Former CNN anchor Don Lemon received the heartiest welcome anyone could’ve hoped for at a recent Grammys party, with attendees felicitating the journalist’s presence by giving him a standing ovation, as well as a huge round of applause. This comes just two days after his arrest at the hands of federal agents for covering an anti-ICE protest in Minnesota earlier this month. Following Lemon’s arrest, Donald Trump also came out to share his opinion on the detention.
Don Lemon is celebrated at the pre-Grammys party
On January 31, the veteran television journalist attended veteran producer Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammys party, held at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Los Angeles. At the gathering, he garnered a hero-like welcome, with people also giving a standing ovation to honor his presence.
In a video shared by conservative YouTuber Anthony Brian Logan, Don Lemon extended his gratitude to everyone cheering for him by raising his hands. Artists present at the party also included veterans like Joni Mitchell, Lana Del Rey, Gladys Knight, and Max Martin, among others.
Notably, Lemon was arrested on Thursday night and indicted on two federal civil rights charges on Friday. The charges date back to his involvement in a January 18 protest at St. Paul’s Cities Church, Minnesota.
At the venue, residents had gathered to raise their voices against a pastor who had reportedly served as the field director of a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement office. Despite Lemon’s claims that he was there just to cover the incident, he was eventually arrested (via Entertainment Weekly).
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump also commented on Don Lemon’s arrest. “No, I don’t know anything about the Don Lemon thing,” he told The Hill on Air Force One Saturday. “But he’s a sleazebag. Everyone’s known that. He’s a washup. Probably from his standpoint, the best thing that could have happened to him.” Also calling him a “failed host,” Trump added, “He had no viewers. And now he’s in the news. I didn’t know anything about it.”
