Washington woke up to a surprise at the National Mall on Tuesday morning — a towering, spray-painted gold statue showing Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein in the iconic “Titanic” pose. The statue stands on a mock ship’s bow and appears near the Washington Monument. Naturally, it immediately drew a mix of emotions from the onlookers, including laughter and anger, while other passersby maintained uneasy silence.

The Washington Post reported that the Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein “Titanic” statue at the National Mall stands nearly 12 feet tall, depicting the alleged friendship between the two. At the front, the figure represents Epstein in a suit, standing with his arms stretched out. Meanwhile, the figure representing Trump stands behind, with his arms around Epstein, echoing the famous “King of the World” moment from the movie “Titanic.”
A plaque attached to the base labels the work “The King of the World” and spells out the artists’ message, tying the “Titanic” reference to claims about the men’s past social world. Moreover, The Washington Post reported that banners near the statue show a photo of Trump and Epstein together, along with the phrase “Make America Safe Again.” A Justice Department-style seal also reportedly appears where they have crossed out the word “Justice.”
The anonymous artists call themselves “The Secret Handshake” and have reportedly placed two other satirical installations of Trump and Epstein at the Mall in recent months.
At the National Mall, The Washington Post noted the public’s reactions. A 45-year-old Nick Smith reportedly told the outlet, “I like that they keep popping up to remind people what happened,” while 67-year-old Donna Powell also backed the message, saying, “This brings the files back to the forefront. A lot can be said with art.”
However, others wanted nothing to do with it. Josh, a parent visiting with children, said, “I don’t love seeing it here,” adding, “It’s a little distasteful and it’s not really helping the conversation.”
Though Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein’s “Titanic” statue at the National Mall is drawing polarizing opinions, it shows how nobody can resist walking by without an opinion.
