When Southern Charm’s Craig Conover and Charley Manley first met, they seemed to be a perfect match for each other. Sadly, their most recent date fell short of Craig’s expectations.
In Craig’s mind, Charley was wary of being seen together in public. For that reason, their first date was set at an oyster farm, away from the possibility of seeing anyone they knew. When things went well, Craig set a second date for canoeing at Whitner Slagsvol’s family farm.
However, being alone in a natural setting didn’t have the same desired effect as their first date. Sadly, the absence of that initial spark made Craig think he and Charley weren’t really meant for each other.
Craig and Charley enjoyed an awkward silence on their date
On Bravo’s Southern Charm After Show, Craig told Madison LeCroy how his romantic outdoor plan went off the tracks.
“I would’ve never wanted to go on these kayak or canoe rides if I wasn’t, like, ‘OK, let’s just be us,'” he said. “Instead, [Charley] was so guarded that you’re just, like, alright … ‘What are we doing here?’ … You could hear, like, a pebble drop.”
Meanwhile, Craig was confused about how differently Charley was behaving than their usual interactions. Her awkward silence was nothing like their FaceTime calls, where Charley is normally “just laughing” with him. Is he overthinking things?
“It sucks, because she, like, quieted herself to make other people comfortable,” he concluded.
For her part, Madison understood where Craig was coming from. “Listen, I get it,” she said. “My husband [Brett Randle] is a mute on camera, and the experience I have at home is nothing like that … He is wild … in, like, a good way.”
The Sewing Down South founder seem relieved to hear about Brett’s similar reaction to being on camera. Maybe there’s hope for Craig and Charley after all.
