When Jeff Varner outed fellow contestant Zeke Smith as a transgender man during tribal council last night, Survivor fans were shocked--and not just by Varner's stunningly desperate decision to...It's Jughead's birthday on tonight's Riverdale, meaning it's also Jughead's least favorite day of the year. In "The Lost Weekend," Betty (Lili Reinhart)...It was a different kind of episode this week on Survivor, one that grabbed national headlines outside the realm of Reality TV sites. The line between real-life and “the game” was crossed unlike ever before and one player was given one of the most shameful exits in the history of the show.

Usually I start off these interview articles by giving a bit of background on the player I’m about to interview, but this week is just different. There’s really only one thing you need to know. Jeff Varner is a three-time player and for many – myself included – has always been a fan-favorite. But his inexcusable words and actions this week – outing Zeke Smith as transgender as a means to try to stay in the game – will forever overshadow whatever other achievements he’s made or will make on Survivor. And that’s probably the legacy he deserves.
That being said, Varner is a human being and all human beings make mistakes…one difference being that most of our mistakes are not broadcast for millions of others to see…but that doesn’t make them any less meaningful. Think what you will of Varner and what he did, but for what it’s worth, he has given heartfelt apologies not only to Zeke, but to everyone who was left feeling disappointed, outraged, saddened, or hurt in any way by what he did at Tribal Council.
I spoke to Varner today and it’s a Podcast interview you won’t want to miss (the full audio of which you can find at the bottom of this article). But here were some highlights:
JEFF VARNER INTERVIEW:
On if time has made the situation better or worse for him (the show took place over 10 months ago) and how he was handling his press day:
Jeff Varner: It started out incredibly emotional and I’ve had quite an emotional experience all day. It’s been political in certain places and it’s come to a place that is just extreme gratitude. I can’t talk to enough people, because this conversation is something that needs to be out there, I’m grateful for CBS putting it out there, and I’m happy to talk to you and to anybody else who wants to talk to me tonight, I’ll talk about this on this phone all damn day long. I think it’s important for me to say, that while I had an important journey and I am on an important journey…I really don’t think it’s appropriate today to talk about my experience. Even though there’s a great story there, I think today I really just want to focus on Zeke because his journey has got to be 15-million times tougher than mine. And it’s my fault that he has to go through this, so that’s been very difficult to live with.
On if he feels CBS had any responsibility in their decision to air the Tribal Council as it happened:
They did what they needed to do. There’s a lot that hit the floor that I wish had been in the show, it would have put more in to context some of the comments that were left out, and hugs and kisses and compassion and support that was left out. Jeff Probst even said flat-out at the Tribal Council that he’s known me for 20 years and that he knows there is not a hateful bone in my body. That was not put in the show, and that certainly would have made my experience a little bit easier, but I understand that this is not about me. Last night was about Zeke and it was about creating and crafting the story that elevated his voice, you know just like all trans-voices need. We need to stop separating and dividing, minimizing and discriminating against trans-people. We have to acknowledge their humanity and their dignity and lift their voices and show the positive and wonderful around who these people are and I’m grateful that CBS did that last night. I’ve heard a lot of the criticism against CBS, I’ve heard a whole lot of “don’t worry about it Varner, you just outed Zeke to six people, CBS outed him to 13 million people.” Think about that however you may, but what I’m finding today, is that I’m extremely grateful that CBS had the balls to put this on TV, because this is a discussion we all need to have.

Based on the trailer for the season, it looks like Karen Huger has a questionable financial situation, which is a textbook Real Housewives story line that always works, but we didn’t get to that part yet.
Right now we have some awful insults flying back and forth between Gizelle and Charrisse every episode. It’s even trickling down to the new girl Monique Samuels that Charrisse introduced to the group. Obviously, Gizelle was never going to give her a chance.

