Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

“The first cut is the deepest,” as one contestant learned on this week’s episode of Survivor. But at least that cut was able to be bandaged. Another blow received in the game – a backstab – was a bit more of a fatal wound, and it severed yet another likable player from the game.

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols. If you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later! It’s important to add that while we WILL hit on all of the important developments of the episode, this is not a linear “blow-by-blow” recap. It is more of a discussion and reaction of what we just witnessed together.

Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

Lots to discuss! But yes, it was fun-lovin’ Vince Moua, the game’s first-ever castaway of Hmong descent, that saw his torch snuffed in the worst-possible way imaginable: With an unused Immunity Idol resting in his pocket. It’s every survivor’s worst nightmare, to leave the game knowing that you had a sure-fire way (OK, sans an “Idol Nullifyer being played…) to remain in the competition. But wait a minute, I thought that our resident Idols Boston Rob and Sandra Diaz-Twine just bestowed upon Vince the valuable Survivor-wisdom-nugget that you must remain calm under pressure, and you must not panic or give in to paranoia. Vince trusted his gut – and the women’s alliance in which he appeared to be solid with through the first seven days in the game – and it ultimately got him voted-out.

Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

More than in recent seasons, it seems, tribes are once again valuing a player’s physicality when it comes to winning tribe challenges this early in the game. That of course, is traditional Survivor-thinking, that you must get rid of the “weak” physical players pre-merge, when winning in group challenges is the surest way to get ahead in the game. But in the more strategic, cutthroat, “voting bloc” era of the game, this hasn’t always been the first measure. That’s good news for Aaron and Dean, both of whom are strong, physical guys who apparently still have value to the all-girls alliance in that they can hopefully help them win a few more challenges. But getting rid of Vince seems like a short-sighted move for them, as those “physical threats” like Aaron (and Dean), if allowed to stick around into the later part of the game, are often the biggest threats and the most dangerous.

RELATED: Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 2 Recap: The Need For Speed

Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

The Vince blindside is especially worrisome when they had another, “weaker” physical option in front of them, with Karishma. She got a nasty cut on her hand (and how disappointing was it to watch her suffer with no one coming to help her) and she struggled mightily in the challenges thus far. She seemed an easy, obvious vote, no? I guess the women in the group are just solely betting on the fact that she is also female? But wouldn’t it have been a much better move to have voted out Karishma, a woman, just to prove to everyone on the outside that there was not, in fact, an all-girls alliance?

Vince‘s fate is, of course, his won fault. He seemed to be an interesting threat from a social-game perspective, but he obviously didn’t have what it takes on a strategy level. In getting chosen (randomly, so we’re told…although wouldn’t it be best to show the audience who is getting randomly selected to go to the Island of the Idols, so it doesn’t appear fishy?) to go to the Island of the Idols, Vince had a target on his back, but then he did score an Idol. Because it could only be used at one of the next two Tribal Councils, it seemed to me to be a no-brainer that he should use it here…like, why not? What wasn’t shown on TV – and I’d be curious to find out – is if he told anyone not only about his Idol, but about his experience at the Island of the Idols.

Remember Elizabeth on his tribe has already been there…did there stories match-up? Did they talk to one another about it? Was Elizabeth wanting him gone for that very reason, so that he wouldn’t spoil her Island of the Idols story? There was a lot that was left out of last night’s episode, and it honestly was a bit frustrating to watch it all unfold…or not unfold.

Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

As for the Island of the Idols twist itself, I’m officially hanging on by a string…I’m going to give it one more week before I officially go one way or the other on my opinion of it, but as of right now I want to think I am leaning towards calling it a big bust. Yes, Rob and Sandra and the King and Queen of Survivor, deservedly so, and I’m a HUGE fan of them both. But as we know, they’re living out there too now, and just nine days into the game, they too look as tired as the players in the game.

They were definitely less witty this episode, and had almost nothing to say in their Tribal “spy shack” like they had in previous episodes. I did finally like that the Island of the Idols challenge DIDN’T involve having to go up against one of them in a competition, and it was sort of an interesting diversion to see Vince have to sneak into his opponent’s camp. But the overlying problem is with these little “lessons.”

RELATED: Cast Of Survivor Season 39 – Island Of The Idols – Revealed!

