The Pima County Sheriff has a lot more than just Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance to deal with. Chris Nanos has been featured prominently in the news since the 84-year-old went missing in Tucson, Arizona. Police believe the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie was kidnapped from her home.
Chris has done several interviews about the investigation, and like many, he’s been very emotional about it. Nancy’s been missing for over a month. Now Chris’s alleged past behavior is surfacing as the search for Nancy continues.
Sheriff Chris Nanos is being sued by an Arizona prisoner
Finding Nancy may be the least of Chris’ worries right now. Pima County Jail inmate Christopher Michael Marx alleges that the Sheriff’s Department threatened his safety with “cruel and unusual punishment.” According to The Hill, a Sheriff’s deputy was working between the prisoners’ unit and another unit in quarantine when they inmate felt his health was in danger.
The inmate is pointing the finger at Chris for allegedly failing to ensure his team followed COVID-19 protocol. Chris is being sued for $1.35 million. An inmate reportedly contracted COVID while working in between units.
This news comes as Chris and investigators are in a desperate search to track down a suspect and chase down leads in Nancy’s disappearance. Days after she went missing, Chris shared his belief that Nancy had been “taken.”
The inmate filing the lawsuit has asked for the Sheriff to apologize while alleging his life was put in danger. He’s apparently seeking $1.35 million in compensation. This is apparently to fund rent-free apartments for homeless people to live in for six months.
This allegation against Chris comes at a time when his department is facing scrutiny for Nancy’s disappearance. A suspect description was made, but they have yet to apprehend someone in this matter. A good number of people in the public have said they’ve lost confidence in the investigation team. Nancy was declared missing on February 1.
