Why RHONJ Fans Yearn for the Good Old Days

True RHONJ fans miss the early years of the show.

Just like most of my readers, I am a forever fan of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. What started a simple added city exploited in a cult following. I have never missed an episode, even during the season we tried to forget (I’m looking at you, Season 6 and Season 7). As Season 11 started up, I felt like the Garden State franchise was finally picking up momentum again. The series had once again found a good cast, humor, fun, and the right level of drama. But after Season 13 concluded, I just couldn’t kick the feeling we had entered a dark era with RHONJ. Now, more often than not, I find myself wishing for the good old days with the rest of the OG RHONJ fans.

Family matters to RHONJ fans

When Season 1 first aired in 2009, the Real Housewives of New Jersey was all about family. At the time most of the actual class was related. And if they weren’t blood relatives, they had strong friendship bonds. The nostalgia that the first few seasons delivered was unparalleled and currently has us yearning for the good old days. The warm lighting of the Jersey dinner helped each scene feel more intimate, especially when Teresa Giudice screamed “Prostitution Whore” at the top of her lungs.

I would dare to argue that the quality of casting was higher, which, in turn, made the show more watchable. It all came down to a whole lot more realness and a lot less thirst. The early seasons were back in a time when Dina Manzo was meant to be the main character, supplemented by Caroline Manzo as her big sister/the muscle. Teresa was the class clown. Jaqueline Laurita was Switzerland. And Danielle Staub was the antagonist. The characters just worked.

What happened, RHONJ fans want to know!

The women don’t feel like friends anymore let alone people who care about what happens to the other. Hell, they don’t even care to be acquaintances. There are currently zero stakes in this group. The severe lack of chemistry is bringing the franchise down and, in turn, is driving away loyal viewers. Right now, it feels like the show is more about competing to get camera time. The women are willing to say and do just about anything to make sure they stay in that limelight. And while that may be just fine for the network I never agreed to watch a show about drawing first blood.

Watching Season 14 has been hard; almost like a breakup. More and more, it feels like each woman has their agenda. Melissa Gorga not speaking to Teresa is a calculated move. Of course, she probably wishes she could have a Lisa Barlow hot mic moment but she is currently taking the high ground. The last straw for me was the lack of reunion. Instead, we are getting the two sides’ opinions on the final Rails scene. Honestly, I’ll pass. The fact that none of these women can stand each other long enough to film a reunion is pathetic.

It has become painfully obvious that my fellow RHONJ fans and I will not be getting the good old days of the Real Housewives of New Jersey like we once hoped. At this rate, I am not even sure that this particular group of women could pull it off. So now, like many other viewers, I am leaning towards a total reboot. Instead of a total rehaul, let’s have Bravo gradually start to introduce one or two each year as they slowly replace the OGs who have put the network in a chokehold.

I have to face the facts. The current format of the Bravo series is no longer a viable option. Let’s go back to the roots of what once made the show great: a solid cast with real friendships, marriages, comedic timing, and, of course, real drama within their lives.

I miss being able to tune in and feel instantly and emotionally connected to the women on my screen. I want to root for them. I don’t want to have to head down to my local race track to bet money on their physical brawls. Until that happens, I will begrudgingly still be watching Season 14 and supplementing my disappointment with binging Season 1.

Have Statler Riley and Dempsey Wilkinson Been Removed From 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6?

Statler Riley and Dempsey Wilkinson are scheduled to appear on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6, but will plans change? The 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days alums will be one of two returning couples this season. Statler and Riley made their 90 Day Fiancé debut on Before The 90 Days Season 6 when they met for the first time. Despite a rocky trip in England, Statler announced during the Tell All that she planned to move to Europe soon.

The Other Way Season 6 trailer confirmed that Statler indeed made the move. However, it seems like Statler’s future with Dempsey could be in jeopardy. The Season 6 preview shows the women giving van life a try, which they first discussed during the Tell All. While Dempsey seems thrilled to participate in nomad life, Statler looks as if she is having second thoughts. Later on in the trailer, the women get into a fight where Dempsey goes as far as suggesting a break-up.

Recent events have made it unclear where Statler and Dempsey stand, with one another as well as the franchise. Will the ladies return to our screens at all during The Other Way Season 6? Here’s everything we know so far.

Statler Riley recently called out Dempsey Wilkinson on Instagram

A few weeks ago, Statler took to her Instagram account to throw shade at Dempsey. This came shortly after the ladies were announced as returning cast members for The Other Way Season 6. Statler is notorious in the 90 Day Fiancé universe for being chaotic on social media, but these posts felt different.

Statler’s first cryptic post was a story that featured a photo of her, Dempsey, and one of Dempsey’s friends. In a long caption, Statler wrote that Dempsey had been cheating on her with her supposed friend. Statler also referred to Dempsey as her ex, which seems to have clearly indicated that they are no longer together. Furthermore, Statler claimed that she found out about Dempsey’s infidelity during filming, but didn’t expose it to protect her.

In a second post, Statler explained that Dempsey was currently living in a van that Statler allegedly paid for. Statler said that she wasn’t able to afford her own home, as a result of going into debt over the van. In Statler’s final post, she posted a picture of Dempsey taking a photo of the van. Statler captioned the story, “the scam artist with her prize.”

Dempsey didn’t respond to Statler’s claims

Dempsey, on the other hand, has remained silent on social media amid Statler’s allegations. Despite Statler’s very serious claims, it seems Dempsey has chosen not to respond at all for the time being. This could be due to Dempsey not wanting to break her NDA, which is something that Statler doesn’t seem to take seriously.

Statler and Dempsey are currently not following one another on Instagram, but they haven’t erased each other completely. Statler’s account still has multiple pictures of Dempsey, which is confusing given the recent events. While Dempsey doesn’t have any posts where Statler is in the first photo, she does have several photos of her in posts with multiple pictures.

Will Statler and Dempsey still appear on The Other Way Season 6?

After Statler’s cryptic Instagram posts, some viewers wondered if Statler and Dempsey would be removed from The Other Way. Statler all but confirmed that she and Dempsey have broken up, which would make their storyline almost pointless to watch. TLC has removed storylines in the past, so it wouldn’t be impossible for them to do it again. However, since this would leave only five couples, it could end up taking away from the season.

Neither Statler nor Dempsey are in the description for the premiere episode, but that doesn’t mean they were removed. On every 90 Day Fiancé season, some of the couples are introduced later than others. Furthermore, Statler indicated on Instagram that she is excited to roast Sarper Guven at the Tell All. This suggests that Statler and Dempsey will film Tell All, which likely means that viewers will watch their story play out this season.

Despite a messy feud on social media, all the signs point toward Statler and Dempsey still being on The Other Way Season 6. With that being said, it will be interesting to see if all of this chaos will be addressed at the Tell All.
