The controversy around former Rehab Addict host Nicole Curtis is still ongoing. Parents reportedly expressed concerns about her school volunteering role after she was caught on tape using a racial slur.
On Wednesday, Radar Online shared a leaked behind-the-scenes video of Nicole using the N-word while completing a DIY project. As a result, HGTV cancelled Rehab Addict and pulled all nine seasons from streaming. Now, the host may lose further opportunities.
Nicole Curtis’ volunteering at one school may soon come undone
According to an exclusive report by TMZ, parents have spoken to leadership at the school regarding Nicole’s volunteer room parent role. The outlet claims that parents are “super uncomfortable with her working in the classroom.” Additionally, parents want the school to address the issue as while it continues to garner press attention.
One parent emphasized that “there are children of color who attend the school” and they’re “shocked leadership has been mum on what happened.” Nicole has continued her volunteer role following the leaked video last week. “It would be wise for her to read the room,” one parent told the tabloid. They suggested “tak[ing] some time off to let emotions cool.”
Nicole has since apologized following the video’s release. She provided TMZ with an official statement following her firing. “I want to be clear. The word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary, and never has been, and I apologize to everyone,” she said in a statement.
“I’m grateful for the 15-year journey we’ve shared. It’s been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn’t on my career,” she wrote on Instagram stories. “My focus, at this moment, is rightfully on my relationships, and my community — the people who truly know my character and where my heart is.”
Rehab Addict first began airing in 2010, and was scheduled for a comeback this month. The release of the video coincided with the day the new season was meant to premiere on HGTV.
