Exclusive Interview With The Winner Of Survivor: Millennial vs Gen-X, Adam Klein

Survivor winner Adam

Survivor winner Adam

Adam Klein became the 32nd person to ever win Survivor last night, winning a unanimous final vote over Hannah and Ken. Adam’s journey towards victory was one of the most emotional the game has ever seen, with the fact that Adam was playing the game while his mom suffered from lung cancer, and as we learned last night, succumbed to the illness just one hour after Adam returned home from the season.

I had the chance to chat with Adam today about his time in the game, his story, and his take on this season and all-things Survivor. Click continue reading for the full transcript.

Tom Santilli, RealityTea.com: Hey man! How are you and congratulations!

Adam:  My voice is a little hoarse by this point with all of the interviews today, but I’m doing great, this is a dream come true.

Tom: So you’re going to blame your sore throat on the interviews and not on the Survivor after party last night, huh?

Adam: (Laughs) Um, what after-party? I don’t know what you’re talking about. (laughs)

Tom: Well hey, congratulations again. Your story, obviously, was one of the most emotional stories we’ve ever seen on the show from a winner, but I loved what you said at last night’s Live Reunion Show, that for you, this is not a reality show, this is not a “storyline.” This is your real life. If you could just expand on that, because I thought that was a great perspective to bring up to the audience.

Adam: So I’m on the Survivor sub-Reddit, you know. I read all the articles. I read your stuff, and all of the articles. And I see some of the comments online already where people are like, oh Adam, why does he keep talking about his mom? This story is old, we’ve already heard it. But of course I’m talking about it, because that is my life. That’s what matters the most to me. And everything I did in the game was in that context. It’s not just a story on TV, those were real emotions, and they still are, that I’m actually going through.

I mean some people just don’t realize, my mom actually had Stage-4 lung cancer, and this is my best friend, and I’m actually going through these human emotions. Some people, maybe they just haven’t experienced loss in their lives. I think most people get that I’m going through something very real. And it was my story during the time I was on Survivor.  I absolutely think that it was irrelevant in terms of me winning the game, I think I win the game with or without that story, and I think the rest of the jury members would corroborate that. But this was what my truth was out there. I mean, I may have set the record for the most tears ever shed on Survivor.

Tom: That’s quite possible, quite possible. Does it surprise you at all, though, that people watching Survivor have been conditioned so much with all the lying and backstabbing, that when they hear real stories like this, their first inclination is to think that you’re using it for sympathy or as some sort of a game move?

Adam: No, because people are going to say what they want to say. It is hurtful. But in the end, I know that what I was doing out there was real. I was building real bonds and real connections with people, and I was playing a very strategic game. Some people want to separate those things, but they’re all connected. Yeah, like when I decided not to play my Reward Advantage, it was 100% genuine in that I did not want to steal someone’s Loved Ones or other reward. But it can also be the right strategic move. It can be both. I knew that there was a very good chance that it would win me some favor, and whoever I gave the advantage to would likely take me along with them. That was a risk of course, as Jay did not necessarily have to take me, but it was also human. Right? So you can’t separate it.

Tom: Going into Final Tribal Council, did you have any feeling that you were going to win? And what was your ideal Final Three as the game went along and you were down to seven or six people left?

Adam: As soon as the last Dave vote was read, I had felt very confident that I had just won the game. I went into Tribal Council feeling very confident, and I left Tribal Council feeling even more confident. From pretty much the beginning of the merge, I knew that I had wanted to go to Final Three with Ken and Hannah. I was also very tight with Jessica, we had sort of an across-the-aisle deal with Bret, where my side wouldn’t target him and his side wouldn’t target me. There were some other combinations of people that I maybe wanted to go to the end with, but I thought that Ken and Hannah were the surest combination in terms of my ability to win the game.

Tom: As you may now know, you are now only the fifth winner ever to win the game with a unanimous vote.

Adam: Crazy.

Tom: You felt like you were going to win, but did the fact that it was unanimous come as a surprise at all? Were there any votes you weren’t sure of or were surprised to know that they voted for you?

Adam: I honestly felt really, really good leaving the last Tribal Council. Everyone had given me a question and an opportunity to really show them…I mean, Final Tribal went on for a lot longer than you see on TV, and I was able to articulate, step by step, every decision that I made throughout the entire game and why it made sense for me at the time. And sure, there were times where I wasn’t necessarily in control in terms of deciding exactly who was going home, but often times that was deliberate. Like when Sunday went home. That was a deliberate decision to take a step back. Because like I had stated at the previous Tribal Council, the people who kept stepping up and saying, this has to go my way, they would become the biggest threat in the game and they would get their heads chopped. So I would take a step up and take a step back, take a step up and take a step back. But I was never the biggest threat in the game.

