Before taking his final breath on Thursday, Eric Dane had a message for his daughters. The Grey’s Anatomy actor died from ALS less than a year after receiving the terminal diagnosis. He recorded an interview before his time on earth ended, addressing, among others, his girls whom he fathered alongside Rebecca Gayheart. This was revealed in the latest edition of Famous Last Words.
The Euphoria actor, who was 53, leaves behind two teenage daughters: 15-year-old Billie and 14-year-old Georgia. Following his diagnosis, Eric advocated fiercely to raise awareness about Lou Gehrig’s disease, which has no cure.

Before his body and ability to speak took a turn, Eric was able to share one final message to his daughters. In a Netflix special, Famous Last Words, the actor shared this heartwarming message to his girls. “You are my heart; you are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words,” said Eric.
In the interview, Eric talks about how, when he first set eyes on Rebecca, he knew he would marry her. He also urged his daughters to live in the present, something he says took him a while to learn. “I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?” he previously said. He added that he won’t have fallen in love with another woman besides Rebecca.
She and Eric married in 2004, though she filed for divorce in 2018. Last year, though, Rebecca filed to dismiss the divorce petition. Despite their differences, Eric said in the interview that there’s always been a lot of love between them.
Eric shared that he’d been bitten by the acting bug around the girl’s current age. He told them that when they find their purpose to really go for it. His Grey’s Anatomy co-star Patrick Dempsey says that Eric’s condition deteriorated rapidly when he saw him in the hospital last week.
He also urged them to fight with everything they had and never give up. His family has asked for privacy as they deal with this difficult time.