The main lesson of all Survivor lessons is that the game is constantly evolving and players are forced to constantly adapt…and there isn’t one rule book or one  “boot camp” that is going to layout a blueprint for someone to win the game. That’s the flow with the Island of the Idols twist. This episode’s lesson was DISASTROUS, in that it gave Vince bad advice given his specific situation. Vince had just earlier gotten on Karishma‘s case for NOT making more of a stink when she was on the presumed “bottom” of the tribe, and yet he didn’t end up taking his own advice when his name was starting to come up. And who knows for sure (damn I miss my exit interviews…), but Vince may have very well kept his Idol to himself because in the back of his head, he was hearing Rob and Sandra tell him to just relax, and to remain calm. Oh well.

Survivor: Island of the Idols Episode 3 Recap: Lessons Learned?

Episode Take-Away: This all being said, I’m still enjoying the season as a whole, in spite of the fact that I’m going to give the Island of the Idols twist one more week to really try to win me over. We also got Dean‘s first confessional of the season, and it was almost his last, when he made a public blunder about splitting-votes in front of the whole tribe. Oops! Be careful what we wish for I guess when it comes to Dean? I’m still liking Missy a bunch, I still want to see more of Lauren, and now that we’re getting to know these players, I think I’m getting ready for a tribe swap to happen in the near future.

Voted out this week: Vince (with an Idol in his pocket, poor guy!)

Won Immunity: Purple Tribe

Vote: No advantages or Idols were played. 5 – Vince (Elizabeth, Missy, Karishma, Elaine, Chelsea), 3 – Karishma (Dean, Tom, Aaron), 1 – Tom (Vince)

Captain Lee Rosbach And Kate Chastain Dish On The “Problematic Personalities” On The New Season Of Below Deck

Below Deck Captain Lee Rosbach

Below Deck Captain Lee Rosbach

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s back already!  Below Deck fans can rejoice and get their next guilty pleasure fix because Season 7 premiered just a week after it’s spinoff, Below Deck Mediterranean, ended.  And despite being only one episode in, it’s never to early to start speculating about the crew.  The holy trinity of reality TV questions that we can ask ourselves are- who will cause drama?, who will hook up?, and who will go home?  Because on this show, there is always the threat of an envelope with a plane ticket home.

Captain Lee Rosbach is back in fine form, navigating Valor through the immaculate waters of Thailand.  Kate Chastainunsurprisingly, returns as Chief Stew.  The only other familiar face is Ashton Pienaar who has been promoted to Bosun.  Fans may know what to expect from these three already, but what about the rest of the crew?

Captain Lee and Kate gave a teaser interview to HollywoodLife about the personality clashes this season.  Captain Lee hinted at drama escalation by opining, “that’s never a good thing.”  Kate elaborated, “I think it was actually a difficult season for me for a lot of the personality reasons that were on board.  There was just so much drama. Watching the trailer back, I was like, ‘oh, I forgot that happened. Oh, I forgot that happened.'”

That trailer was a doozy.  And certainly one crew member stuck out as a instigator.  Both Kate and Captain Lee single out Chef Kevin Dobson as a cause of major drama.  Kate revealed that ,”the chef, that’s always a big conversation piece.” Captain Lee said of him professionally that, “he wasn’t performing up to his abilities.  He was, and then he wasn’t.”

RELATED: Below Deck Star Kate Chastain Dishes On Which Real Housewives Would Make Great Crew Members

So obsessively labeling hundreds of plastic storage boxes doesn’t a good chef makeKate dished that Kevin’s quirks were both professional and personal.  “I just never knew what to expect from him at any time,” Kate said, “personality, chef-wise, he was just full of surprises, and the only thing that wasn’t surprising was that he was nuts, but just like every other chef. It was just like a different flavor of crazy.”

Bravo certainly likes to cast unstable chefs.  And also now to cast chefs with weak stomachs.  But are the personality quirks indicative of the entire profession or is production just pulling the worst of the worst?  Certainly this will be an interesting season.

Kelly Dodd Claims Vicki Gunvalson Bought Her Own Engagement Ring

Kelly Dodd Vicki Gunvalson

Kelly Dodd Vicki Gunvalson

Season 13 of Real Housewives of Orange County was boring. But an interesting and unconfirmed rumor emerged that “OG” Vicki Gunvalson, if she wanted to save her full-time Housewife position for the next season, had to deliver a big storyline. She needed to get engaged–on camera. No pressure!

It’s not like Vicki didn’t constantly tell her boyfriend, Steve Lodge, that she wanted him to put a ring on it and make it official. Steve finally did propose to Vicki in April of 2019, and it seemed like Vicki’s RHOC position was guaranteed.