But with the votes, I felt pretty confident with most of the votes. There was Jessica, who even though we were aligned in the game, I know she was very close with Ken, and I know that it hurt her a little bit at Final Tribal that I told her that Ken and Hannah were my ideal Final Three. Because had I ended up voting out Jessica, that would have been a betrayal of sorts. I would have loved to have gone to the end with her, but my family comes first. But besides Jessica, I was pretty confident with everybody else’s vote.

RELATED: Check Out Tom’s Review Of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Tom: Hannah had come into that Final Tribal Council with guns a-blazin’. She was very confident and tried convincing the jury that she had been in control often times, and that you were more of a coattail rider. Did Hannah’s forcefulness at this Tribal take you off-guard at all? And was there any truth to what she was saying, or was this just Hannah’s perspective of her own game?

Adam: I absolutely did not take any offense  at her coming at me, I’m glad she did it, because I was happy to come back at her and I felt like I had a very strong argument to make, in terms of why some of her strategic decisions may not have been the best. And how I had then recovered from those decisions. But I love and respect Hannah so much, she loves the game and played the game so hard. I think Hannah’s only miscalculation in the game was that she didn’t see how much respect I had from the people we were putting on the jury. I had very strong relationships that she just wasn’t seeing. I was intentionally hiding them from her, and I knew that we both wanted to go to the end together, because she thought she could beat me in the end. That was made obvious when she voted out Sunday. Because Sunday was someone that I thought Hannah might have had a chance against in the end. About being in strategic control, I actually agree with a lot of what she said at Final Tribal. When she was like, Adam is trying to take credit for all of my moves, I was like, no, no, no, no, absolutely not. I will take joint credit for the moves that we made together, but there were some moves that you decided to make on your own, and those were the moves that almost cost all of us the game. One of them was the Bret vote, which I think was a huge mistake from her perspective.

Tom: I ask this of every winner, but trying to take a step back, where do you think your game ranks among the all-time Survivor Winners?

Adam: Well I think Tyson and I are in a special category of winners, where we had to pull a rock, right? Each of us had a specific spot in the game that you could point to, where luck absolutely had to be on our side in order for us to get to the end. I definitely think that for me, going to rocks was the right move and the right decision, because I was demonstrating loyalty. And there was this incorrect perception of me at the time, that I was this schemer or flip-flopper, or whatever, but that night I showed everybody that I was there to play this game with my alliance. And for all the talk about voting blocs and all of that stuff, it was a distraction away from the fact of what I believed to be a solid alliance of six. And all the talk at Tribal Councils was to confuse everybody else into thinking that there was still room for movement. So I think I played a loyal game to the alliance that I had put together, consisting of people that I thought I could beat in the end, I had very strong relationships.

I think it made for great television the way they portrayed me as having sort of a little downfall in the game, with the mistake of telling Taylor too much information, and the show made it look like it would be my downfall in the game, and that I would be voted out next or soon after or whatever. But in reality, in the actual game, I was not in danger. I had a strong alliance and while people talked in passing about, oh Adam is tough to work with, like Zeke, he never seriously considered voting me out. So I was able to play this game riding the middle, lifting people up as threats that had to be taken out before me and also recognizing the hierarchy of the group, to know who I would be able to beat in the end.

So all of those things considered, I feel like I played a very strong strategic game. I think that the edit of the show showed some moments that I did not have very strong social connections, but I think the final vote shows that I did have strong social connections and that I was playing a very strong social game.

Tom: This was a great season of all-new players, but we saw last night that next season will consist of all returning players. I know this is an ongoing online debate in the Survivor community, where some love all-new player seasons and hate returning player seasons, and vice versa. You’re a super-fan…where do you fall in this debate?

Adam: Well of course, leading up to Season 33, I of course wanted all seasons to be all-new player seasons, and now post-Season 33 I think all seasons should be returning player seasons. (laughs) But no, some of my favorite seasons, like my top two favorite seasons are Pearl Islands and Cagayan, and they’re both all-new player seasons. Well I mean, I guess these are my favorite seasons, not counting Millennials vs. Gen-X of course.

Tom: Well hey Adam, to win Survivor is an amazing achievement, but to do it over this amazing cast of super-competitive, likable people is even more special. Congratulations man and thank you for sharing your life with us.

Adam: Thank you. I’m so honored to have been a part of what I consider to be a really special cast, a really warm-hearted, special group of people. If any of your audience wants to donate to help with lung cancer research, the link to do so is www.Su2c.org/Survivor.

