Priyanka Chopra is speaking out about “hurtful” speculation over her marriage to husband Nick Jonas.
Speaking in an interview with Variety, the actress discussed the early days of her relationship with Nick and how gossip affected her. Priyanka and Nick began dating in May 2018, and married in December of that year. They share one daughter, born in 2022.

“I don’t know what was it about us that rubbed people the wrong way,” Priyanka told Variety in an interview published on February 11. “I think there was the intercultural nature of it—different countries, different religions, age gap. It was very hurtful.”
Priyanka was born and raised in India to Hindu parents. Nick grew up in New Jersey, and his father was a minister at an Assemblies of God church. The 2000 Miss World winner is 43 years old, as of February 2026, and the Jonas Brothers singer is 33 years old.
Although the initial wave of gossip and press attention was difficult to bear, Priyanka and her husband didn’t let it affect them for long.
“Instead of looking out, just sort of looked at each other, and we were like, ‘It doesn’t matter,’” she said. “So it’s like water off a duck’s back now.”
“We’re eight years in,” the actress said of their critics. “If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it.”
Priyanka did admit, however, that their relationship grew so quickly even she doubted the reality of their situation. “We got married really quick, within six months of meeting,” she explained. “When I first married him, I didn’t know if it was even real. This part of him. Because I was like, ‘This is crazy. This is put on.’ But Nick has this absolute sincerity. It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on.”
