Trigger Warning: This article contains a discussion of domestic violence allegations.
Weeks before her son’s death, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby was interviewed by the police. At the time, they had questions about Robert Cosby Jr.’s alleged domestic abuse.
According to a Salt Lake City Police report, Robert’s then-wife Alexiana Smokoff had reported an incident that happened in May 2024. Though Robert was actually in jail at the time, Alexiana filed the report in November 2025.

Per TMZ, Alexiana told police that Robert “grabbed her by the throat with his hand and strangled her.” In addition, she claimed he spit on her during the incident. However, she also told officers that she lost consciousness and didn’t remember everything. Allegedly, the incident took place at Mary’s home, according to court documents.
Reportedly, the police interviewed Mary on January 9, 2026. Though she admitted that she didn’t witness her son and his wife fight, she had overheard verbal arguments. She wasn’t aware of any physical disagreements.
Mary told police that Robert Jr. wasn’t a violent person, because she didn’t raise him that way. She never noticed any injuries, other than the time her son and another person jumped off a balcony while high.
Following the violent incident, Alexiana filed for divorce. Their divorce became final during Robert’s time in jail.
At the time of his death, Robert faced two domestic violence charges relating to the 2024 incident. Sadly, he passed away on February 23, 2026. He was 23.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is now streaming on Peacock.