Well, about that. Vicki was demoted to a Friend of the Housewives for Season 14. I am still a bit shocked, especially since she is still creating right in the middle of the drama. The bad blood between Vicki and Kelly Dodd started when Vicki set up Kelly’s ex Michael Dodd with one of her friends. Vicki decided to keep it a secret from Kelly. When Kelly found out, she was furious.

At last season’s reunion, Vicki went after her former friend Kelly by repeating a rumor that Kelly uses cocaine. During Season 14, Vicki and Tamra Judge drove the Kelly “sex train” out of the station. A sex train occurs when a person has sex with people one after another. Who says Real Housewives isn’t educational?

RELATED: Gina Kirschenheiter Blames Vicki Gunvalson For Kelly Dodd Train Rumor, Says Tamra Judge “Gets A Bad Rap”

The Tres Amigas: Shannon Beador, Tamra and Vicki knew about this rumor and decided it was too damaging to ever be revealed. Don’t worry, Vicki later said that she didn’t have any part in spreading the story. Seriously? For her part, Kelly denied the rumors that she does cocaine or ever took part in a sex train. But she would be open to a possible threesome.

In an interview with People, Kelly made some shady comments about Vicki and Tamra. (Warning: the grammar is a bit rough) “When I look at Vicki, I look at her as like AARP,” Kelly said. “But you know, it’s like…you gotta have a personal story. You can’t be surrounding [your] other peoples’ stories. Like…like I feel like Tamra and..and… and Vicki are, I mean, they’re stale.”

RELATED: Shannon Beador & Braunwyn Windham-Burke Claim Kelly Dodd’s Apology To Vicki Gunvalson Was Phony

Kelly’s temper has been flaring all season, just ask  RHOC co-star Gina Kirschenheiter after Kelly smacked her on the head. Of course, Kelly just wanted to demonstrate how she hit the metal bowl on Shannon’s head with a mallet. You know–the normal stuff that happens on a girl’s trip.

Kelly also took to Twitter to comment on Vicki’s engagement ring. “You know where the ring is of course..cuz you bought the ring..#rhoc,”

Kelly tweeted. Look, is there a possibility that Vicki helped Steve buy her the ring of her dreams? Yes!

Real Housewives Of Dallas Recap: Circus Monkeys

LeeAnne Locken Real Housewives Of Dallas

LeeAnne Locken Real Housewives Of Dallas

On last night’s Real Housewives Of Dallas, we celebrated LeeAnne Locken‘s wedding with the first of many nonsensical parties. This particularly onerous event was a mid-afternoon circus-themed lingerie shower that was thrown by Stephanie Hollman and former Housewife Cary Deuber. Basically, LeeAnne needed them to pay for it.

Clearly, LeeAnne believes she’s owed a free party because she’s done SO much to promote Mark Deuber‘s career! In fact, all of these numerous pre-wedding festivities are basically an opportunity for LeeAnne to exploit parties and presents from people. Stephanie even says as much when she and Cary list out all the gifts they’ll have to buy and reveal that LeeAnne actually planned her entire lingerie shower herself, but had the bills sent to them.

Before the big event, the women reacclimate to their Dallas lives after the trip to Mexico. Kary Brittingham gets coffee with her daughter and lectures her on the perils of marrying young and relying on rich men to fund your vanity jewelry making endeavors instead of having a real career. Kary’s daughter looks bored of this speech which she’s likely heard a million times, and is like, we get it mom – you regret having kids.

Kameron Westcott

Since Hilton was 18 -months-old Kameron Westcott has been preparing to send her off to some Jr. League training facility deep in the heart of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleading indoctrination center. Now Hilton is 8, and the time has finally arrived to ship her off with a customized trunk to find the long lost twin Kameron gave to her top-secret ex-husband who lives in California. I’m sure there will be singalongs and khaki-colored JoJo Siwa bows galore. Seriously, though, I F–KING loved sleep away camp, and yes, we southerners take it very seriously!

Hilton is Kam’s total opposite: a tomboy, daredevil who loves football, but Kam accepts Hilton for who she is which is fantastic. Unfortunately, Court and Hilton’s close bond seems to include mocking Kameron.

Being allowed to leave Kameron’s stifling pink womb, free of the oppressive blonde shroud is the greatest day of Hilton’s life. Kameron is nervous to let Hilton go, though, because who else will advise her on how to have friendships without drama? Hilton is experienced in these matters; given that she can relate to people on a deeper level besides the color pink and Chanel culottes.

