This doesn’t happen often, but it looks like Bethenny Frankel has changed course. Before Bad Bunny took the stage for the Super Bowl halftime show, Bethenny shared a video expressing her concerns about performers using major entertainment events to share “personal, cultural, political views.” She suggested that there should be a “line” to keep things strictly focused on entertainment.
After the show aired, though, Bethenny was suddenly singing a much different tune. She deleted her original video and posted a new one, praising Bad Bunny for sharing his culture in such a profound way. So, did the performance change her mind? Or, was she afraid of getting dragged online like her former Real Housewives of New York costar, Jill Zarin?
Bethenny Frankel said Bad Bunny was “an artist expressing himself”
“Can’t wait to get cancelled for this,” Bethenny began in a since-deleted TikTok.
She continued, “The question remains. Should these entertainment vehicles, whether the Grammys, the Emmys, the Oscars, the Super Bowl, should this be the place for personal, cultural, political views to be expressed?”
Bethenny admitted that, occasionally, discussing world events in an entertainment space would be “unavoidable.” She listed 9/11 as an example. Still, she questioned whether ot not performers should have boundaries when it comes to making statements on major stages.
Bethenny added, “Whether it’s Dave Chappelle expressing himself, Bad Bunny, years ago Richard Gere getting into trouble, Billie Eilish at the Grammys — where is the line?”
Fast forward to Monday morning. The internet was buzzing about Bad Bunny’s halftime show. Bravo fans were dragging Bethenny’s former costar, Jill, for complaining about the lack of white people involved.
Bethenny logged into TikTok and deleted her original video. She replaced it with a new one, saluting Bad Bunny and praising the performance. Suddenly, she understood why so many people were passionate about him.
“So my take on Bad Bunny and his performance at the Super Bowl is that he is an artist expressing himself, his music and his experience as a Puerto Rican man in America,” Bethenny said.
She continued, “Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican man in America on the largest stage in the world, which is very inspirational to people because that is him expressing his experience in his first language.”
“Madonna said it best: Express yourself,” Bethenny concluded.
Fans in the comments were quick to call out Bethenny for her sudden shift. On the other hand, we’re impressed that Bad Bunny’s performance was so good that it made Bethenny delete a TikTok. That’s a trend we can get behind.
The Real Housewives of New York is streaming on Peacock.
