Meghan Markle could reportedly prompt Daytime Emmy Awards organizers to make an unusual change to this year’s broadcast. This is according to celebrity reporter Rob Shuter. The entertainment commentator believes Markle’s nomination could convince producers to televise a category that they have traditionally left off the main broadcast.
Meghan Markle’s Emmy attendance could lead to her category being televised, per expert
Rob Shuter shared his views while appearing alongside columnist Maureen Callahan during a discussion about Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the Emmy nomination for “With Love, Meghan.” During the conversation, Shuter argued award shows are increasingly looking for ways to attract more viewers and improve ratings.
He claimed organizers may be counting on high-profile celebrities like Meghan to draw attention instead of focusing only on the quality of the nominated work. “Award shows are in terrible trouble,” Shuter said, adding that producers were looking for quick ways to attract viewers. He argued that bringing in celebrities with major public profiles could dilute the prestige of the ceremonies rather than strengthen them.
According to Shuter, long-term success for award shows should depend on strong content rather than headline-grabbing appearances. He also expressed confidence that Meghan will attend the ceremony if her schedule allows. “We know she’s going to show up. We know she’s going to walk the red carpet,” he said.
The reporter explained that Meghan’s nomination falls in a category that has historically not been televised during the main Daytime Emmy Awards broadcast. Instead, he said, awards in that category are typically presented before the televised ceremony or during commercial breaks.
However, Shuter predicted that producers could break with tradition this year. “I think they might change the category this year because they’re gonna want her,” he said. He suggested organizers may see Meghan’s appearance as an opportunity to attract more viewers.
During the discussion, host Callahan asked if this was Meghan’s first Daytime Emmy nomination. Shuter confirmed that it was, but said he had mixed feelings about it. He also said he was looking forward to seeing Meghan’s red carpet look. Then, the reporter jokingly added that he was curious to hear her acceptance speech if she won.