Jax Taylor Says LaLa Kent Was Fired From Vanderpump Rules & Lied About Quitting

Lala confronts James

Lala confronts James

There has been so much talk about LaLa Kent’s exit from Vanderpump Rules. To be honest it was kind of confusing since I heard SO many times that she was off the show, yet see her promoting it on her social media accounts and in interviews. Obviously she is not liked by most of her cast members, but I figured the controversy would be welcomed on the show. One of (the many) people who is happy to have LaLa off the show is Jax Taylor, who is adamant that LaLa was fired.

LaLa has done a lot of interviews about how she was done with the show, she had better things to do, she didn’t want to be in that environment, and whatever else she said was going on with her “career,” so it really did seem like she quit the show, but Jax says that she is lying. Imagine that: Jax calling someone else a liar. Talk about some credibility issues there.

CLICK “CONTINUE READING” FOR MORE!

Jax hasn’t wanted LaLa around ever since she blew up his spot and revealed to his angel of a girlfriend Brittany Cartwright that Jax was hitting on her, not the other way around. From that point on, Jax was adamant about LaLa being an awful person- feel free to laugh at loud about that one.

RELATED: Kristen Doute Glosses Over Slut Shaming Lala Kent

Don’t get me wrong, I weirdly do love Jax. As much as he lies about pretty much everything, I still find him to be a pretty endearing TV character. But anyway, Jax couldn’t leave well enough alone. This is not shocking though. No one in the cast wants LaLa to get the last word on anything. They pretty much all hate her aside from Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, and James Kennedy.

When a fan tweeted Jax to ask, “Did Lala really quit??????,” Jax quoted the tweeted and responded with, “Umm no.. they kicked her off, just more of her lies.” Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past any of these people to lie to save face, but I still find it hilarious that Jax of all people is calling anyone out for dishonesty.

Spencer Pratt of all people tweeted, “Lemme get her spot,” Jax used that as an excuse to call out LaLa as well. Jax quoted that tweet and wrote, “Umm sweet heart you got kicked off a long time ago. What a joke this is.” – complete with a crying laughter emoji, of course.

RELATED: Lala Kent Says Co-Stars Tried To Sabotage Her Career

I really don’t think it matters if LaLa quit or got fired. I actually did like watching her on the show and giving that mean girl clique something to deal with, but the truth is that she never fit in with that group of people, not even as an adversary. Aside from working at SUR, it just seems like the mix of LaLa and the other cast members is way too forced.

Erika Girardi Dishes On The Drama At Dorit Kemsley’s Party & That Infamous T-Shirt Dress

Erika Girardi

Erika Girardi

It is so awkward watching the interactions between Erika Girardi and Dorit Kemsley so far this season on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills when we all know hat they are eventually going to clash. They seemed to get along…until Dorit clearly didn’t approve of the Erika Jayne t-shirt dress outfit. Not even a Chanel cosmetic bag (with gift receipt attached) was going to give Erika a chance at a warm reception from Dorit and that was only the beginning of the awkwardness at the event. Of course, Lisa Vanderpump got into it with Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson.

If I had a husband like PK Kemsley throwing me a dope party, the last thing I would care about would be the way someone else was dressed. Sure, the outfit wasn’t Dorit’s taste, but Erika did look hot. Dorit should have been wrapped up in other things at her own birthday party, but then again there’s no way she’s going to stay on this show if she doesn’t involve herself in any drama. And what better way to make an impact than by starting rivalry with the second newest cast member? Eek. I’m scared for Dorit, but I cannot wait to watch Erika gobble her up and spit her out.

CLICK “CONTINUE READING” FOR MORE!

I have no idea why anyone would come for Erika. First off, she is actually nice to everyone. Second, she is fiercely witty so it would be an uphill battle – that’s for sure. But apparently, Dorit does not view things the way I do. And of course, even when Erika has the right to hate on the newest cast member, she doesn’t even do so in her blog about the last episode. Erika is the only one who manages to make her points without getting angry and overdoing it.

But of course, Erika addressed Dorit’s dismay with her outfit selection, ” Dorit says the invitation for her party called for ‘stunning’—and with these pumps, this hair, and this fresh-off-the-runway Moschino dress, that’s exactly what she got.”

RELATED: Eileen Davidson Is Over Addressing Lisa Vanderpump

I mean if the dress code really did just say “stunning,” that’s truly a vague description and Erika really did no harm. If there was something specified about black tie, formal, or any other conventional words, then I could see why Dorit would be offended. But honestly, it just seems to me like the party could not have been that fun if the birthday girl herself was so caught up on someone else’s outfit. Clearly, she had a lot of time on her hands.

