Donald Trump has pushed House Republicans present at the golf resort to work on passing a major elections bill — Save America Act — for the third time, this time with new provisions. He believes doing so will help guarantee the midterm elections and that enacting the legislation should be their top priority right now. The president warned that failing to act on the bill could cause them “big trouble.” Moreover, Trump also said he will not sign any other bills until this one is passed.
Donald Trump comments on Save America Act
During the annual issues conference in Doral, Florida, Donald Trump mentioned to the House Republicans that passing the Save America Act bill would “guarantee the midterms.” As per The Hill, he revealed that if they all don’t understand the necessity of passing this legislation at this time, it could land them in “big trouble” during elections.
Revealing why the bill is important for victory in the midterms, he added, “The people are demanding it. Every time I go out, save America! Save America! We want the SAVE America Act! That’s all they talk about.” The president continued, “They don’t talk about housing. They don’t talk about anything. That’s what they talk about. And if you send it up there, you will win the midterms, and you will win every election for a long time.”
Additionally, he asked Republicans to create a revised version of the bill, including additional provisions. Firstly, he urged them to limit the in-mail voting, only making it available to people who are ill, disabled, serving in the military, or traveling. Secondly, he wants transgender athletes to be banned from playing in women’s sports.
“If you could, if I could ask the people in this room, to go for the gold. We are going for the gold. We’re not going for the bronze. We’re not going to sign a watered-down version like it’s been sent up there. Let’s go for the gold, and let’s just not accept anything else,” he elaborated. Trump also made it clear that he won’t be signing any other bill until this one gets approved. He wants the House Republicans to consider the passing of the bill as their no. 1 priority now.
