A new appointment connected to the United States Air Force Academy has drawn attention following a decision by President Donald Trump. The move places Erika Kirk in a role previously associated with her late husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and connects her to an advisory board that provides guidance on academy matters.
Erika Kirk to join US Air Force Academy Board
According to The Daily Beast, Erika Kirk has been appointed by President Donald Trump to serve on the United States Air Force Academy’s Board of Visitors. Kirk, 37, is the widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The appointment places her in a position previously held by her late husband before his death in 2025.
Kirk will serve alongside 16 other members on the advisory board, which provides recommendations regarding the academy. The group submits its guidance to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on matters related to the institution’s operations and policies. Her name has been added to the board’s official website listing.
Charlie Kirk briefly held the same position on the board before he was killed in September 2025. He was shot while speaking at an event during his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University. The activist was 31 at the time of his death.
Representative August Pfluger, chairman of the Board of Visitors, said he had advocated for her appointment for months. “Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the Board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the Academy,” Pfluger said. “I look forward to working alongside her to carry on Charlie’s legacy.”
After Charlie Kirk’s death, Erika Kirk became the chief executive officer of Turning Point USA. She leads the organization while raising the couple’s two young children. The group was co-founded by Charlie Kirk and has been active in conservative youth organizing.
President Trump has publicly referenced Kirk following the killing and during later appearances. During a State of the Union address, he said. Last year, Charlie was violently murdered by an assassin and martyred, really martyred, for his beliefs.
