Next Time On Survivor – Episode 8

Welcome to Season 49’s Next Time On Survivor weekly feature on the Inside Survivor site! If you’re new around here, I’m Steph from sunny, tropical, humid Singapore. This is a tiny space where I give my best attempts at understanding preview trailers and make my predictions for the show’s next episodes.

The preview trailers for Episode 8 are mostly centred around Savannah. In the NTOS trailer, Jawan says, “My worst nightmare is freaking Savannah the savage.” This isn’t surprising after the last tribal council, where Jawan flipped on the original Uli tribe and voted out Nate. In the sneak preview scene, Jawan revels in the blindside he was instrumental in, but quickly adds his concerns that Savannah might try to target him.

This Jawan versus Savannah rivalry has been established and emphasised in previous episodes. Prior to the tribal council, I would say that Savannah was portrayed more favorably than Jawan, as her strategy and awareness of what was going on were highlighted, compared to Jawan’s misconceptions about his standing within the original Uli tribe. Though the blindside seems to have tipped the power in Jawan’s favour now, I’m sure Savannah won’t let her alliance with Rizo and Sophi get picked off without a fight.

Besides Jawan, we should also consider Savannah’s other potential rivals: MC and Sage. Both have brought to light that they don’t trust and don’t particularly want to work with Savannah. However, it’s way too obvious if Savannah gets eliminated in the next episode, with such a prominent feature in the preview trailers. It’s much more likely to me that the story moving forward is Savannah’s revenge on those who voted out Nate.

In the preview scene, we already see Savannah at work repairing bonds with various people immediately after tribal council. She’s out and about apologising, congratulating good gameplay, and expressing that she’s grateful she’s been allowed to stay. I’m not sure how effective they will be at persuading those who have written her off as “savage,” but I feel like she’ll be able to pitch a strategy to players to keep herself in the game.

Sophi
CBS

Also in the trailer, Jeff announces an upcoming twist during the immunity challenge. The players are split into two groups: a blue half comprising Steve, Alex, Savannah, Kristina, and Sophi, and a yellow half comprising MC, Rizo, Jawan, Sophie, and Sage. Jeff explains that “nobody is safe, nobody has immunity,” which probably refers to players on the losing group all being vulnerable at tribal, as there’s only one individual immunity winner. Likely, the groups will attend tribal council separately, as was common in previous seasons.

To sum up, the overwhelming Savannah content indicates to me that she’s not getting voted out next episode. She’s working with Rizo, who has an immunity idol, and Sophi, who has the Knowledge Is Power advantage. I think the three will be able to work the tribe from the minority position they are in, acting as a number for others’ plans at first.