Without even calling Dorit out specifically, Erika expertly shaded her when she added, “But then again, not everyone can appreciate the same on-point fashion moments.” Ain’t that the truth? Plus, Dorit’s dislike of Erika’s outfit gave it more attention. In fact, I don’t think I would have given the dress a second look, if Dorit didn’t disapprove and turn it into a story line. Erika won that battle without even doing a thing.

Erika couldn’t talk about Dorit’s party without mentioning the lingering issues between the other cast members. “It’s interesting to watch Rinna and Eileen interact with LVP given the obvious tension left over from last season.” Yeah, that was honestly the only “interesting” part of the episode.

Being the sage woman that she is (at least in my eyes), Erika played the politically correct card when she wrote, “It can be hard to let go of hurtful disagreements, but I’m hoping to see them move forward soon.” Same. I really don’t care if they get along or not, but at the very least I would love for them to move forward on to some new drama at the very least.

And thankfully someone is addressing Lisa Vanderpump’s “joke” about Eileen’s husband Vincent Van Patten being up other women’s skirts at the party. That could have been humorous if Lisa said it to any of the other women, but it was so obvious that Lisa was trying to be mean to Eileen. It was ridiculous and she really look petty AF for such a random comment.

RELATED: Erika Girardi Says Dorit Kemlsey Has A Problem With Her

Unfortunately, Erika didn’t completely condemn LVP for her remark, but she did say,”I do think Lisa’s comment about Vinny did in fact hurt Eileen’s feelings, and I hate seeing that. But we are here to celebrate Dorit tonight and that’s just want I am going to do. Happy 40th!” And look at Erika, even after a season with dramatic moments of Erika vs. Dorit, she still is a class act wishing the woman with an ever-changing fake accent a happy birthday.

I feel like if I didn’t see previews for this season, I might like Dorit, but knowing that she squares off against Erika more than once, really puts a bad taste in my mouth. I am all about Erika – and Dorit’s constant bragging about her friendship with Boy George, the beyond annoying accent, and lack of story line so far really aren’t helping me become a Dorit fan.

TELL US – DO YOU THINK ERIKA WAS IN THE WRONG FOR HER OUTFIT CHOICE AT DORIT’S PARTY? DO YOU LIKE DORIT SO FAR?

Bethenny Frankel Loves Carole Radziwill So Much, She Would Leave RHONY Before She Leaves Carole

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 13: Carole Radziwill (L) and Bethenny Frankel attend Us Weekly's Most Stylish New Yorkers 2016 at Vandal on September 13, 2016 in New York City. (Photo by D Dipasupil/Getty Images for Us Weekly )

Bethenny Frankel and Carole Radziwill

The best friendship between Bethenny Frankel and Carole Radziwill came out of nowhere and now I feel like it’s omnipresent. The clinginess loyalty has been a source of annoyance for most of the Real Housewives of New York cast members over the past couple seasons, but the two of them don’t seem to care. In fact, Bethenny prioritizes their BFF status over being on the show.

Damn. That’s a lot to say. Sure, Bethenny is a great businesswoman and all that, but the show really ups her profile and keeps her products visible. And to be honest, Carole has not been a major part of the show for a while. She has had basically no story line other than her pets, so I wouldn’t be shocked if she got the boot at some point in the near future. I wonder what Bethenny would do if Carole left RHONY. I mean Carole really doesn’t seem at all amused hanging out with these women.

CLICK “CONTINUE READING” FOR MORE!

Bethenny does not share much of her personal life these days, but the one thing that she will gush about – aside from the many products that she promotes – is her friendship with Carole. In an interview with The Daily Dish, Bethenny explained just how much Carole means to her when she admitted, “Carole’s amazing. I would leave the show before I would leave Carole.” Those are some strong words to have on the record, but that’s some fierce loyalty – something that is sadly rare in most of these reality TV “friendships,” which are usually just contractual obligations to hang out.

Bethenny said something that I – and most other viewers – would ever say: “Carole is the best thing of the entire show for me.” It’s nice that Bethenny has a good friend on the show – don’t get me wrong – but I am so bored by Carole. I feel like, she has to be different in a one-on-one setting than she is in front of the reality TV cameras. Or at least I hope so.

About the event where Bravo caught up with the RHONY stars, Bethenny said, “She’s my real friend. We definitely get into it. We are different personalities. The fact that Carole woke up and came here at 7 o’clock [in the morning] and was here before me, I think, that’s like a lunar eclipse. That would be like me keeping my mouth shut for a half an hour. Carole getting up at 7 in the morning is like me being quiet for a half an hour.”

