Important Real Housewives of New Jersey History To Know If You’re A Newbie To The Show

With 13 seasons of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, there is no better time to start watching the beloved franchise. Gone are the days of waiting each week for a new episode, since you can now stream season after season. A lot has gone down in the Garden State, between massive feuds, plots, private investigators, and table flips. However, keep reading to find out the most important information that will quickly get you up to date. 

Bravo Wanted RHONJ To Be Family Based

Despite the ongoing spectacle between the Gorgas and the Giudices, the network wanted to have a franchise centered around family. The first few seasons showed Caroline Manzo, Dina Manzo, and Jaqueline Laurita, wife to Chris Laurita, as one big Italian-Ameircan family who lived by one rule—blood is thicker than water. Viewers gravitated towards watching the three women interact, especially with their children, who sometimes stole the show. 

While Teresa Giudice was an OG, her sister-in-law and brother, Melissa Gorga and Joe Gorga, didn’t appear until Season 3. As the Gorga/Giudice clan started to become more popular, their cousins, Kathy Wakile and Rosie Pierri, were also added to the series. Even close friends, like Dolores Catania, were portrayed as family, since the stars have known one another since they were small. By including siblings, cousins, and close friends, what was already a fun franchise became one of the most dramatic series ever. 

The Gorgas Join the Franchise

As stated above, Melissa and Joe were invited to join RHONJ for Season 3. They’ve been a staple on the show ever since. This move severely upset Teresa, who felt that the show was hers. Since the moment Joe and Melissa started filming, the siblings have been at one another’s throats. However, it all started at baby Joey’s Christening.

Firstly, Teresa and her gaggle of daughters showed up late to the church. During the sit-down dinner, Teresa approached the head table with Bravo cameras catching the hate in Joe’s eyes. The proud father tells his sister to “just walk away. Go,” noting she is “garbage.” What occurred was the first of many, many brawls between the two families.

The next was an all-out fist fight at Lake George between Joe Gorga and Joe Giudice. Teresa has also done her fair share of plotting against Melissa, which has included trying to set her up as a stripper, calling her a gold digger, and most recently, telling Joe that his wife cheated on him. There is so much more to unpack between these two families, but all you have to know now is that they don’t like each other and are not on speaking terms. 

The Giudices Go to Jail

While the show has other interesting castmates, many of the storylines surrounded Teresa and her husband for many years. After being convicted of fraud charges in 2015, both Joe and Teresa spent time behind bars. The Skinny Italian author was given an 11-month sentence at the Danbury Federal Correctional Institution in Connecticut. Joe spent three years in prison and was deported back to his birth country of Italy following his March 2019 release.

Joe now lives in the Bahamas and still works as a contractor. 

RHONJ Cast Makes History

The Real Housewives of New Jersey made history when Bravo decided not to change the cast for four consecutive seasons. Along with Melissa and Teresa, the popular series kept Dolores, Jackie Goldschneider, Jennifer Aydin, and Margaret Josephs. The women really seemed to have great chemistry. However, for Season 13, Jackie was demoted to a friend, and two newbies were brought in, Rachel Fuda and Danielle Cabral. 

The latest season showed Teresa marrying Luis Ruelas in an over-the-top wedding. Sadly, Melissa and Joe decided not to attend, as they felt their relationship was toxic. Dolores, who has always hidden her feelings, revealed she started dating a new Irish beau, Paul Connell, with fans hoping there may be wedding bells in the future. The rest of the cast stayed status quo, with Season 14 already starting to film.

Our Dream Bachelor in Paradise Couples

Bachelor In Paradise Season 9 will be here soon, and there are certain contestants we’d love to see pair up in Mexico. We do not know much about Season 9 just yet. However, there are a number of contestants who have been rumored to be on the beach at some point. While Season 8 didn’t have a high success rate, viewers hope Season 9 will produce more couples that last.

Many of the women on Season 9 will likely be from Zach Shallcross‘ season of The Bachelor, which was the most recent to air. By the same token, there will probably be a fair amount of men from Charity Lawson‘s season of The Bachelorette. As always, there will also be a handful of contestants from older seasons. Many contestants could be a great match for each other. However, these are four couples that we would love to see in Paradise.

Ariel Frenkel & Aven Jones

Ariel Frenkel and Aven Jones are two former contestants who are rumored to be on Bachelor In Paradise Season 9, and the two could potentially make a great match! On Zach’s season, Ariel was sent home after fantasy suite week. Aven, on the other hand, fought for Rachel Recchia‘s heart on The Bachelorette Season 19. Ultimately, he was her runner up.

Both Ariel and Aven were fan favorites during their respective seasons, and the two have many similarities. Ariel and Aven are close in age since they are just one year apart. This means that they are probably at similar points in their lives. The pair also both seem to have laid-back personalities and go with the flow, which makes them compatible as well.

Jess Girod and Sean McLaughlin would be another good match in Paradise, since the two are more compatible with each other than they were with the leads of their seasons. Jess was featured on Zach’s season, where she was ultimately eliminated when she confronted Zach about not receiving a one-on-one. Sean was recently sent home on Charity’s season, where he made it to the top six.

Jess and Sean were both among the younger contestants on their seasons, with Jess being 24, while Sean is 25. The duo could be a great match, since they are both young but also mature. Jess and Sean also both have great senses of humor, and like to have fun. If Jess and Sean meet each other in Paradise, they could potentially have a great relationship.

