President Donald Trump declared that the United States has already won the war with Iran, insisting that it was effectively decided within its first hour.
Donald Trump talks about Iran War in Kentucky
Speaking to supporters in Hebron, Kentucky, Donald Trump offered an upbeat assessment of military operations as American and Israeli forces entered their 12th day of airstrikes across Iran.
“We won. We won. In the first hour it was over, but we won,” Trump told the crowd, adding that U.S. forces had destroyed 58 Iranian naval vessels and eliminated the country’s air force capabilities. “Let me say we’ve won. You know, you never like to say too early you won. We won,” he added.
The president’s declaration comes amid ongoing hostilities that have disrupted global energy markets and triggered retaliation from Iranian forces. It includes attacks on commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf and strikes near Dubai International Airport.
Furthermore, at the Kentucky event, Donald Trump addressed the Iran war narrative that has divided Americans along party lines since hostilities intensified. While claiming victory, he also suggested the mission remains unfinished. “We don’t want to leave early, do we? We’ve got to finish the job,” he said.
Trump addressed Iran’s nuclear capabilities, making claims that appeared contradictory. He asserted that the recent U.S. and Israeli strikes had obliterated Iran’s nuclear program. “They don’t have nuclear potential,” Trump stated. However, he then suggested Iran had resumed activities, saying, “That’s why we got to finish it. We don’t want to go back every two years.”
Additionally, administration officials have recently argued Iran was weeks away from developing a nuclear weapon, using this to justify the current campaign despite maintaining that previous strikes destroyed Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Trump also addressed economic concerns stemming from the Iran war, announcing plans to tap the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help stabilize oil prices. “I filled it up once, and I’ll fill it up again,” he told WKRC Local 12 in Cincinnati. “Right now, we’ll reduce it a little bit, and that brings the prices down,” Trump added.
As sirens sounded in Jerusalem and northern Israel faced rocket attacks from Hezbollah, both sides appear determined to continue the fight.