With my joking aside about Carole‘s boring presence on the show, she really does seem like a ride or die friend to Bethenny. Good for them both. Loyal friends are hard to find. Selfishly, I just wish it was more exciting on the show.

Lisa Vanderpump Admits Her Vinny Skirt Comment Was Wildly Inappropriate; Defends Her Sense Of Humor

In this week’s blog, Lisa Vanderpump ponders the questions of how to move forward with Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson after last season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She admits she may have been inappropriate with her humor and is a bit skeptical of her co-stars.

She starts off commending PK for the job well done on Dorit‘s birthday party. She says it was hard to navigate the event with Eileen and Rinna present. “I had already encountered Lisa and Eileen a week previously. We acknowledged each other briefly, but it was a fairly benign interaction and little conversation had taken place. What is one to do in these situations? What is the perfect remedy to moving ahead and having some sort of civility between you when previously it had been so ugly? I don’t have the answer, but I stand resolute in the fact that I can’t be hypocritical…”

Lisa admits that maybe her humor is a little too provocative but she still can’t believe that Eileen was fishing for yet another apology over something from so long ago. “I live my life coupled with humor, and as I watch this episode, I know that maybe sometimes I am too provocative in my running commentary as I maneuver my way through the party, but I was absolutely earnest in my offer of condolences to Eileen initially. Her mother had passed and regardless of the tension between us, I was sincere in my acknowledgement of her grief.” She continues, “When she remarked that she believed I was possibly going to apologize again, I was incredulous and exasperated by the fact she could possibly conjure up the notion of a possibility of me apologizing again, after the endless litany of apologies I proffered last year. In the world I live in, it is not necessary to keep repeating the same scenario over and over again, as if to tweak a performance until it measures up, so to speak.”

On her interaction with Lisa Rinna at the birthday party, “Rinna approached me in a vaguely conciliatory manner, informing me of something I was well aware of…”She was hard on me.” No…surely not, being called an evil, manipulative liar, too funny. Of course she wants to move on. I would too if I had challenged a friendship with no regard for the history between us.”

RELATED: LVP SAYS LISA RINNA ISN’T PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK

On that cheeky comment to Eileen about Vinny having his head up someone’s skirt, “Yes, I was wildly inappropriate in a jesting manner when I uttered the retort to Eileen regarding Vinny, most definitely a retort to see if we could actually go a whole season dwelling on something I had said…but I think she was wise to me. She knew I was looking for a reaction, and she wasn’t going to give me the satisfaction of rising to the bait. Goody, maybe there was hope for us after all. Maybe we could indulge in playful banter and relax a little.”

Lisa promises quite a roller coaster season, “The road to the finale is full of twists and turns, but we had an amazing experience traveling together and investing in each other’s lives. The dynamic changes with the integration of a new friend and actions are sometimes misconstrued. As of this moment in time, the moments that we witness now, is a rather different dynamic than where we stand today, so savor the nuances as we continue our journey.”

You have to admit that situations/wrongdoings/incidents do tend to linger far too long on RHOBH.  The Beverly Hills ladies seem to drag it on for several seasons, whereas on RHONY they move on and get over shit a LOT faster.

Don’t Be Tardy Season Finale Recap: Matters Of The Heart

Don't Be Tardy season finale

Don't Be Tardy season finale

OK, Don’t Be Tardy fans and haters, we made it through another season of Kim Zolciak Biermann’s life, just barely. Between health scares and the stress of just living la vida Kim, some episodes, we were hanging on by a thread. Or so Kim would have us believe. She still managed to deliver us her most expensive baby yet, her skincare line Kashmere, which I’m sure is selling like hot cakes in the link of her Instagram bio. As for long suffering husband Kroy Biermann, his football career still hangs in the balance (although if you follow any Kim news at all, you already know he was signed and then released from the Buffalo Bills).

Since the launch of Kashmere, Kim has been having some “weird” symptoms that she’s chalking up to the stress of self promoting a skincare line while simultaneously having a birthday party. I mean, can you guys imagine the stress? And you thought your life was hectic *snort*. Anyway, this brings Kim to an appointment with her cardiologist.

CLICK CONTINUE READING FOR MORE!

Unfortunately, there was an abnormality on Kim‘s recent EKG and it’s cause for concern. Kroy, ever the wordsmith, chalks it up to changes. What changes specifically? All kinds of changes – physically, spiritually, you know, all kinds.

Don't Be Tardy season finale recap

Speaking of changes, Brielle has a new man in her life named Michael. Michael is a minor league baseball player and a major league snooze fest, if you ask me. But Brielle is anxious to show him off to Tracey so they video chat him, with the most boring results ever. Judging Michael’s enthusiasm for the whole conversation, he either just woke up from a nap, or maybe a coma. The conversation doesn’t last long and they disconnect so Michael can go back into his coffin for the day.

