It looks like Timothy’s case is headed to trial. On Friday, a grand jury indicted the actor for alleged child sex abuse. Larry tells DEADLINE that “a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich.” What worries him going forward is that the DA is proceeding with a case that Larry says is “fundamentally unsound and cannot be proven at trial.”
According to him, the detention hearing exposed fatal weaknesses in the evidence. He believes that the prosecution is driven by something other than facts in this case. He says that his client will fight the charges against him at every stage. Timothy has denied the allegations.
In mid-January, Timothy’s wife, Melissa Gilbert, released a statement on the matter, saying she stands by her husband. Among the allegations against Timothy are supposed incidents involving two minor boys in New Mexico while on the set of The Cleaning Lady. Other than an impending trial, another top priority for the DA is to protect the names of the children allegedly involved.
This latest development comes two weeks after Timothy was released from prison, awaiting trial. Judge David A. Murphy rejected the prosecutor’s bid to keep him detained.
