Robyn Dixon On Her Failed Lunch With Karen Huger: “Her Usual Defensiveness And Deflection Tactics Took Over”
A shady financial situation always guarantees a great story line on any Real Housewives show. So of course, the Season 3 premiere episode of Real Housewives of Potomac was all about Karen Huger’s deflection over her husband Ray Huger’s very public $3 million tax debt.
It all culminated in a sit-down lunch with Karen and Robyn Dixon. Karen wanted to thank Robyn for being there for her – after pointing out that she called Gizelle Bryant first and she didn’t answer the phone- but the lunch did not go well. Robyn made it clear that she does have sympathy for Karen and her family, but she can’t help questioning just how much Karen actually knew. And of course, Karen went ballistic, got overly defensive, and did what she could to deflect from the topic of discussion.
In her first Bravo blog post of the season, Robyn confessed, “I was totally shocked and saddened to hear about the Hugers’ tax debt. I understand the stress of experiencing financial difficulties and owing a large amount of taxes, but nothing anywhere near the magnitude of what Karen and Ray are facing. Hopefully, they have everything under control and are able to work towards a resolution.”
As sympathetic as Robyn was, she couldn’t help admitting, “I must say though, upon hearing about this tax news, one of my immediate thoughts was, ‘Oh, that finally explains the sudden and mysterious move from Potomac to Great Falls.'” Yes, it does.
Robyn revealed, “Ultimately, Karen and I talked for 2 hours and 46 minutes.” She also acknowledged, “Karen told me that she had called Gizelle first, so hearing her say that I was the ‘one that picked up’ was not a surprise.” That’s just textbook Karen: shading someone for helping her just to take the heat off her for a millisecond.
And then Robyn addressed that failed lunch. She wrote, “What was intended to be an open and honest conversation with Karen about my conflicting thoughts about her tax situation — between being 100% sympathetic and also unsure of how truthful she was being — completely went left! I wanted to be honest with Karen and let her know that although I was happy to be there as a friend for her, I wasn’t sure if everything she told me was the truth, specifically that she did not know anything about the huge tax debt.” Let’s hook her up to a polygraph. All signs do indicate that Karen was very much aware of the tax situation, but I would love to put this to rest, and start focusing on some other drama.
Robyn explained, “To me, everything started to make sense: the sudden move, Karen’s defensiveness when anyone questioned her about the move, and the huge tax debt. It all fit together like a perfect puzzle!” Yes, it did.
Karen accused Robyn of stabbing her in the back just for saying that the two of them spoke on the phone. Robyn didn’t reveal any specific information about the tax debt, but it doesn’t matter because I’m sure that everyone in the cast read every article about it. Robyn wrote, “Karen thinking that I stabbed her in the back by discussing the news with the other ladies was totally unrealistic. When news like that is made public, of course people are going to talk about it!”
Robyn continued, “And after a nearly 3-hour conversation with Karen, I could have spilled the beans about a lot more of what she said. I didn’t see the harm in saying that she didn’t know about the taxes. However, I can respect the fact that this is a very sensitive situation for Karen, and maybe I could have approached the situation a little more delicately.”
Karen blessed the fandom with an inadvertently humorous moment when she told Robyn that she didn’t know what a blog was…even though she writes one for Bravo after every episode and she’s been a cast member on this show since Season 1. Robyn theorized, “I think I sent Karen into a tailspin, and her usual defensiveness and deflection tactics took over.”
Karen’s financial woes were definitely the focus of the episode, but the fans did get to see a little bit of Robyn and Juan Dixon’s perpetually vague relationship. Robyn shared, “Juan and I are doing very well. Once we got to a place where our finances were not as stressful and money and business were not the only things we talked about, we were able to focus on other things like spending time together and enjoying life as a family. We are still very much a work in progress, but our family bond remains strong as we raise our boys together.”

Cynthia Bailey Had A Tumor Removed; Reunion Episodes Start Tonight
The Real Housewives of Atlanta members are caught up arguing about John Legend tickets, bugs in the bathroom, and who looked best in her Halloween costume.
Don’t get me wrong, most of that does amount to entertaining television, but it is all admittedly trivial stuff. The (lack of) seriousness of those story lines is all put in perspective given the news that Cynthia Bailey went through surgery to remove a tumor.
Cynthia discussed her surgery to remove a benign tumor in an interview with Us Weekly. She revealed, “I noticed a slight raised lump on my back near my lefty shoulder blade about 2 months ago. At first I thought I had been bitten by something, or it was just back fat. A couple of weeks later, I noticed that it was still there & seemed to be growing.”
She shared, “I went to the doctor and was told that it was lymphoma, a fatty tumor.” Cynthia admitted, “I was scared because as soon as I heard the word ‘tumor,’ I immediately thought cancer.”
Cynthia explained, “Surgery went well, however it went much longer than expected because the tumor was embedded very deeply in my back & partially under a muscle.” She added, “It was also larger than expected. In the end, thankfully all the lymphoma was removed successfully and it is benign.”