As complicated as this new romance could get with Brielle moving to L.A. – wait, sorry, we are now find out that Brielle is not in fact moving to L.A. because her gig as an unpaid intern at Access Hollywood didn’t work out. Oh and she’s IN LOVE with her new man, which means she’s really not in a hurry to head across the country. And what’s not to love? These two clearly have so much chemistry! They both say “yeah” a lot and ummmm, what else? Help me out here, guys.

So Brielle’s staying put in Atlanta, where the Chick-fil-a flows freely and she doesn’t have to beg her parents for a $3,100 a month condo because she doesn’t want to sit on a toilet someone else has used before. At this point, I would like to direct Brielle to the Teresa Giudice section of our Real Housewives history book.

Don't Be Tardy season finale recap

Regardless of the fact that Kroy won’t be playing in Atlanta anymore and the family will be moving soon, Kim and Kroy need to finally enroll the boys in school. They bring KJ, who is five years old and “brilliant” (Kim’s words). So brilliant that he uses curse words just like a real adult. Kim decides that the school they visit isn’t the right fit – KJ is too smart to be put in the same classroom as kids over the age of six who don’t swear and probably wear their Batman baseball caps straight. KJ might not be enrolled in school, but he does have his own golf instructor so rather than waste any more time checking out kindergarten, he hits the golf course #priorities.

The family is still trying to figure out what the heck Brielle is going to do with her life and continue discussing her relationship at the dinner table. Brielle couldn’t care less and is listening to her man’s minor league game being streamed on her phone. Ariana decides to cut the crap and points out that Michael will never want to be with Brielle once he finds out how she really lives her life (as a slob).

Kim muses about how important it is that both Brielle and Ariana step up and help her around the house since she is so stressed. One look at Brielle’s room and I’m going to guess that’s as likely to happen as KJ going to school this year. Maybe Kroy should offer a thousand bucks to run a vacuum instead of attending a few hours at the funplex.

Don't Be Tardy season finale

Kim and Kroy head to the doctor, large coffees in hand, to find out what Kim needs to do about her abnormal EKG. The doctor can’t really tell Kim much without knowing some extra details about her family history and orders a treadmill stress test plus blood work. Some of Kim’s symptoms are deemed “normal” and some “not normal” and Kim leaves without any real answers. The only answers we get as viewers is that Kim continues to undergo testing in Atlanta and that Kroy was signed and released from the Buffalo Bills, which we already knew.

Here’s hoping Kim gets the treatment she needs and lays off the Kashmere so she can get back to a less stressful way of life (and dare I say and appearance on Real Housewives of Atlanta???).

Survivor Finale and Live Reunion Recap: Transformers

Survivor finale

Survivor finale

The ultimate generational battle between Millennials and Gen-Xers has finally come to an end, and there is a clear winner: Us. Yes, the audience came out on top this time, bearing witness to a great, unpredictable season of Survivor that just kept picking up steam and never stopped getting better. That held true all the way through tonight’s two-hour finale, as well as one of the better, tighter reunion shows in recent memory. It was a fitting end to one hell of a season.

Of course, tonight they crowned the Sole Survivor of Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen-X, the 32nd person ever to hold that title.  Thank you for being here and sticking through this truly great season…and you’ve come this far, so we might as well journey through one last recap before you catch your breath and ready yourself for Season 34 next March (and it looks promising…more on this later). Let’s do this!

CLICK THE CONTINUE READING BUTTON FOR MORE, AND THIS IS YOUR LAST *SPOILER* WARNING!

Well I am rarely correct with my predictions, and have never, ever predicted a winner from the season’s beginning. And even though this season threw me for more than a few loops along the way, and even defied my expectations from episode to episode by going against traditional “norms” of editing, I called Adam as early as the Premiere Episode as being one to watch since he seemed to be getting the “winner’s edit” right out of the gate.

Adam is a worthy winner, an imperfect winner for sure, but a worthy one. His game was all over the place, but he navigated it beautifully and was able to surround himself with bigger fish throughout. He incorrectly played more than one Idol, but to even come in possession of so many was a testament to his game. It’s always great to see a super-fan living out his ultimate Survivor dream, but there has never been such an incredible emotional backstory that I can ever remember. It’s not uncommon for players to go out and play for their families, or their loved ones, but what an incredible story, to have not only come out to play Survivor after Adam’s mom received a devastating diagnosis, but to win the game.

