R. Kelly, originally named Robert Sylvester Kelly, is reportedly now in solitary confinement in prison. Beau Brindley, the former singer and record producer’s attorney, has allegedly revealed the reason behind his new placement in prison. The former singer was first convicted in 2021 on federal charges. At the time, he received a sentence of 30 years behind bars after being found guilty in court.

R. Kelly is now reportedly in solitary confinement in federal prison, facing investigation

R. Kelly has reportedly been facing an investigation at present, and he is now in solitary confinement in federal prison. As reported by TMZ, according to Beau Brindley, the former singer’s attorney, he is currently under investigation for having a retired warden’s phone number in his possession at his North Carolina federal prison. He has allegedly been placed in solitary confinement “for the duration of a probe of the incident.”

In the meantime, the attorney told the news outlet that the problems with R. Kelly began after his involvement in a mentorship program. The program was reportedly there “to help guide other inmates.” The warden at FCI Butner Medium 1 allegedly oversaw the program.

According to the news outlet, the warden recently retired. However, before leaving, he allegedly gave the convicted singer his cell phone number. The retired warden reportedly did it so the former singer could contact him if he ever needed any advice about the program.

Meanwhile, per the news outlet, some time after that, a cellmate of R. Kelly got caught with “a mobile phone on his person — which is considered contraband in prison.” The attorney further said that officials from the prison went on to search the prison cell of inmates. They reportedly found the convicted singer’s notebook. It allegedly contained the retired warden’s phone number.

Authorities at the prison have reportedly placed R. Kelly in the Special Housing Unit, also known as the SHU, as the investigation continues.
