Halle Bailey shouts out her ‘village’ for helping raise son as a working single mom
In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, Halle Bailey reflected on how becoming a working single mom to her son, and how it gave her a new level of confidence. She told the outlet, “I think after I had my baby I was like, ‘I’m grown-grown now.’” She added, “He’s made me more sure of myself and confident in my voice,” revealing, “‘Stronger’ is my word for this year.”
Bailey has been private since the start of her pregnancy, and in a tearful 2024 speech at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood honors, she said, “Halo was my gift.” She added, “He is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me or my family to that unyielding spotlight.”
Now, as a single mom following her split from DDG, Bailey admitted, “You don’t do it alone,” telling PEOPLE, “I feel grateful that I have beautiful women in my life that surround me and lift me up and that are my village. It’s a village job.”
Additionally, the actor spoke about the pressure many working mothers feel. She highlighted, “Especially when you’re trying to work on so many different things,” adding, “I feel like women, we can do it all. Like we really can.”
When she gets downtime with Halo, she loves “walks, hikes and just being in nature.” Moreover, Bailey recently brought him to Italy while filming and described finding a waterfall spot outside Rome, saying, “I felt like I was stepping into a fairytale land.” She added, “He loves water. He’s a water baby. We were having so much fun.”
Bailey feels proud of her growth as a working single mom and says she is grateful she has a “village” to help raise her son.