As we learned at the Live Reunion Show that followed, the story becomes even more heart-breaking, to learn that Adam raced home after the show, only to have his mom pass away just one hour after he got there. Putting this in perspective, he even reminded us tonight that this is his real life…yes, it is a touching story for all of us to hear and go “aaaaawwww,” but this is the reality that he is living in every day. Imagine yourself in Adam’s shoes for one moment, and you’ll begin to see just how incredible his Survivor experience really is.

Before I go any further, I want to throw out the website where you can help donate to lung cancer research: Su2c.org/survivor. As Probst explained, a company (I forget which one) offered up to $100,000 in matching donations. Adam also announced that he would be donating $100,000 of his million dollar winnings to the cause as well.

Survivor winner Adam

Pivoting awkwardly back to the game, let’s talk about how Adam got to his million dollar prize! When the Finale began, Jay was more than a little bit upset that he played his Idol at the last Tribal Council, but that would not be the last Idol he would get to play. Well, technically, it was the last REAL Idol that he got to play, because he ended up playing a fake Idol in what was just an epic first Tribal Council of the night. But after having spent his REAL Idol, Jay’s days were numbered simply based on how big a threat he was to win this thing. Here was a likable guy that had dominated physical challenges down the stretch and who had played a great social game. As he should have been, Jay was everyone’s number one target should he lose Immunity…which is easier said than done. But when Jay got out to a huge early lead during the first Immunity Challenge, he failed to cover up his puzzle combination, which allowed all of the others to steal it and quickly catch up to him. It didn’t help his game that David was the one that ended up winning, as he was the other major threat left in the game.

But David had meticulously crafted a fake Idol, stealing beads and other items over the course of the entire game, and even went so far as to hide it in a painted coconut, along with the official instructions parchment that David had found with his Idol. Brilliant, if it worked! And boy did it work. Not only did Jay play this fake Idol at Tribal, but he got all cocky about it. Probst just loves moments like this, and when he proclaimed, “This is NOT a hidden Immunity Idol,” it was truly tragic to see Jay’s reaction, as it slowly sank in that he had been duped in a major way. On par with most everyone else this season, Jay gracefully, hilariously, left the game.

Survivor finale

Prior to this Tribal, Jay had done everything in his power to shift things his way, and it nearly worked. He started by stealing David‘s Reward Challenge with the advantage that was gifted to him by Adam…he then chose David and Adam to eat the steak dinner with him. This was a great move to get the major players at the same table, and Jay’s magic worked on David, who seemed more than willing to keep Jay around and target Bret instead. It was Jay’s yin-yang and soul-brother Adam who was immovable. Adam simply needed Jay to go. I’m not quite sure we’ve ever seen such a complex love-hate relationship on Survivor than the weirdness that exists between Jay and Adam.

Also at this first Tribal, the mysterious “Legacy Advantage” was used by Ken. It was revealed that the advantage was that Ken would get Immunity at that first Tribal Council, and it did negate the sole vote cast for Ken (by Jay). Ultimately though, this was a twist that didn’t work out all that well, and for all of the build-up and mystery surrounding it, it sort of landed with a thud. Oh well. For every good game twist that’s introduced, there are always a few Medallions of Power…but kudos to the show for always trying to come up with new and unique twists to introduce into the game. It’s to be expected that not every single one of them will be a winner.

So with Jay out of the game, the attention turned towards getting rid of David, but as Bret said, it’d be simply if only we weren’t dealing with crazy people. After having been Immune with the Legacy Advantage and with his physical competition out of the game with Jay, Ken ended up winning Immunity which meant that David was going home. Except he didn’t. Adam was gunning for David, and David for Adam, but miraculously, Adam found a hidden Idol…on Day 37. I, for one, felt this is a bit too late in the game to introduce new Idols into play, but Adam found it and played it, although it ended up not having much impact. Instead of voting out David, Hannah flipped on Adam much to his chagrin, and decided to send Bret out of the game instead.

S33_Ep14_SG_179

A word on Bret: He was another great character this season, who shared what Probst called “the moment of the season” when he revealed that he was gay to Zeke during a Reward Challenge. He simply was on the wrong side of things through much of the game, but he played tough and hard down to the end. Although it didn’t appear so at first glance, Bret actually had a lot of people rooting for him on jury, so had he been allowed to get to the end, he just might have had a case to win. But it was not to be. Bret’s exit left only four in the game: Hannah, Adam, David, and Ken.

