Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. This comes after further review of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which were released by the Department of Justice last month.
The former prince was arrested on the morning of his 66th birthday. He is currently in custody, but the location where he is being held has not been revealed. “As part of the investigation, we have today arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office,” a statement from Thames Valley Police announced on February 19. “[We] are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”
“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,” the statement continued, before acknowledging “the significant public interest in this case.”
King Charles said “the law must take its course” after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest
Following his brother’s unprecedented arrest, King Charles has released a formal statement.
“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” it began. “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.
The statement continued: “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
“As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter,” the monarch added. “Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”

Virginia Giuffre’s family have spoken out
While Andrew’s arrest is in relation to misconduct in public office, Virginia Giuffre’s family have also shared a statement.
To recap, Virginia was one of convicted sex offender Epstein’s most prominent victims. She made several allegations against Andrew when he was still a prince and later took him to court. In 2022, the pair reached an out-of-court settlement in regard to these claims. She sadly took her own life last year at the age of 41. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing.
“At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty,” her family told CBS this morning.
“On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the UK’s Thames Valley Police for their investigation and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor,” they added. “He was never a prince. For survivors everywhere, Virginia did this for you.”
