Just days after taping the Real Housewives of New York City reunion episodes, Dorinda Medley chatted up Brandi Glanville on her podcast, Brandi Glanville Unfiltered. Dorinda dished on her relationship with John Mahdessian, including why he isn’t on the show this season. She also talked about the fractured relationship between Carole Radziwill and Bethenny Frankel and why she doesn’t look forward to the break in filming between seasons.
On everyone loving Dorinda: “I hope that’s true. People say that but you never know if it’s true or not. I love the fact that I’m loved. Who doesn’t wanna be loved?” Brandi interjected, “It sucks to be hated, I’ve been there, girl.”
Dorinda added, “I try to be the voice of reason. Although I don’t succeed all the time, I try not to judge too much.
I’m a forgiver. I don’t hold grudges.”
Brandi asks about John Mahdessian not being filmed for the show this season. Dorinda explained, “John decided to take a break and I think it was healthy. John and I are great. In fact, I’m going up to the Berkshires tonight. It is so stressful, this job, sometimes. And it’s nice to have someone that’s not involved in it that you can go home to and not have to talk about it and worry about how he’s going to be perceived and what he’s gonna say and how the others are going to treat him. I just really wanted to focus on me. I didn’t want to have any distractions. and he was fine with it.”
She added, “People don’t get our relationship and I don’t need them to get it. John has never been married and has no kids.” Dorinda explains that he has no baggage like ex-wives or kids, etc. She says they are in a very happy place and both work very hard and have their own things going on. She says they get excited to see each other because they aren’t in each other’s faces around the clock.
Brandi is in a new relationship but won’t reveal names. She admits she’s still seeing the guy she told Dorinda about previously but is scared because she’s starting to have feelings for him. Dorinda advises her to be vulnerable and fall in love, which is always a difficult thing for Brandi.
Brandi then brings up red scarf guy from the speed dating episode of Real Housewives of New York City. She calls him “gross” because he’s obviously just there for the camera time. Dorinda admits that when she watched that scene she wondered WHAT they were all fighting over. “That guy?” She continued, “I can guarantee it wasn’t that serious. I mean, Carole, yeah, she went out and had a dinner with him but it’s not like she was going home crying over it.”
Dorinda thinks he seems like a fine guy but agrees he seemed thirsty and says that’s likely all the air time he’s ever going to get on RHONY.
Brandi says she’s known Carole Radziwill for a few years now and was shocked to see what’s happening on the show (with the drama between her and Bethenny Frankel) because Carole is typically so laid back and chill. Brandi says, “It’s great for me to watch because I didn’t know that she had it in her.”
Dorinda explained, “Carole has a voice this year. She’s a thinker. She’s a writer, an academic.” Dorinda says it’s good to see Carole getting vocal this time around. She then shares, “Carole is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. When she’s a friend to you, she’s a real friend to you. I really enjoyed getting closer to her. I’m like her, it takes me a while to get close to people but it’s so nice when you do because she’s a really nice confidante. She’s a positive influence.”
She continues gushing Carole’s praises, calling her a good listener who gives solid advice.
Dorinda defends Carole, “I don’t think she said anything mean. I think she was just trying to figure out what happened. I really don’t think she knew that all of this was going to happen. She was as blindsided as the rest of us.”
Brandi says, “I think it boils down to friends being jealous of other friends. You’re allowed to have more than one best friend and I think that’s what it comes down to and it’s sad to watch a friendship deteriorate. If it was me, I don’t think I could ever forgive that person. I could forgive, but I couldn’t get it back to where it was.”
Dorinda says, “I hope it’s ‘never say never’ because they had a really…. that was not a show friendship. That was a real friendship.” She also says she can’t comment on it because it’s a real friendship and not her place and that it was not a show thing. “You can feel it. It was painful.”
They shift the conversation to Ramona Singer. Brandi comments that Ramona looks AMAZING lately. “Do we have any intel on what she’s doing besides her skincare thing?”
Dorinda schools Brandi on Ramona being a bodybuilder in the 80s. Dorinda says that Ramona has really invested in her body and her health for most of her life – with exercise and eating right. “The girl works out all the time.” Brandi says, “Her body looks great, but her face looks even greater! I was watching her on Watch What Happens Live and she looks like she’s 45.”
Dorinda says “Honest to God, she hasn’t done anything. She hasn’t done anything this year different. She’s been really working out and taking care of her skin.” Dorinda says they took photos side by side at the reunion taping and everyone was gushing over how incredible Ramona looks. Brandi admits that they had a night out together and they did not hit off, “so I don’t have a lot of great things to say about her, but whatever she is eating and drinking, I want to do that.”
Dorinda says people think Ramona is wacky but she really has her shit together, with her health/body and her businesses, etc.
Brandi points out that RHONY finally showed Dorinda going to church. Dorinda shared, “you know that church is a big part of my life. I couldn’t have gotten through what I got through without it. I don’t talk about it a lot on the show because I don’t have to, it’s not something I need. It’s stabilizing. Some people meditate, some people go to yoga.” She continues, “I grew up with it. My mother goes to church every day of her life. For me to go to church once a week, that stabilizes me.”
They then get to the reunion gossip. Dorinda shared, “It was a long day as usual. You not only film it, which is painful, then you have to rewatch it and then you have to relive the whole thing again at the reunion. Everybody has a different perspective of what they saw. We did the usual ‘tough it out’. It was emotional. I felt exhausted and went to see my trainer and my muscles hurt because I was tense the whole day!”
Brandi relates to that and says how brutal is because they are sitting on those couches for 12 hours under hot lights and people are crying. “I always say I get PTSD from reunions.”
Dorinda says “and you have to not look too crazy, not look too emotional. Listen, we made it through. Can I tell you the truth? I’m so in the moment that someone asked me about it yesterday and I don’t even remember everything.”
She says she always goes in hoping for resolution and sometimes you get it and sometimes you don’t.
Dorinda shared that she sometimes gets really depressed after filming is over. She says she’s lonely for a couple of weeks after it. She says the cast really is friends and talk to each other during their filming breaks.
Carole Radziwill will not return next season on RHONY
