Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way was filled with family meetings and suspicion. When entering into any relationship, you are agreeing to also interact with your partner’s family. With this cast, it’s especially important because they will need as support as they can get after leaving everything they know behind.
Biniyam Shibre‘s family grills Ariela Weinberg about her commitment to staying in Ethiopia. Deavan Clegg gives Jihoon Lee a shocking ultimatum. Tim seeks forgiveness from Melyza‘s mom. Sumit reaches out to his brother after running out of options. Let’s get straight to the recap!
Ariela, 28 (Princeton, New Jersey) and Biniyam, 29 (Ethiopia)
Ariela’s mom, Janice still has major reservations about leaving her daughter to depend on a man she barely knows. In an effort to get to know him better, she meets with Biniyam’s family. Although his family is very welcoming and open, Janice still has her doubts. It’s apparent the family has just as many questions for Ariela, as Janice has for them. After Biniyam’s American ex-wife left him and took their baby to America, there is still a lot of distrust. I don’t think Biniyam would even trust Ariela to take their child to the U.S. to visit.
Ariela and Janice head to the club that Biniyam dances to watch him perform. Having his pregnant girlfriend and her mom watch him beat on his ex- girlfriend/dance partner ass like a drum, might not have been the best idea. There is no way Ariela isn’t going to get jealous at some point with her man working in a club with this attractive woman. Biniyam admits there were trust issues in his last relationship. Instead of being honest in the past, he often tried to hide things for fear he wouldn’t be believed by his partner. Ariela warns him to never to hide anything from her. Good luck with that! There is no way the green eyed monster isn’t going to make an appearance when Ariela is at home alone at night.
Deavan, 22 (Salt Lake City, Utah) & Jihoon, 29 (South Korea)
Jihoon storms out from one of the tensest dinner’s this season. Deavan is beyond hurt that her husband put himself above, taking care of his family. Jihoon tries to apologize and take accountability, but it may be too little too late. Deavan breaks down and things get heated when Jihoon’s dad takes Deavan’s side, while Jihoon’s mom takes his side. Regardless of Jihoon’s mistakes, his mother isn’t okay with Deavan calling her son a scammer. Mama bear is not here for the dramatics or her daughter-in-law. She becomes so aggravated that she kicks her husband out of her post interview to speak candidly. Jihoon finally admits he didn’t take his marriage seriously because it was long distance. As soon as Deavan hears those words, she has had it. She demands that Jihoon give her $3,000 immediately to prove that he wants her to stay. Jihoon’s mother reluctantly gives him the money, but she questions why Deavan needs to be “bought” by her husband. Sigh! After being scammed out of rent for that apartment in the slums, I would want to be reimbursed by someone as well.
The next morning, Jihoon stops by the hotel to beg Deavan for another chance. After some prodding, she agrees to stay in South Korea for another month, for the sake of their son. But there are definitely some strings attached to this compromise. Jihoon will have to start depositing his money into a joint bank account with his wife, instead of his mother. Considering the way his mother acted at dinner, I’m sure that isn’t going to go over well. Only time will tell if Jihoon will finally grow up and act like a husband and father.
Tim, 34 (Dallas, Texas) and Melyza, 29 (Colombia)
Tim is still on very thin ice, and he knows it. Not only does he have to win over Melyza again, he has to convince her mom as well. These two are difficult to watch. I understand how hurt Melyza was to find out that her boyfriend betrayed her trust, but a year has passed. At this point, I’m not sure if she will ever truly forgive him. It seems like they speak about his indiscretion every single day, which isn’t going to help them to move forward.
Melyza’s mother is welcoming when Tim arrives to her home, but she doesn’t hesitate to insult him at the first opportunity. During dinner, she casually asks why he has gotten so fat. When the dad leaves the room, Tim attempts to apologize, but Melyza’s mother sits stone faced. She lets him know in no uncertain terms that she knows EVERYTHING and no longer trusts him. At this point, I’m not sure if Melyza truly wants to be back with Tim, or just embarrass him on national television. Trust me, I know a betrayal is extremely painful, but this couple just seems stuck in the past. I could dismiss some of Melyza’s coldness as hurt, if it appeared like they had any chemistry.Let’s be honest, they look miserable every time they are together.
Jenny, 60 (Palm Springs, California) & Sumit, 30 (India)
Jenny and Sumit meet with his brother, Amit in hopes of gaining an ally. Despite Amit advocating for their relationship, Sumit’s parents refuse to budge. They believe that Sumit and Jenny will never be accepted into society, due to her age. Fresh out of ideas, Amit suggests that Jenny come meet with his parents to talk about their issues. Sumit is totally against the idea claiming he has already tried that. He also believes that he will be put in a position to have to make a choice between love and his family. Something seems fishy about this. Sumit always made it seem like Jenny talking to his parents wasn’t an option. Yet his brother doesn’t hesitate to invite her to their home. Hopefully Jenny takes Amit up on his offer, so we can get to the bottom of this. I’m sure Jenny wants to eventually come out of hiding with Sumit at some point in their lives.
TELL US – WILL ARIELA BE ABLE TO HANDLE BINIYAM’S JOB? DO YOU BELIEVE MELYZA TRULY WANTS TO BE WITH TIM? IS JIHOON CAPABLE OF CHANGING? DO YOU THINK JENNY WILL GET THE CHANCE TO MEET SUMIT’S PARENTS?
