Last week, Candiace Dillard Bassett exited The Traitors turret for good. She was banished, and Rob Rausch, her fellow Traitor, played a hand. Similarly, Rob also failed to protect Lisa Rinna. So now, Candiace has a theory about Rob’s duplicitous gameplay.
Was Rob Rausch always going to betray his fellow Traitors?
Following her banishment from the Season 4 castle, Candiace sat down with Gold Derby to speak her truths. From the jump, Candiace “wanted to be a Traitor.” When filming started, her baby was only eight months old. So, if Candiace was going to “be miles away from home in the Highlands of Scotland, running around Alan’s castle,” she wanted this time to be “worth it,” she explained.
But then, her boy Rob “started to break up the band, and I wasn’t with that. I’m loyal to the soil, and I was loyal to my fellow Traitors. It didn’t feel necessary to go against Lisa or Rob,” Candiace said. Furthermore, “There was [already] enough suspicion, and there were enough places to introduce doubt elsewhere, that no one had to betray each other within the turret.”
But still, Rob rose to the occasion, and off she and Lisa went. Looking back, “I think he always planned to betray us and go alone, if you will,” Candiace now feels. Regardless, “I still stand by my game. I don’t think my game was flawed,” she noted.
And for the Faithfuls who remain, Candiace gagged, “They’re drinking his bathwater. His dirty bathwater. Everybody has goblets clinking together. ‘Cheers to Rob’s bathwater!’ That is what it’s giving. It is mind-boggling to me.”
Rob’s now the only Traitor left standing, but he did offer Eric Nam a chance at joining him in the turret. However, as Candiace further stressed, “Eric is a wonderful person, and so sweet, and really funny, but Eric can’t hear, and he can’t see. So, you think about that choice and why Rob would make that choice.”
The Traitors airs on Peacock with new episodes dropping on Thursdays at 9/8c.
