Everyone, everywhere, is talking about the America’s Next Top Model documentary on Netflix. The three-parter exposes the rise and fall of the reality TV series, as well as the impact it had on the contestants, judges, and viewers.
But one person who wasn’t in the loop about the Netflix series was Eva Marcille. Long before appearing on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she was a contestant on ANTM Cycle 3 in 2004. Eva won the show, which ultimately launched her career, and nearly two decades later landed herself a spot on RHOA.
Eva Marcille was “gobsmacked” by the ANTM docuseries
“I watched it,” Eva said of Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model on CBS Mornings today. “And after I watched it, I was gobsmacked.”
“I was in awe,” she continued. “My mouth was wide open.”
Speaking about her own experience, Eva added: “To be a part of a club, and not know what’s going on in the club is crazy.” Perhaps that’s why Eva does not appear in the Netflix exposé. “They didn’t ask me,” she said. “It was very surprising.”
Yet, Eva’s name does feature briefly in the documentary. In one clip, creator and judge Tyra Banks lists off the names of contestants who found success and reshaped the industry. And that included Eva.
The main focus of the documentary, however, is not happy-ever-afters. To that end, Eva admitted that while she did not know the trauma some people went through, she thinks “that environment could not exist without producers aiding what was going on.”
As for Tyra, who has been heavily criticized for the documentary, Eva had thoughts. “I saw the show. She apologized a million times,” she said. “[But] there is no sorry, I think, that’s big enough to truly feel and heal that kind of hurt.”
