Another comedian is firing shots at Kristi Noem. On Thursday, Donald Trump announced she would be leaving her role as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). She has faced her share of scrutiny during her tenure in that position.
Seth Meyers had a go at her, wondering how she’ll afford all those eye-catching looks now. Lately, her alleged affair with Corey Lewandowski has made her the butt of jokes. She reportedly had a fling with the top DHS advisor, despite both being married.
Donald Trump fired Kristi Noem, but kept her in his administration
Those who called for Kristi’s firing won’t be as overjoyed as you might think by Thursday’s shakeup. That’s because Kristi isn’t actually leaving the Trump administration, just moving somewhere new. On his Truth Social, the President said Kristi would serve as a special envoy for The Shield of the Americas. Taking over her role as DHS Secretary will be Markwayne Mullin, a Junior US Senator from Oklahoma.
On his A Closer Look segment Thursday on Late Night, Seth weighed in on the cabinet shuffle. “What? Kristi Noem is out?” he joked. “But where is she going to get the money for all her wonderful costumes?” he wondered. A collage then appeared of 10 different screens of 10 different outfits she had previously worn. They included a fireman’s uniform, cowboy hats and army fatigues.
As for Kristi’s replacement, Seth wondered if he might be best served in another department. Markwayne said in a recent interview that Iran had been rebuilding in the same way that people “obliterate their bones,” in car accidents. That response led Seth to suggest he’d be an ideal person to become the Secretary of Health. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the current Secretary of Health and Human Services in the United States.
Kristi will remain as DHS Secretary until the end of March.
