What happened to Brandi Glanville’s face has become one of the universe’s biggest mysteries. For years, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has invested thousands of dollars into trying to get to the bottom of it. At one point, she claimed it was a parasite that she contracted while filming Real Housewives of Ultimate Girls Trip.
That seemed to be the leading theory until earlier this week, when she came out with a new reason behind her disfigurement. But do medical experts agree with her? Not quite.
Brandi Glanville blamed ruptured implants for her facial parasite
According to Brandi, aging breast implants caused all of the trouble in her face. She said her implants ruptured, leaking silicone inside her body. Dr. Brandi went on to say that the silicone clogged her lymph nodes, leading to a disfiguring, parasitic infection.
On the surface, that sounds like a solid explanation. However, Radar Online spoke with a few medical experts, and most of them wholly disagreed with Brandi’s claims. Her symptoms don’t align with what you’d typically see from a ruptured breast implant.
For example, a dermatologist named Dr. Tanya Nino told the outlet that if her implant had actually ruptured, there’d be localized symptoms, like lumps in the breast or “noticeable changes in breast symmetry.”
Similarly, Dr. Jeffrey Lee, a plastic surgeon, explained that facial disfiguration was not a “recognized or common consequence of implant rupture.” In addition to breast abnormalities, patients would normally experience fatigue, joint pain, or nausea. He also said it would be “highly unusual” for a parasitic infection to develop in that manner.
Another plastic surgeon, Dr. Sean T. Doherty, said there was “no scientific evidence” to support Brandi’s claims. While aging breast implants can rupture, there are no known instances of that causing the problems that Brandi described.
“What Brandi Glanville reports is not a recognized or established presentation of a ruptured saline or silicone breast implant,” Dr. Sean said. “Breast Implant Illness is a constellation of symptoms associated with breast implants, but facial lumps or irregularities are not known symptoms of BII.”
With all of that in mind, our big question about what happened to Brandi’s face still isn’t totally clear. Perhaps she’s just a medical anomaly.
