Savannah Guthrie’s mother Nancy’s disappearance is entering the second week, and the family pastor is speaking out. On a Today show segment Tuesday, February 10, Pastor Michael Rudzena of Good Shepherd New York spoke about Nancy to Hoda Kotb.
Nancy was reported missing on Sunday, February 1, after friends contacted the family. Following a search of her home, they called the police, who have been working along with the FBI to solve the case.

Nancy is a member of her daughter’s church, Good Shepherd of New York. She became a parishioner virtually when services started streaming during COVID. She regularly gathers with friends in Tucson to worship digitally.
The interview took place at the church where Savannah introduced Michael to her mother. Pastor Michael described Nancy as a strong and fiercely loving woman. “Over the years, we’ve gotten to know what makes her tick, in some ways from a faith perspective,” he said. “Songs that meant something to her, scriptures that are meaningful for her.”
In a February 9 Instagram video, Savannah said, “We believe that somehow, someway, she is feeling these prayers and that God is lifting her even in this moment.”
Meanwhile, Pastor Michael said, “Leaving the door open for hope is a way to fight against that sense of fatality, or fatalism. It’s that sense that we can feel when bad things are happening. A sense of despair and gloom can sort of cloud our minds and hearts. And prayer is a way of channeling that feeling toward God with a hope that God will lead us to it and get us to the other side. And that’s the confidence of faith.”
He then revealed one of Savannah’s and Nancy’s favorite verses, “May you find the light to guide you home.”
