New Yorkers are great, but sometimes they have to be loud, pushy, blunt, and mean to get their point across. I mean, they don’t call it the concrete jungle for nothing, and Sai De Silva is no exception. Fans of the Real Housewives of New York City are having a hard time embracing Sai’s, shall we say, dark side, but is she really giving off mean girl energy? The series’ most recent episode showed Jessel Taank trying to make amends with the influencer, only to be severely shut down.
Sai’s Behavior Is Problematic
Bravo viewers, especially RHONY ones, have never been good at biting their tongue when it comes to sharing their opinions about a particular cast member. Viewers have been going in on Sai for her behavior at the uncomfortable and dry lunch.
Sai infuriated followers who felt that the mother of two had been the one who wanted to make Jessel wait. Instead, it was Jessel who showed up fashionably late. And by fashionably, we mean 40 minutes, Jessel, girl, do you own a watch?
Anyway, it seemed as if Sai was growing angrier and angrier by the minute, realizing she would not be making the dramatic entrance she had hoped for. Why didn’t Sai, who was 20 minutes late herself, just leave and plan for a rain check? I get that you’re on a show, but at some point, you can be an adult and remove yourself before the digs start.
RHONY Fans Think Sai Is a Bad Person
While I don’t necessarily believe Sai is evil, some fans are unhappy with the Brooklyn native’s way of handling herself. Viewers flocked to Reddit to complain and dissect the afternoon conversation with one noting, “Sai is a bad person, I’m sorry. When Jessel originally gave her story, Sai kept interrupting her and screaming at her. Then Jessel finally meets with her to open up, and Sai has an issue with that.”
It didn’t help that Sai often acts as if her time is more important than anyone else’s, with another fan joking, “You take Instagram photos for a living like let’s keep it in perspective. Yes, Jessel was late, but it wasn’t intentional, and she did pick a place further from her, so Sai had less of a commute.”
Sadly, it just doesn’t feel that Sai’s personality is resonating with a lot of viewers. It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Jessel seems like a trigger for Sai, but that still isn’t an excuse to be so unkind or unforgiving.
Fans Want a Recast
Why Sai believes that her friends owe her an explanation about how they were raised is beyond me. Her constant barrage of questions felt more like speed dating during wartime instead of a true friendship. When Sai starts to shut down, she is deeply unlikable, with some viewers even expressing they hope she is recast for the next season.
Sai fails to bring any real vulnerability or authenticity to the role but demands that others give it and their firstborn. It just looks like Sai is trying way too hard for the Bravo cameras, and while she may be okay in real life, she is currently coming across as a real a**hole.
Could Sai’s mean-girl behavior stem from some major insecurities? Yes! Sai could be stirring the pot because her life isn’t perfect, so she is trying to deflect onto someone else instead of reflecting. Sai thinks her “I don’t care” attitude will keep her immune to criticism, but all it is doing is showing that she is unwilling to accept a heartfelt apology.
Now, technically, this is exactly what Bravo wants fans to do. To talk positively or negatively about a cast member because, like it or not, we are invested. I’d like to see Sai be a bit nicer. I didn’t think I’d ever be Team Jessel, but here I am, a writer standing in front of a TV asking for Sai to just be cool, not all uncool.