Charrisse dished on the second episode of the season in her last Bravo blog. With all of the drama coming her way, at least she was able to bring Monique onto the show to have an ally a friend on her side. Unfortunately, she got some second hand embarrassment after the other ladies were less than welcoming to Monique.
Charrisse wrote, “I was expecting the ladies to be a bit reserved with Monique, but I was a little taken aback by the lack of warmth given. Why are folks acting as though we are some secret society and folks have to pass a certain requirement to even break bread with us?” Honestly. Aside from it being rude in general, it’s not as if these women are on an established Housewives show. Potomac is basically the redheaded step child of this franchise. They need to slow their roll.
I’m not shocked that Gizelle was rude. That is very standard at this point.
Charrisse explained, “I knew Gizelle wasn’t going to care for her, because she has the lifestyle that can be quite intimidating for Gizelle.” It seems like Monique is the only one who is not fronting about her wealth on this show. Gizelle has no idea what she got herself into.
Obviously what Gizelle did to Charrisse was way worse than the things Charrisse said about her, but slut-shaming is never acceptable. Charrisse wrote that she regrets comparing Gizelle to Monica Lewinsky, but it’s not for the reason you may think. She actually apologized to Monica: “Looking back at the Lewinsky comment, I do regret saying that. That was truly a low blow and I should not have allowed my anger to stoop to that level. I REALLY wish I hadn’t said that. Monica is probably a nice woman – and I should not have compared her to Gizelle.” Savage.

Just like the viewers, Charrisse did not buy that “apology.” “Being that Gizelle is Queen of not taking ownership of her actions, I honestly didn’t find her apology as sincere.” Obviously she just did that in front of the rest of the cast to make herself look good.
The barrage of insults continued: “In my heart I feel that she has a clinical form of narcissism. She can’t see outside of herself. Unfortunately, she doesn’t care who she hurts in the process because she is so desperate for attention. I find people like Gizelle quite sad and I truly feel sorry for her. Note to self….add Gizelle to prayer list.”
Based on the previews for the season, Karen will eventually get what’s coming to her, but for now it looks like she’s sticking to her role as a wannabe puppet master in this cast. She was trying to stir shit up by calling out Robyn Dixon in front of everyone and it was just so desperate.
Charrisse asserted, “Karen bringing up her conversation with Robyn and turning into Robyn having two faces is absurd. Robyn has the right to disagree with the actions of her friend when the friend is clearly wrong. A true friend tells you when your wrong and Robyn did just that.”

The outing of Zeke Smith as transgender by Jeff Varner on Survivor: Game Changers sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, but it's not the first time the CBS reality series has...This season of Southern Charm has just begun, but already the cast interviews are in full swing! While Shep Rose can come across as an arrogant playboy who hates on his inner circle, there is something inherently affable (at least to me) about him ninety percent of the time. His goofy confidence, fratastic lifestyle, and penchant for mailbox money makes Shep fun to watch when he’s not railing poor Craig Conover. As much as it sometimes pains me, I find him incredibly congenial.
Not only is Shep entertaining, those of us lucky enough to live in Charleston know he is also good at finding (and funding) some excellent hot spots. His Commodore Club is a hole in the wall that boasts an eclectic vibe and amazing live music. There is often a line around the block on a Friday nights. Likewise, the Palace Hotel, which burned down last year, was a tiny, nondescript store front with bars on the windows and no sign in sight. The first time I went for dinner, I wasn’t sure if I was opening the door to a new dining experience or a Law & Order set. However, the cauliflower and pistachio tacos (yes they are a thing, and yes, they are DIVINE!) were on point. AND THEY’RE COMING BACK! Shep is dishing on the return of the Palace Hotel…but first, let’s hear his take on this season of Southern Charm!

