This group has done other installations critiquing the current President, and this toilet statue is the latest of the lot to make its way to the National Mall in Washington, DC.
The Secret Handshake gave a statement to USA Today about the piece. They claimed that the installation uses humor and spectacle to prompt political discourse. They added that visitors are allowed to sit on the golden throne and take photos.
The Secret Handshake reportedly created the statue as a statement on Trump, during what they described as a period of “unprecedented division, escalating conflict and economic turmoil,” mocking his decision to focus on the renovation of the Lincoln Bathroom. The group added that Trump “isn’t just a businessman,” but is “taking care of business.”
They further added, “It’s a tribute to a visionary who looked down, saw a problem and painted it gold.”
The same group installed a separate sculpture on the National Mall depicting Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as characters from the movie “Titanic” a month earlier. They are also reportedly behind another Trump and Epstein statue that appeared in Washington, D.C. in September.
The bathroom renovation is one of the several big renovations that Donald Trump has carried out during his second term as President. His other renovations include the Rose Garden lawn, demolishing the East Wing, and moving forward with plans for a 90,000‑square‑foot ballroom.
