A personal gift from Meghan Markle has reportedly turned up in an unexpected place. An inscribed book, given to Princess Eugenie and her husband, appeared for sale online. According to reports, Eugenie has contacted Meghan directly to clear the air; however, the mystery surrounding the book remains unsolved, according to those close to the situation.
Princess Eugenie assures Meghan Markle the $26K book on eBay wasn’t a ‘deliberate snub,’ per source
Rob Shuter reported in his Substack newsletter that Princess Eugenie personally called Meghan Markle after the gift surfaced on eBay, per a source. The listing carried an asking price of £20,000, according to the report.
The item was a first-edition copy of “The Bench”, Meghan’s 2021 children’s picture book. It was also a personal present to Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The copy contains a handwritten inscription addressed to “Eug & Jack” and mentions Frogmore Cottage.
“The Bench” explores the bond of fatherhood through a mother’s eyes. Meghan has said it began as a poem she wrote for Prince Harry on his first Father’s Day after their son, Archie, was born.
Eugenie was reportedly shocked by the listing. “Eugenie called Meghan herself. She was horrified the book had somehow ended up for sale and made it absolutely clear she would never knowingly sell a personal gift from Meghan,” a source told Shuter.
So how did it get there? Sources noted that Eugenie and Jack have moved house and split their time between homes over the years. This raised the possibility that the book was misplaced, stored, or passed along without their knowledge.
An insider said Eugenie herself has no answer. “Eugenie genuinely doesn’t know how it left her possession,” the source said. “What mattered to her was making sure Meghan knew this wasn’t some deliberate snub.”
The two women reportedly maintain a close bond, and the eBay listing has since disappeared. Meghan reportedly accepted Eugenie’s explanation. Even so, the source added, “nobody can explain how the book got there,” and the mystery continues.
