Reality history was cemented the moment Tyra Banks went off on America’s Next Top Model contestant Tiffany Richardson. It’s easily the most quoted moment from the show, with Tyra screaming, “We were all rooting for you!” Never in her life had she yelled at a girl like that — allegedly.
In Netflix’s juicy new docuseries, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Tyra addressed the viral moment and admitted that she took things “too far.” However, the other people who were in the room that day say she’s not being fully honest.

In the Netflix doc, Tyra addressed the “tough” Cycle 4 moment where she lost her cool on Tiffany. She said she went “too far” and “lost it,” which we already knew from watching the clip thousands of times. However, she then went on to blame the temper tantrum on “Black girl stuff.”
“It was probably bigger than her. It was family, friends, society, Black girls, all the challenges that we have. So many people saying that we’re not good enough. I think all that was in that moment,” Tyra said.
She added, “That’s some Black girl stuff that goes real deep inside of me, but I knew I went too far.”
Meanwhile, ANTM’s creative director Jay Manuel, dished that there was much more to the blow-up than what we saw on TV. He called it the “most difficult moment on set” he had ever experienced, which speaks volumes considering he also accused Tyra of giving him the silent treatment off camera.
“There was a lot more that was really said,” Jay recalled of the viral moment. “And some of the things that were said were really not well-intentioned. I’ll probably never repeat the lines that were said in that room, that day.”
Yikes! As ANTM fans continue dissecting the docuseries, Tiffany took to Instagram to share her side of the story. In a since-deleted post, she made it very clear that she’s not on board with Tyra’s excuses. She called the ANTM host a “lying ass [tired] ass bitch” who mistreated her throughout the entire show.
“You know how you treated me the whole time off and on camera, YOU WAS A BULLY!!! You treated me like sh*t and said the nastiest things about me and my son,” Tiffany said. “That is not how the argument went but YALL EDITED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE YOU CARED.”
