An NBC Sports host had to clean up an awkward mistake over the weekend after showing the wrong Tiger Woods crash photo during coverage of the Houston Open. The network reported on Woods’ March 27 arrest in Florida. However, instead of using footage from that incident, viewers saw a photo from his much more serious 2021 crash in California. Dan Hicks addressed the error on air on Saturday.

During the broadcast, the NBC host said, “We want to take this time to make a correction,” after which he went on to explain, “Before we came on the air today, our studio inadvertently showed the incorrect picture of the car crash Tiger Woods was in.” Dan Hicks then clarified, “It was another previous car crash. It was not the correct one — the latest one that was yesterday.” He added, “We apologize for that and just want to straighten that out before we go any further.”
The mistake happened earlier in the day while NBC covered Woods’ Friday crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. The network showed an image from Woods’ 2021 rollover wreck, the California accident that led to a serious injury, while discussing his new legal trouble.
Notably, the two incidents were very different. Per Page Six, in 2021, Woods crashed his Genesis GV80 SUV in California after driving at nearly 85 mph in a 45 mph zone. Meanwhile, in Friday’s Florida incident, the outlet reported that his Land Rover rolled over after clipping the trailer of a pressure cleaner truck he was trying to pass.
Authorities charged Woods with driving under the influence. They said he showed “signs of impairment and refused a urinalysis test, leading to charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test,” but his breathalyzer test came back negative. Later, authorities released him on Friday after eight hours in jail. Now, the NBC host’s correction put the incident on the record in plain terms.
