An afternoon of rugby took a scary turn for Below Deck alum Colin MacRae. You know him from Seasons 2, 3, and 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, and the poor guy wound up in an emergency surgery after snapping his Achilles tendon. It’s going to take him months to get back on his feet.

Colin took to his Instagram to share the news about his unfortunate injury. He uploaded a carousel of photos showing him lying in a hospital bed, with his foot bandaged from his procedure.
“Life took a serious turn for the worse this weekend when I thought I could play rugby at 40,” Colin began.
He continued, “Snapped my Achilles clean in half, and had to have surgery to join it back together. Was a full rupture which felt like someone had shot me in the heel with a shotgun.”
The award-winning BDSY alum was in Bangkok when it happened, and he said the doctors there have been taking great care of him. A surgeon reconnected his tendon. He even included a photo from the operating room. However, it’s going to be a long time before he’s back on the rugby field—or on the deck of a sailing yacht.
“Going to be a long slow road to recovery, with the surgeon saying I’m going to have to learn to walk again in a few months,” Colin revealed.
Although it’ll be a slow road to recovery, Colin seems to be in good spirits. He wrote off this setback as just “another bump in the road.” Plus, a bunch of his fellow yachties slid into the comments offering words of support. Everyone is cheering him on after this freak accident tried to bring him down.
