This time, as he sits down with fellow actors Paul Mescal and Austin Butler for a Vanity Fair video, he shares his love for My Hero Academia. Jordan also explains how anime has influenced him in many ways, to the point that he has even tried to incorporate elements of it into his films.

On Vanity Fair‘s “Guys Hanging Out Watching YouTube” Michael B. Jordan joins fellow actors Paul Mescal and Austin Butler, to each share a video with the other two. He starts off by showing the boys a scene from Season 7 of My Hero Academia. Jordan pulls up the scene where Bakugo seemingly dies in a battle against Shigaraki and the League of Villains. “This is kind of his epic moment of almost self-sacrifice in a way,” the Black Panther actor said, describing the scene.
Butler quickly follows up by asking whether that spoils the entire series for him when he goes to watch it, leading to all three of them laughing. Jordan continues to describe details about the clip playing, further going deeper into Japanese culture and the aspects of anime that influence him the most. “Their themes of friendships, bonds and promises. And being sometimes the odd one out, the one that doesn’t belong, the one that society casts as outcast, is usually the one that is the hero,” Jordan shares. He explains that there is something about these themes that feels deeply empowering and emotional, and that he can personally connect with.
Later, when asked by Butler whether he finds himself taking inspiration for his films from certain anime, Jordan replies, “Oh, big time.” He then revealed, “With Creed III, the first film, the film that I directed… There was a lot of fight moments that I have seen throughout anime, that I was like it would be great if I could actually incorporate or get this feeling of this sequence.”