In a chat with ET, Shep shares the details on his new digs and his latest sidekick. Of his new coastal cottage, complete with furniture – and bathrobes! – left by the previous owners, Shep shares, “I needed to get out of downtown. The good times were killing me. I’ve always wanted to live on the beach. I’m from Hilton Head Island, I’m just a chill guy.” Shep jokes, “I’m not a chill guy but I’m trying to be … the bars close here at 11:00 p.m.! So, it’s just nice.”
Discussing his self-described protege Austen Kroll, Shep reveals, “We’re two peas in a pod. From 1,000 yards you’d be like, who’s that? Shep or Austen? The problem with me and Austen is, we both like the same girls…You know, we’re both geniuses.” So basically, they are indistinguishable across the span of ten football fields. Austen serves as Craig 2.0 this season. Shep explains, “[Craig] is in a relationship. He is like an old man now. That’s why Austen is my new running mate.”
Speaking of Craig, he has his own take on Shep’s tiny epiphany. He admits, “I think you’ll see this season that Shep really has to come to terms with his lifestyle. He’s got this inner turmoil of what he’s supposed to accomplish, or where he should be in life … he’s always been happy, but now all these people around him are starting to do good things, and I think it’s making him really reflect on his life. He can’t avoid facing the consequences of his life anymore. People have always suspected that I was kind of a scapegoat for him. This year, I think you’ll see that it’s blatantly Shep yelling at himself while he’s yelling at me.”
Citing this season’s Southern Charm as “death by a thousand paper cuts,” Shep concedes, “I have my faults, and I kinda just face them this year.”

Shep tells Bravo’s Daily Dish that the Palace Hotel is going to be back in business soon. After a fire and then Hurricane Matthew, it’s been a long time coming. Shep recalls, “The hurricane came and there was a foot-and-a-half of water on the floor, which just kind of definitely pushed things back. So, we were close then this damn hurricane [came along].”
Hurdles with the city (which are necessarily abundant with any buildings or zoning downtown) added to the delay according to Shep.
“Honestly, I don’t understand. I know a lot of it is predicated upon the owner of the the building and the apartments upstairs that were damaged from the fire and inspections, just so many moving parts. And it’s very frustrating and I wish I could wave a wand, but I can’t. But, it will be back. I just know it. And when it comes back, I just think the whole town will rejoice because it was a real local favorite and had a real great quality, a very authentic place and had a great little niche in Charleston. So, anyway, it’s all good.”
But now, all is right with the world…or at least east side of Charleston! Shep shares, “Oh, it’s opening up next week. I had nothing to do with it. Nobody ever wants my help,” clarifying, “It’s offered, though. It’s on the table.” When asked if patrons could expect anything different with the reopening, Shep responds, “Same old, same old, man. I love that place. [It’s] so great. It’s belly up to the bar, first date stuff.” And it so is. I’m so excited to have that taco back in my life!

After all of the rumors, lying, and even the drugging accusations that went down between Porsha Williams and Kandi Burruss during this season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, it is not at all surprising that these two go at each other during the reunion. These two are pulling no punches and Kandi made it clear she doesn’t believe Porsha actually goes to anger management.
On a lighter note, after Andy Cohen has spent many interviews interrogating Kenya Moore about whether or not she had a boob job, Kandi admitted to getting on herself during the reunion.

A story from Bravo’s own The Daily Dish, shared some exclusive scoop about the upcoming reunion episodes.
After a viewer questioned Kandi’s own fits of rage, Andy asked her if she had an anger problem. Kandi recapped, “What I told y’all last season: don’t start nothing, there won’t be nothing.”
Plus, who would flip out after someone accused her of attempted drugging and rape on a popular reality TV show? I don’t blame Kandi for getting angry.

When Andy mentioned that Porsha was shown attending anger management sessions twice on the show, Kandi said, “Oh, OK.” She more or less accused Porsha of solely going to those sessions for filming. “Twice on the show [we’ve seen her go] — was the key word.”
Porsha insisted, “Unlike what you said in your confessions, I am actually going. Thank you.” What about when Porsha popped off on everyone during that group lunch? Then again, everyone on this show has had fits of anger – even Cynthia Bailey got violent during that boat party last season.
In more fun news, Kandi revealed she “joined the club” when the conversation turned to boob jobs. Good for her… and Todd Tucker.