Presently, Kameron needs advice on rational relationship boundaries. She is upset that Stephanie confided in Kary, even though they’ve only been friends like 2 days, yet not Kameron. Kameron doesn’t seem to understand that what Stephanie was talking about with Kary was, well, Kameron. The higher the heels the closer your head is to the clouds.

After canceling for hair emergencies, D’Andra Simmons finally meets with Travis Hollman for much-needed business advice. Travis and D’Andra bond over having parents who relish in their struggles. Travis advises D’Andra to immediately shed parts of the business that don’t make money. She’s already cut Mama Dee‘s dry-cleaning bills, so…

RELATED: Real Housewives Of Dallas Star Kameron Westcott Reflects On Calling Brandi Redmond “Trash”; Says They Are Now In A Good Place

Jeremy Lock and Travis both believe D’Andra needs to get rid of the office and work from home, let go of some employees, and most importantly: act like a boss by making tough decisions. Travis also thinks D’Andra doesn’t want to admit to herself that she’d rather sell the business. D’Andra will die her last breath trying to prove herself to Mama Dee, who will be scowling down from the heavens, with the same look on her face that’s in the creepy portrait hanging in D’Andra’s office.

RELATED: Real Housewives Of Dallas Star LeeAnne Locken & Husband Rich Emberlin Say D’Andra Simmons’ Husband Jeremy Lock Cheated On Her

Later that night, Travis sits down – with his shoes on the bed – to discuss Stephanie’s issues with Kameron. In her so-called “friendship” with Kameron, Stephanie feels like she can’t say anything right.  That’s because Kameron speaks My Little Pony and Stephanie speaks Vulcan – well it might as well be Vulcan if you’re a Real Housewife. For Travis, the matter is simple: accept that Kam is an elitist snob who feels she’s above everyone else, and don’t try to develop a sincere friendship. That doesn’t sit right with Stephanie. “How do you put boundaries up with somebody without making them feel bad about themselves?” she wonders.

It’s nice to see Travis and Stephanie’s relationship has evolved from him being her dad to him being her counselor who’s also a friend –  basically her Golden Girl. He definitely has a bigger vagina than LeeAnne or Brandi Redmond!

Stephanie resolves to talk to Kam at LeeAnne’s party. Good luck with that!

LeeAnne Locken Cary Deuber

Then it’s time for LeeAnne’s bizarro-world shower where she is dressed, aptly, like the Planter’s Peanut Nut, complete with a top hat. Was 1 PM (on a Wednesday!) the only time LeeAnne could get the space for free? Well, it’s 5 PM somewhere. Honestly, there is no bigger illustration that LeeAnne is shameless than the grifting of this wedding. LeeAnne insists she’s being sensible with the amount of events, considering that most Texas weddings involve 10 – 12 parties. She’d have 12 parties if she could get 12 people to pay for them!

Cary Deuber Brandi Redmond

Going along with the illusion that her friends threw this bash for her, LeeAnne spends the entire day being fake surprised by everything.

RELATED: Kameron Westcott Teases Drama After Real Housewives Of Dallas Cast Skips LeeAnne Locken’s Bridal Shower

D’Andra wasn’t invited because LeeAnne still doesn’t trust her on that level. Aka, D’Andra is presently too poor to throw LeeAnne any parties. You. So. Know. It, because Kary is invited even though she and LeeAnne squared off n Mexico, and Brandi is also there.

For Kameron, a lingerie party means something a granny would wear on her deathbed. For Brandi, it means Fredrick’s of Hollywood end of the year clearance event. Basically, they both dressed perfectly for themselves! To her face, Kameron squeals at how Brandi is her fellow sister in pink and gushes over her daring outfit.

But behind Brandi’s back, Kameron provides us a breakdown of hoe-ism:

  • “If your breast implants are above the muscle and they’re smooshing out above your top…” Single hoe. As in you might get chased out of a church, but you’re not going to hell yet .
  • If your cleavage is showing and your legs are also exposed: hoe HOE. Hoe to the double no. Girlfriend, take that pitchfork and fend your way to hell. Also, you’ll never marry a man with a political dynasty last name so you might as well lie down in front of the Dallas Trolley and die. You know Kam’s is secretly pissed that Brandi’s hoe-ism is the color pink!

Kary Brittingham

Basically, Kam has elevated from calling Brandi trash to referring to her as a hoe, but she just means Brandi’s outfit is hoe-no, not Brandi. Just like Kam meant Brandi acts like trash, not that Brandi is trash! Kameron even advised Kary on what lingerie-esque looks were anti-hoe appropriate. Aaaahhh… Kameron can even slut-shame clothing. Her consistency is refreshing.

