary Chris Wright, however, downplayed the prospect. He told The New York Times that “nobody wants a full blanket ban or zero exports of diesel,” adding that discussions center on moving more diesel into the U.S. while keeping other fuel flows steady.

All in all, energy experts caution that a ban would briefly sink diesel prices in some regions before refiners cut output and costs climb again. Global supplies are already stretched: Ukraine’s strikes on Russian refineries pushed Moscow to halt exports, while attacks by Iran and its Houthi allies have disrupted Middle East refining and Strait of Hormuz shipments.

The decision comes as tensions between the U.S. and Canada continue to escalate over trade and sovereignty issues. Councilor Riley Brockington is leading the effort and will have residents propose replacement names.

The move follows months of friction between the two nations. Trump stirred controversy over the summer by renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. Trade negotiations between Ottawa and Washington collapsed in August, triggering tariffs and retaliatory measures from Canada.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe expressed strong support for the change after the vote. “I don’t like the idea of anything that’s named for Donald Trump, who has demonstrated hostility towards Canada,” he told the press. Brockington emphasized the decision was about sovereignty rather than the lake renaming.

“He does not deserve the honor of having his name on a city of Ottawa street,” Brockington told The New York Times. “We’re the nation’s capital.” Residents on the 65-house street have also welcomed the change. “It’s embarrassing, like they just chuckle and laugh,” 65-year-old retiree John Germano told the Times about ordering deliveries. “It gets worse and worse every day.”

Curtis seeks testimony on “their past business dealings, relationships with foreign individuals and entities, gifts or other benefits they have received, and any instances in which their relationship to the President was invoked or understood to provide value.”

The Utah senator acted after reports surfaced that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, who maintains ties to Vladimir Putin, funded Donald Trump Jr.’s post-wedding celebration in the Caribbean in May. Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina, confirmed the arrangement on Instagram, describing it as “an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend.”

During the event, Kris pushed back on the idea that she simply funded Kylie’s business.

“You can call her a, what do they call them, Nepo Babies or whatever,” Kris said. “But it wasn’t like I was just, you know, passing out $1,000 bills and saying, oh, let’s go build a business.”

Instead, Kris said she told Kylie to use money she earned while filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Kylie started filming the reality show when she was just 9 years old.

“I said to her, look, you have your money from Keeping Up, and I said, if you’re going to start this business, you’re going to use your own money,” Kris explained. She then added, “And if you win, you win.”

Kris also recalled joking about Kylie’s lipstick choices. “If you run out of [lipstick], you better pick good colors; you’ll be wearing this lipstick for the rest of the day,” she said.

The comments echo Kris’ earlier defense of Kylie’s business success. In 2019, Kris called Kylie “self-made” during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
