As of last December, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum Jen Shah is a free woman. After her release from the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, Jen remained mostly silent in the press. But yesterday, she finally sat for her first interview. And within, she revealed three main bombshells, two of which included some very well-known names.
In 2023, the courts found Jen guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She did so using a nationwide telemarketing scheme, which primarily targeted elderly and vulnerable populations. After her conviction, Jen served nearly three years of her court-ordered six-and-a-half-year sentence. She is now under house arrest until August 2026.
In prison, Jen had many fans. “It was like a BravoCon meet and greet when I got there,” she admitted during her first tell-all. And then, she shared so much more.
Jen Shah took responsibility for her crimes
In the opening credits of RHOSLC Season 2, Jen said, “The only thing I’m guilty of is being Shah-mazing.” Then, she spent the rest of that season doubling down on her blamelessness. But as Jen explained in her first interview with PEOPLE magazine, she actually “believed in [her] innocence” back then. She was not just blowing smoke on our screens.
“I thought I was doing the right thing for the majority of the time, and also under the direction of other people [who] were running the companies,” Jen said. “And, honestly, you get there if you’re not careful.” But as her trial date neared, her legal team received a treasure trove of evidence from the prosecution. And as Jen admitted, that’s when everything changed.
“It was like a train hit,” she said. “That was the first time I saw all of it — the communications, the interviews, the witnesses. I saw for the first time that there were people who were hurt. That there were actual victims as a result of this conspiracy,” she stressed.
“I had never seen anything with my own eyes. That changed things for me.” So now, Jen finally admits, “I was wrong.”
Jen further confessed, “I made wrong decisions. I should have done things differently. I should have been more diligent. And I’m deeply remorseful and sorry for my actions and for my part. I take full responsibility.”
The former RHOSLC star spoke of Ghislaine Maxwell’s behavior in prison

Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell was transferred to the very same prison as Jen in 2025. But as Jen explained, she and Ghislaine shared very “limited interactions.”
“I worked at recreation, and she would come in to work out,” Jen revealed. “But her experience there is very different from anyone else’s.” Even still, Jen “chose to have very limited interaction with her,“ especially after Ghislaine “made it very publicly known” that she felt “no remorse” for her crimes.
In 2021, courts found Ghislaine guilty of recruiting, grooming, and transporting teenage girls for sexual encounters with the late Jeffrey Epstein and his well-to-do friends. In prison, Jen claimed, they watched his victims speaking out on their televisions. And when they did, Ghislaine cared very little for their pains.
“It was a lot when the victims would be on TV and talking,” Jen explained. “She would just – complete disregard for them. This is when they are pouring their hearts out in front of Congress and for the files to be released and stuff.” And as Jen stressed, Ghislaine’s reactions and behaviors when these women were baring it all “didn’t sit” with her “the right way.”
Allegedly, the prison staff equally loathes Ghislaine.
Jen remains “good friends” with Elizabeth Holmes

Also sharing air space with Jen was Elizabeth Holmes. Elizabeth was the founder of Theranos, a failed blood-testing startup. In 2022, courts found her guilty on four counts of fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud against her company’s investors. In prison, Elizabeth struck up a kinship with Jen.
“Lizzie and I are good friends,” Jen disclosed. “As another high-profile prisoner, there are just certain things you’re both dealing with, so you naturally come together in those instances.” Additionally, Jen added, “We both got assigned to poop duty together,” and “When you do poop duty with someone, you’re going to be close.”
To explain, “If someone in your bathroom does not clean it, you get a strike. If your bathroom gets three strikes, you have to do poop duty. We would make sure that [didn’t happen]. Like, ‘Hey, we’re not doing poop duty!’” Jen laughed.
“On poop duty, you pull up a metal chair and watch everybody come in and use the bathroom,” she recalled. “After they use the bathroom, you have to get up, go inspect it, and either clean it if they don’t or tell them to come back and clean it.” Sighing, Jen noted, “I almost made it through my time without having to do it.”
This nasty aspect aside, Jen and Elizabeth served as “a sounding board for each other” in prison. They also exercised together and spent time with each other’s families. But unlike herself, Jen shared, Elizabeth has “continued to defend her innocence while she’s been there.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is streaming on Peacock.