For the record, LeeAnne also looks like a hoe, but Kam has those Double-D standards, and just as long as they’re not hanging out entirely, it’s A-OK.

Brandi knows she looks ridiculous in her Halloween prostitute costume and this is why I can’t totally hate Brandi. Despite her multiple hoe violations, Brandi attempts to be classy by apologizing to LeeAnne for their misunderstanding in Mexico.

Thus begins LeeAnne pontificating about how double-wide trailers leave lasting scars. Brandi joked that she only had a single-wide, but LeeAnne cannot let anyone – AN-NEE-ONE – have a more dire situation than her! Um, has growing up in a trailer park replaced being a carny? Also – I’m confused: if LeeAnne’s mother abandoned her, how was she also fending off would-be rapey mother’s boyfriends with cow skulls in said double-wide. I need a flowchart to track LeeAnne’s dramas. Can Lifetime just call this woman already and make a movie about her lies life so she shuts up?

Instead of slutting it up at 2 in the afternoon, D’Andra is at work revealing numbers, not nakedness. And Jeremy is helping her because free labor is the only labor Hard Night can afford right now. It will literally take a green miracle to get out of this mess!

D'Andra Simmons

Jeremy completely agrees that it’s time to dramatically reduce costs, or dump the business altogether, but D’Andra isn’t willing to abandon ship yet. Not because she loves the company; not because she owes it to Mama Dee to save the family legacy, but because at 50 she can’t believe she is starting her life over and if she gives up without a fight she’s letting Mama Dee win.

Finally, D’Andra gets real about the root of her anger: Mama Dee talked D’Andra out of her career in DC by begging her to come home and take over the business; only to hoard it from her until it was on its last legs. And now at 50, D’Andra is forced to start her life over. “I trusted my mother and then she lied to me,” rails D’Andra. D’Andra thinks Dee should feel an “incredible amount of guilt” — yeah, I think the empathy section of her brain was sacrificed to make room for excess skin post-facelift.

Jeremy takes D’Andra’s hand and promises they will build something new together. Ain’t that romantical like a box of 50 donuts and a diamond ain’t in one. And with that, Hard Night Good Morning is moving to Highland Park (and living in D’Andra’s laundry room).

Now back to LeeAnne’s circus of delusion it’s time for games, gifts, and arguments.

Cary called Rich to ask questions about LeeAnne and she has to say what she believes his answer will be. They are quite in sync until the “weirdest place you’ve ever had sex” question. LeeAnne begins a convoluted story about how Rich drilled a hole in their neighbor’s fence then stuck his pecker through it. Who in the hell has a Tim the Toolman Taylor and Wilson fantasy? The Housewives’ reactions are priceless. Stephanie is confused about why they didn’t just go for chainlink to avoid splinters. Kameron is surprised LeeAnne had “a wilderness side to her.” And Brandi is ready with the Woody Woodpecker revamp. After all that, it turns out Rich’s answer was a friend’s house in their bathroom during a party.

LeeAnne Locken Underoos

The presents are what you’d expect: lingerie, sex toys, handcuffs, under-roos with Rich’s face on them, eyepatch and all. (Those came from Stephanie; the handcuffs from Brandi, of course!).

Kameron does not do kinky sex. Like if she brought home handcuffs, Court would probably assume she wanted to lock him up to go steal his credit cards. Kam – – you are a girl after my own heart!

As the party is winding down, Stephanie asks to speak with Kameron. Stephanie feels misunderstood and hurt that Kameron doesn’t consider her a friend, and Kameron feels disappointed that Stephanie is comfortable confiding in Kary – someone she’s known 2 days – over a friend of a couple years.

I don’t really care what happened in this discussion except for the revelation that Kameron has now traded in “girl” for “chick” – it’s like she’s escalated in the infantilizing of women. I almost want to believe this is the 5th wave of feminism dubbed reverse progress or Kamerica!

Kameron Westcott

These two go round in circles like a tilt-a-whirl with Stephanie feeling that made Kameron break down Steph’s breakdown in Mexico to be all about herself by focusing on how she went to Kary. Kameron feels like even though she said Stephanie was a bad friend, Stephanie should understand it was just in that moment, but that overall she will be there to listen non-judgmentally. Yeah, right. Kam only listens to LeeAnne because she’s afraid of her.

