Do you hear that, dear readers? It’s the sound of damage control! In light of her legal woes and the notion she’s being portrayed in a false light on this season of Dance Moms (let’s pretend it’s a first and she hasn’t seemed like a miserable wretch since the show began airing so many moons ago!), Abby Lee Miller is speaking out against her negative perception.
Are you still reading? I wasn’t sure…I had to step away from my computer for a second to make sure I wasn’t hit by a stray lightning bolt…you know, by association. Well, we’re all still alive, with eyelashes intact, so let’s dish on Abby’s latest antics, shall we?

After all but ditching her team on the latest installment of Lifetime’s hit or miss reality show, Abby is defending her reputation in the press. Too little, too late? Not for Abby! In an interview with In Touch, Abby explains, “I’m to the point now where I respect and listen to my kids. Teaching children is my one true love.”
Let’s dissect Abby’s first sentence, shall we? “I’m at the point now where I respect and listen to my kids.” Translation: “I’ve gotten so much crap for the hatefulness and disrespectful manner in which I speak to the children in my care, that now I’ll tell the media of how important my job is when it comes to rearing these kids in the competitive dance community.” Am I wrong? Am I being too hard on the controversial reality star? I don’t think so, but like this interview, I am open to your interpretations.
When asked how she feels about being labeled a bully when it comes to her dancers, Abby responds, “I don’t think it’s true. I’m a tough coach, but if I’m giving you my time, my energy, my tutelage — you have to give back. You have to make me proud of you,” adding, “I wasn’t put on this earth to make kids feel special. I was put here to make them dance.”
It may seem like I’m contradicting myself, but I agree with Abby’s closing statements…just not with Abby saying them. As a former teacher, I think kids these days feel deserving of praise for simply showing up and doing what is expected of them. No one should get a gold star for doing what they should do…however, in my opinion, Abby is the last person to be touting this line of thought.