Before the Us Weekly Interview, Cynthia posted a selfie on March 29 with the caption “Early doctor appointment today. Had a little health scare. Thankfully I’m ok.”
On April 3, Cynthia posted a photo of a balloon with the caption “Grateful surgery went well this morning & was so happy my mom was there with me. Came home to this beautiful balloon from @ohlalacompany_. Thank you for thinking of me. I’m feeling good #healthiswealth #speedyrecovery.”
On April 4, Cynthia shared a photo of some flowers and balloons with the caption, “Thanks for the beautiful flowers. Meant a lot coming from you. I am feeling better today. Thanks for the love & well wishes you guys.”
On April 5, Cynthia shared, “Feeling MUCH better today & the love just keeps coming! Thank you my friend.” Thank god.

Ashley Darby Says “It Is Clear That Karen & Ray Huger Can’t Be Taken At Face Value”; Discusses Her Relationship With Michael Darby
I tuned into the Season 3 premiere episode of Real Housewives of Potomac dying to know what went down behind the scenes with Karen Huger’s financial situation, her husband Ray Huger’s $3 million dollar tax debt, and their sudden move to Great Falls after two seasons of bragging about being the self-proclaimed “Grand Dame of Potomac.”
Karen’s delusions of grandeur- and not knowing what a blog is- gave me the entertainment that I expected, but we were also hit with some raw emotions watching Ashley Darby pack up her apartment to move back in with her estranged husband Michael Darby. The realness of Ashley and Michael trying to salvage their marriage was in stark contrast to the Huger family fakery.
In her first Bravo blog post of the season, Ashley discussed her separation period from Michael. She shared, “I never considered how much happens in six months until a time clock was placed on my relationship. We had begun that necessary time for separation before divorce, living apart in separate homes, and I experienced a different side of life. For many years I’d been in love and committed to a relationship with another person, meaning I thought of myself as a part of a unit. All of a sudden I felt like Forrest Gump without Bubba, and it was a foreign feeling.” Aaaww.
Ashley continued, “During my soul searching and time of reflection, I realized that I deeply love Michael. Stripping away the factors like family, the restaurant, and our egos I saw a pure love between us. We have been through so much and I didn’t want to throw it away. In my heart I felt it was worth it to give it another try, and thankfully Michael was on the same page.”
One of the major issues that the couple faces is Ashley’s insistence on financially supporting her mother. Ashley admitted, “Of course, it gets a little challenging for us, but being family isn’t always easy. We are living proof of that, and I’m always going to keep trying. It’s not easy for me to be in the middle of these two powerful personalities – at times it is pretty difficult – and it’s forced me to find my own voice louder than I ever have before. It hasn’t been an easy road for me at all, but to find a loving balance between my mom and husband is a tightrope I am willing to walk.”
Of course Ashley had to address Karen and Ray’s tax debt and their move to Great Falls. Ashley shared, “I was in Ibiza when the news of the Huger Tax debacle broke, and I was instantly shocked – like, literally reading the article with my mouth wide open. It was surprising because Karen can front and deflect with the best of ’em, and while I’ve tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, it is clear that Karen and Ray can’t be taken at face value.” Sad, but true. Even with reality TV cameras recording their every move and reputable news outlets sharing their tax records, they refuse to acknowledge the truth, and continue deflecting.
Ashley wrote, “Just as we all suspected, the abrupt hustle to Great Falls was a calculated move that had ulterior motives. If anything, I hope Karen and Ray can get on the same page about whether or not Karen had any knowledge about the potential tax issues for legality’s sake.” Shade thrown, but also a very valid point.
Karen opened up to Robyn Dixon about her financial troubles and she invited her out to lunch so she could thank her listening during a time of need, but that didn’t go well. Obviously. Karen was upset that Robyn told Monique Samuels and Charrisse Jackson-Jordan that they spoke on the phone about her family’s financial problems. Robyn didn’t really reveal any specific information and she didn’t have to. All of the specific information was splashed all over the Washington Post and various websites.
Plus, it’s not like they just randomly asked her about it. This is a reality TV show. They are required to discuss what is going on their lives and their cast mate’s lives. They were probably prompted to start that conversation by someone behind the scenes.
Karen has much bigger problems than Monique and Charrisse having knowledge of a very public situation. Ashley admitted, “While Robyn and I don’t always see eye to eye, I don’t understand why Karen got upset that Charrisse and Monique learned about the phone conversation.” She also said, “While it’s understandable that Karen is sensitive about her situation, she has to take an assessment of when she is being overly sensitive.” Agreed completely.
The best part about that conversation with Robyn is that she claimed to know what a blog was. Really? She has been writing a Bravo blog post for the past two seasons, yet she “doesn’t know” what a blog is.
Ashley said, “All I heard was Karen backpedaling, as she has so often done. As far as I hope, Karen hasn’t been living under a rock so she knows what a blog is. I’m sure that when the Washington Post was mentioning her name for attending a charity gala or two, Karen was a huge fan of the Post. Now that her family’s missteps were highlighted it’s convenient to throw shade at a credible newspaper that I’m sure she once praised.” Shade. Thrown.