Finally, we get to the gooey center of all of this: the Trash comment. Trash is also a trigger word for Stephanie, but instead of Kameron listening, she freaks out that she already apologized to Brandi. While Stephanie feels Kam judges from the pedestal of her own imposing height (then adds heels), Kameron is frustrated that while Brandi was in her face screaming the F-word no one told Brandi to knock it off. “She wants to be a victim when she wasn’t even in Brandi and I’s conversation,” protests Kam. I do think she makes some good points!

Stephanie Hollman

Kameron storms away because she’s being attacked “again” and Stephanie bursts into tears. The problem is Stephanie just wants to feel understood, but Kameron wants to be exonerated. Stephanie explains, “I want to be friends with her, but I also don’t want to be her bitch.”

Now Stephanie is worried that because of Kam’s tantrum, LeeAnne will blame her for causing problems. Oh, don’t worry – LeeAnne will never ostracize Steph: she’s rich!

TELL US – DID KAMERON OVERREACT TO STEPHANIE? WAS LEEANNE’S PARTY RIDICULOUS OR FUN? SHOULD D’ANDRA TRY TO SAVE HER COMPANY? WAS IT NICE TO HAVE CARY BACK ON REAL HOUSEWIVES OF DALLAS?

What a frustratingly stupid episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols

A visit to the Island of the Idols resulted in a comedic but dumb challenge, and also destroyed someone’s game. Meanwhile, a tribe completely ignored a stabbing.

Below Deck Mediterranean Star Captain Sandy Yawn Shares Updates On Her Girlfriend’s Surgery

Captain Sandy Yawn Leah Shafer Below Deck Mediterranean

Captain Sandy Yawn Leah Shafer Below Deck Mediterranean

Captain Sandy Yawn never knows what she might face each week on Below Deck Mediterranean–a questionable chef like Mila Kolomeitseva, rogue stews like June Foster, inclement weather or a fire when she is trying to dock. She has to demonstrate patience, strength, courage and optimism despite what is going on around her.

Those traits are characteristics I am sure Sandy has been calling on lately as she is supporting her girlfriend, gospel singer Leah Shafer, through a difficult health battle. Sandy announced via social media in late August that Leah had been diagnosed with what seemed to be breast cancer. At the time, Sandy revealed that Leah had chosen to have a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Recently, both of them shared health updates for Leah via social media.

In an Instagram post last week, Sandy shared, “Today is Leah’s surgery and I’m asking all of you that believe to please pray for her. Thank you from all of me, heart and soul!” Accompanying the post is a touching photo montage of Leah and Sandy, set to Leah’s song, Testify to Love.

Leah had posted earlier on Instagram, “I do not need chemo or radiation and have a chance to remove the area of disease early and be done!! Thank you Instagram family for your prayers!”

In the post’s accompanying photo, Leah announced, “I’m having a lumpectomy only this Friday Oct 4th praying for clear margins and a clean bill of health and move onward. I will forever be proactive and preventative. Thank you everyone for your prayers and support.”

Sandy posted an update on her Instagram a few days later, declaring, “Thank you for all your support and prayers, now we wait and see if her markers are clear. Please keep praying for a positive result. Thank you.” The accompanying photo further stated, “Leah is home! She had a lumpectomy because insurance won’t cover mastectomy! Please pray that all markers come back clear!”

It must be incredibly difficult to face serious health challenges and not be able to get the treatment you think is in your best interest because of insurance rules.

In a follow up Instagram post several days ago, Leah revealed more about her diagnosis, explaining, “So to be clear, This is what I have: LCIS lobular carcinoma rapid cell growth. So I chose lumpectomy To remove the area of disease/concerned area so it didn’t even have a chance to develop into anything more. LCIS is not considered breast cancer. But it can!! And quickly. It’s early signs of breast cancer.”

Leah went on to share that her insurance company would not cover a double mastectomy for her condition. As a result, she chose a lumpectomy so the disease would not become aggressive.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation website states about LCIS: “Compared to women without LCIS, those with LCIS are 7-11 times more likely to develop invasive cancer in either breast.” Such odds would naturally result in someone wanting to seek what they believed to be their best option for their treatment.

Another complication for the couple is that Sandy is not able to be at home in Denver with Leah. Sandy had tweeted in late August that she was going to be away for work for seven weeks, which must make the whole situation even more challenging for the couple. As Below Deck Mediterranean filmed around the same time last year, there is a strong possibility Sandy is away filming the show.

I am sure that all Below Deck Mediterranean fans wish Leah a speedy recovery, clear test results and future good health.
