What began as a missing person search for Canadian actor Stewart McLean has taken a heartbreaking turn. Authorities in British Columbia have now confirmed that investigators believe the television actor was the victim of a homicide after uncovering evidence during their search.

The development has shocked fans and colleagues familiar with McLean’s steady presence on television screens over the last decade.

Stewart McLean, 45, was last seen on May 15 at his residence in Lions Bay, a coastal community located between Vancouver and Squamish in British Columbia.

Three days later, on May 18, the Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police received a missing person report after concerns grew about his whereabouts. What initially appeared to be a standard missing persons investigation quickly escalated.

According to a statement from the Squamish RCMP, investigators uncovered evidence that led them to believe McLean had been the victim of homicide.

As a result, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, commonly known as IHIT, officially assumed control of the case on May 20.

“As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Mr. McLean’s activities prior to May 15, 2026,” authorities said in a public statement, Deadline reported.

Police noted that the RCMP continues to work alongside IHIT and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service as the investigation moves forward.

At this stage, few details have been released about what investigators discovered or whether any suspects have been identified. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to come forward.

For television viewers, McLean may be a familiar face even if his name wasn’t immediately recognizable. Sometimes credited as Stew McLean, he built a career as a dependable working actor in film and television productions filmed throughout British Columbia.

His credits include appearances on “Virgin River,” “Arrow,” “Supernatural,” “Travelers,” “Loudermilk,” “Murder in a Small Town,” “Happy Face,” and several television movies. According to IMDb, he had been working steadily since 2015 and was also involved in producing projects.
