Claudio Gama, husband of General Hospital’s Anthony Geary, has spoken out after his spouse’s death. Anthony passed away in Amsterdam on December 15 at the age of 78.
The soap opera legend played Luke Spencer on General Hospital from 1978 to 1984. He returned in his iconic role in 1993 before finally retiring in 2015. Anthony’s final appearance on the show was in May 2017.
Claudio Gama paid tribute to his late husband
Claudio and Anthony were together for 30 years and married for six. “Today, we said our last goodbyes to Tony. He is now resting up where the stars shine bright,” Claudio posted on his Instagram account Monday, December 22. “He will always be missed. His love, his life, his art speaks for itself. Me, Max and the family would like to thank all of Tony’s friends and colleagues for the wonderful support and respect you have shown Tony. To all of Tony’s fans, thank you so much for the wonderful words of support and condolences.”
In his first statement after Anthony’s death, Claudio expressed shock in his passing. “For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband,” he shared, adding that the soap star’s death occurred three days after surgery.
“He always told me everything he did as an actor [and] as an artist was for his fans,” revealed Claudio’s most recent Instagram post. “Without your love and support, he would have never reached the heights he did in his career. Acting was his passion as was dancing, singing, drink cola, payday candy bars and cats. He loved his country and his second home of Amsterdam. Thank you all.”
On December 5, Claudio posted his final message with Anthony, accompanied by a photo of the two on their couch. “Greetings from us in Amsterdam. It’s Sinterklaas today in the Netherlands,” he wrote. “We give chocolate letters to each other. I did some work, now home with [the couple’s cat] Max watching UK championships snooker. Tony went to see Wicked 2 with his best mate. Tonight no cooking, going to a restaurant with Hugo, weekend free. Have a warm healthy and safe Friday and weekend.”