How do you top off a great 39 days on the island? How about with one heck of a nail-biter Final Immunity Challenge. A game of concentration and patience ended in a tie between Hannah and Ken, and then literally at the buzzer, Ken was victorious. It was a thrilling finish. Heart-pounding. And all for naught if you’re Ken. Even though he was Immune for the final three Tribal Councils, he found himself in the awful position of either choosing to take David with him to Final Three, where he would lose for sure, or to vote David out and take his chances with Adam. Poor Ken decided to backstab his closest ally, David, whom he had aligned with back on Day Three. For a guy who talked constantly about loyalty and honesty and integrity, this move against David seemed awfully hypocritical.

Hannah, Adam, and Ken then faced the jury, and it was a breath of fresh air to see a mostly un-bitter jury…which I had called the rarest of Survivor rarities. The greatest development of all was that Hannah came into Final Tribal ready to win. Man did I like her at Final Tribal! She came in guns-a-blazing, and knowing that this jury would respect game-play, she forcefully tried to convince them that she had strategically mapped out all of her big moves, and that Adam was mainly along for the ride. At one point, I even had sort of felt a wave of momentum swing her way, and thought my goodness, Hannah could actually win! I had theorized that she could had she sat next to Bret and Ken and argued the same exact way, but we’ll never know how that might have went. But it was a great, great Final Tribal performance for Hannah.

Ken, poor Ken, realized early on that he had no chance, and even though we the viewers knew this, it was still sad to watch. Ken, as was pointed out, is a great guy and played an amazing old-school game that centered on integrity and loyalty. Had he played 10 years ago, he might have been a great winner. But there is no room for such nobility in today’s Survivor game, for better or worse. Still, it was tough to watch the jury pile on Ken, or dismiss him altogether.

Survivor finale Hannah

When the Final Tribal ended, I thought that Hannah had made a good case for herself, but I still felt like Adam held the edge. I didn’t see a unanimous winning vote coming Adam’s way, but that’s exactly what happened. Yes, Adam Klein, the 25-year old Homeless Shelter Manager from San Francisco, a Millennial, is your Sole Survivor and winner of Season 33. He is also the youngest winner ever, and the fifth to ever win by unanimous vote.

Episode Take-Away: While watching this Finale, I just was in awe over how good this season was and how the Finale lived up to what had preceded it. Just a remarkable finish. From the fake idol, to the aggressive game-play, the twists and drama just never stopped coming. And while I felt myself rooting for David tonight, Adam being the winner definitely does this season justice and doesn’t feel like a deflation, like last season did after Michele Fitzgerald won. It was maybe the most likable cast ever assembled, and I just hope that this so-called “evolution” of the game stays true…because I love watching a group of players who are not afraid to play the game, make big moves and when they get beat, have the respect for the game to still cast an objective vote for winner.

Ken getting no winning votes was expected, but I really thought Hannah may have nabbed one or two. Hannah’s pitch at Final Tribal ultimately came across as too little too late, as perception is everything on Survivor, and the perception was that she was a “flipper” and was often unsure about her own game-play.

I usually love returning player seasons (and I know some hate them), but on the heels of this all-new, amazing cast, I’m almost disappointed that next season, Season 34, will feature all returning players, because I feel like I’ll know what to expect from them. And that, I don’t like. But let me remind you of Cambodia and Heroes vs. Villains…often times the returning player seasons are among the best ever, so I’m more excited now than ever for next season to roll around.

Survivor reunion

Live Reunion Show: Of course, the major take-away from the Live Reunion Show was the preview of Season 34, which is officially called “Survivor: Game Changers.” It will feature all-returning players, eight of which were officially revealed tonight:

  • Newly-inducted Survivor Hall of Famer, Tony Vlachos, winner of Survivor: Cagayan
  • Tai Trang, Survivor: Kaoh Rong
  • Caleb “Beast Mode Cowboy” Reynolds, who was medically-evacuated from Survivor: Kaoh Rong
  • Fan-favorite Ozzy Lusth, who will now be playing for a fourth time
  • Cirie Fields, now playing for her third time
  • The only two-time winner in Survivor history, Sandra Diaz-Twine
  • Ciera Eastin, who appeared on the “Second Chance” season and who is now apparently getting a third chance
  • Millennial vs. Gen-X’s own Michaela Bradshaw

In addition to hearing more about Adam‘s mother and her tragic battle with lung cancer, the Live Reunion Show focused primarily on the transformations that many of the players had out there on the island this season. David, Zeke, Bret and Hannah all shared how the show has changed them, for the better. Probst briefly checked in with Michaela, Will, Sunday, Jessica and Chris, but sadly Paul, CeCe, Lucy, Rachel and Mari were not heard from at all. Oh, and you might be interested to know that the famed showmance known as #FigTails is no more…with the minor issue of Taylor having had a pregnant girlfriend back home apparently being the sticking point. Whoops, I hate when that happens.