Kat Izzo & Brayden Bowers

Kat Izzo and Brayden Bowers had similar experiences during their time on the show, which could possibly make them a good couple for Paradise. After she was eliminated right before hometowns during Zach’s season, Kat faced some scrutiny from viewers. Brayden was recently sent home on Charity’s season, where he was also one of the more controversial contestants.

Both Kat and Brayden were seen as villains on their respective seasons, even though they weren’t really villains at all. Both Kat and Brayden had good intentions, but sometimes portrayed them in the wrong way. Kat and Brayden could have a second chance with one another, since the two are both very extroverted and outgoing, and seem compatible.

Rachel Recchia & Tyler Norris

Rachel and Tyler Norris first formed a connection on The Bachelorette Season 19, but Rachel ultimately eliminated Tyler when she didn’t feel ready to meet his family. However, Rachel and Tyler have both been rumored to be on Bachelor In Paradise Season 9, so it is possible that the two could give their relationship a second chance.

Rachel ultimately chose Tino Franco, who later cheated on her, which caused them to end their engagement. Tyler, on the other hand, briefly dated Brittany Galvin after Bachelor In Paradise Season 8, but they later broke up as well. Rachel and Tyler had a genuine and drama-free relationship on The Bachelorette, so the two may finally be ready to rekindle. Tyler has always been serious about Rachel, and even reached out to her before The Bachelorette.

While the Real Housewives often produce amazingly dramatic seasons, viewers shouldn’t sleep on the reunion specials. What was once a one-hour segment at the end of the series has now turned into two or even three parters.

The women of each city are allowed to confront one another over the shade and comments each told over the episodes. There are often screaming matches and even sometimes a brawl. Andy Cohen will often try his best to settle the women down, but he usually loses his own voice yelling at them, too. These are the most shocking Real Housewives reunions that still have fans talking.

At the end of Season 7 of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kim Richards and Lisa Rinna were still not on good terms even though the soap actress sent an olive branch to the new grandmother. What will forever go down in 90210 franchise history was an uncomfortable return of a stuffed blue bunny. During the season, Lisa decided to buy a peace offering for Kim, who was celebrating welcoming her first grandchild to the family.

When the reunion rolled around, curious fans wondered how the two ladies were doing in their relationship. In a very dramatic move, Kim revealed to the cast that she couldn’t accept the gift, let alone give it to her grandson. At the time, Kim noted, “It didn’t feel like it had good energy.” Lisa was understandably shocked and let one stray tear roll down her face before she left the stage.

During the Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 7, tensions ran high as Porsha Williams and Kenya Moore kept baiting one another during the tell-all. Between exchanging insults, which included an iconic line from Porsha who said, “You’re a slut from the 90s,” neither one could get a word in edge-wise. While Kenya tried to implement props like a scepter and bullhorn, Porsha was having none of it. In a stupid escalation, Kenya noted she would be getting Porsha fired, which led to her co-star lunging for her.

Porsha grabbed Kenya’s hair, pulling her down to the ground. Porsha then dragged Kenya while Andy frantically screamed, “No! No! No! Stop!” While Kenya lay in shock, Porsha cried out, saying she had blacked out. She kept repeating, “I’ve been through so much! “I can’t believe I did that! I have embarrassed myself; I can’t believe that wretched ho made me go there.”

Teresa Giudice has become used to burning bridges left and right, but no one thought she would stoop as low as to talk about her cousins, Kathy Wakile and Rosie Pierri‘s dead father. Yet during Season 4, that is exactly what happened. Viewers learned that Kathy’s mother and Teresa’s father had their own falling out years prior and didn’t talk for almost a decade. During the reunion, Teresa and Kathy got into a heated discussion, which caused Rosie to see red.

While standing backstage, Rosie became so heated she started screaming about wanting to rip off Teresa’s head. Her shouting didn’t go unnoticed, with Teresa pretending to make faces at the outburst. Rosie continued telling Tre, “She better watch her fu*king tongue or I’ll cut it right out.”

Season 10 of the Real Housewives of New York City was pretty sad, as it showed the demise of Bethenny Frankel‘s friendship with Carole Radziwill. For seasons, the two women had been best friends, but a weird wedge came between the two that left viewers in shock. The relationship couldn’t get back on track, as the reunion solidified the end. The two played a game of insult tennis as they lobbed accusations back and forth.

At one point, both women took out their phones to show their receipts, hoping to discredit the other. The argument centered around a man named Brian from speed dating, who Bethenny had listed as “Brian in the Red Scarf Speed Dating Guy.” It seems the Skinny Girl founder claimed to have tried to set Carole up, to which the writer denied that ever happened. While feverishly reading out the text, Carole tells Bethenny to “get off her jock.”

Andy, usually the voice of reason, noted Bethenny wasn’t lying, as he read out, “I can easily set you up with Carole,” to which Bethenny jumped out of her seat screaming “Booyah b-tch!”

No Talent Kim

The entire first season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta left fans confused as to whether or not Kim Zolciak and NeNe Leakes were actually friends. During the Season 1 reunion, NeNe didn’t hold back her opinions of Kim’s singing talent and relationship with Big Papa. The mother of two straight up told Andy she didn’t think Kim “could sing,” stating, “This is my opinion.” 

While talking about her relationship with the married man, Kim revealed that her romance was on again and off again, noting the show had taken its toll. Kim went on to tell the host that Big Papa felt NeNe was “trouble,” but the former stripper felt Kim had just made the information up. NeNe shut down the discussion when she told Kim, “Close your legs to married men!”
